Hot Chip is okay, seems like the electro version of the Pet Shop Boys...?

(don't know much about them I'm afraid)

some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

Hot Chip = boring. Can't even be arsed to watch the youtube on this one.

emil.y, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

JF what was the usmileambient 'screencap' taken from

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

never really got into hot chip but 'one life stand' is a clever title at least

ciderpress, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

I thought "ok this is the point where it properly takes off" and then it stopped.

Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

lol xp

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

I grew to like the Hot Chip album quite a lot in the end but this is by no means my favourite thing on it. Hope I Feel Better places.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

actually Hot Chip reminds me of nothing else than the LCD song we heard earlier...

some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

xp You'd have to ask J0rdan. He made them all. I'm just posting his stuff.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

and the song is okay! but kinda thin sounding for what it is, i can see where the caribou comparison comes in

ciderpress, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

Agree that the Hot Chip album is a bit weak overall, but this and a couple other tracks (Hand Me Down Your Love and Thieves In The Night) are pretty solid.

Moodles, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:57 (fifteen years ago)

so pretty solid gets you in the ILM top 50 these days huh

I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:57 (fifteen years ago)

Can someone please get really, really effusive about this Hot Chip song, please? I want to see.

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:59 (fifteen years ago)

It's a poll of favourite songs, not of how articulate you can be about the songs afaict

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

i'm very much willing to like hot chip, eager even, was a huge fan of the first couple albums, but something about "one life stand" just makes me gag. wretched pap.

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

this 41-60 section has been mostly "getting shit out of the way"

effusive praise is rarely articulate

so pretty solid gets you in the ILM top 50 these days huh

Heh, fair enough.

I actually think your description upthread pretty much nailed what it takes to get in this list:

can imagine it over the end credits of a movie that is only 60% shit

Moodles, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

That is our criterion, right?

Moodles, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

haha what, i thought this was a lock for at least the top 20!

amazing song though, i prefer it to "bad romance"

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:05 (fifteen years ago)

shaking my damn hips

opeth winfrey (donna rouge), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:05 (fifteen years ago)

Not heard the Caribou before, that's really nice. Nicolas Jaar also not bad. Things are picking up after it all went a bit Magic FM for a while.

Rejoice that you weren't eaten (chap), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

would rather be sent off with Alejandro tbh

some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

xpost. In a hurry but… Didn't vote for One Night Stand but voted for Take It In and the album. I like the album because it reminds me of late 80s New Order and Pet Shop Boys, it's got their best songwriting, it's got an emotional warmth they've rarely achieved before, and it jettisons a lot of the stuff that I found forced and annoying about previous releases - only it seems that the forced and annoying stuff was the main reason a lot of people liked them.

I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

Great screengrab, tho

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

i was hoping "take it in" would herald some kind of belgian new beat resurgence but alas

Lady Gaga - Telephone, covered by Pomplamoose

Download this cover on iTunes:

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

the thumping beat at the start of the video is about 789797924445564x better than the song

I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

what is the single best LADY GAGA post in the history of ilm?

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

lj fuck's sake dude, start I Love Prog and kick it over there

bear, bear, bear, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

I love how people come on to this thread just to kick LJ off...

some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:12 (fifteen years ago)

love lady gaga, but telephone should have placed way higher. so great.

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:12 (fifteen years ago)

"Telephone" is OK. It will be interesting to see if, in 2011, Gaga can maintain the mosty upward curve in the quality of her singles.

None of the ten things I voted for appear in 41-60. However, if I'd had more than 20 minutes on an unfamiliar computer to complete and submit the ballot - and ##11-25 on my tracks ballot had gone in as planned - then "Mean" would have gone up one place and "Roman's Revenge" a massive 13 places.

Jeff W, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:13 (fifteen years ago)

some comments i wrote on freaktrig when this came up in their poll:

# Tom † on 7 January 2011

(Actually I don’t think the club is a metaphor. But the song isn’t about the problem of her guy calling her, it’s about the problem of her relationship with the guy breaking down and how she’d rather be out partying instead.)

# Lex † on 7 January 2011

I think the relationship is the metaphor! It’s tapping into the trope of the club as historical site of escapism and liberation and adapting it to a world in which we’re meant to be connected to everything all the time – our Blackberrys continually buzzing, phones always going off, the stress and malaise of technological ubiquity and the expectation of constant communication. Possessive boyfriends are part of that, but it is this Brave New Digital World that is really the possessive boyfriend here.

And the club is somewhere where you shouldn’t have to be subject to this – it’s the place where you dance all night, become wholly human again. It partly rings true because so many clubs have shitty reception.

# Pete † on 7 January 2011

Or doesn’t ring at all cos of the shitty reception.

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:13 (fifteen years ago)

I can't remember if I'm one of "Telephone"'s voters or not. I love it, but she and all her singles have become so ubiquitous (for which I'm grateful) that it seems like they've all been around for a decade...when really it's only been a very short amount of time.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:13 (fifteen years ago)

these are all pretty good but overall i liked yesterday's run a lot more. makes me wonder what great tracks didn't make the cut ;_;
