taylor swift isn't pure thomas kinkade in retrospect, fleet foxes are
no. fleet foxes are whatever the indie-parent version of thomas kinkade is (i wouldn't know). that taylor track just IS kinkade, nothing but kinkade. she is painter of light.

― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:34 (fifteen years ago)
Probably not a good idea to peep this video on a work computer.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:35 (fifteen years ago)
Oh yeah, I voted for this, sexist video tropes and all.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:35 (fifteen years ago)
lol @ this getting votes purely on the video
― challopian youtubes (deej), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:35 (fifteen years ago)
Love that song, but that's the least intriguing screencap of the video.
― Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:35 (fifteen years ago)
on shitty mobile broadband now so can't really listen to youtubes but really want to hear that nico jaar. i voted for 'back to decemeber' - my favourite song from the album. still holding out hope that the remix of that drake song that i voted for places.
― whitney from mtv's the city (tpp), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:35 (fifteen years ago)
Only heard the whole album once, though, so he missed my albums ballot.
xpost to self, I guess
― emil.y, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:36 (fifteen years ago)
you're right contendo, just that fleet foxes are quite a good fit too :)
bombay is quite banging, has amazing if derivative video, officially not misogynist, cool stuff
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:36 (fifteen years ago)
I didn't factor the video into my vote, but I also probably wouldn't have heard the song if not for the thread on the video.
― Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:36 (fifteen years ago)
officially not misogynist
What, because your girlfriend says so? HAHAHAHAHA
― emil.y, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:37 (fifteen years ago)
nice caribou! reminds me of arthur russel a bit. beautiful vocals and rhythms, love the waka-waka guitar. one of my favorite things so far. nice surprise, too, as i'd been indifferent to previous snaiths.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:37 (fifteen years ago)
This is one of the tracks I voted for because it stood out on a so-so album (see also: Gil-Scott Heron).
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:38 (fifteen years ago)
I found Caribou completely uninteresting until Swim.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:37 (17 seconds ago)
was being flippant and conciliatory, obv some of the tropes are a bit dicey and objectifying but w/e
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:38 (fifteen years ago)
it's a surrealist fuckabout and for that I am grateful

yeah that post was a bit flip but im sure the video is responsible for a lot of the attention this track received ... i was kinda into this before the video but only cuz i thought his first lp was promising & this was one of the only good traxx on the follow up -- i definitely saw no one talk abt it til the video popped up tho
which is cool its a solid song
― challopian youtubes (deej), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:40 (fifteen years ago)
guincho track's a nice lite jam, and the video is pleasantly sexist. not my very favorite thing (caribou! minaj! fives!), but cool.

jokes
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:44 (fifteen years ago)
thing about the guincho video is that it's the editing as much as the imagery that elevates the song. snaps along and emphasizes the movement of the beat quite nicely.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:45 (fifteen years ago)
oh my fucking god that el guincho track is dreadful
and the video is just one big eye-roll all the way through
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:45 (fifteen years ago)
el guincho is some person masquerading as an mp3 producer
― nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:45 (fifteen years ago)
"Novias" is a better song on the El Guincho album, maybe I should have nominated it.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:45 (fifteen years ago)
it's so...pallid and boring and uninvolving and LAZY
also terribly produced and sung but that goes without saying for these pitchfolk
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:46 (fifteen years ago)
kinda feel that emil.y didn't register my 'yadda yadda we've done this before lol, am chill now despite etc' tone in that first post :/
the song without the video isn't much tbf but it's nice enough, forgettable
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:46 (fifteen years ago)
can't look at that video at work
― Dan S, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:47 (fifteen years ago)
boring screencap on that one I agree. Not really feeling the song... my love for el guincho faded a long time ago... I'm one of the few who don't think the video is sexist but not crazy in love with it either. Better not discuss the video in here, there's a whole thread about it.
― Moka, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:47 (fifteen years ago)
can't get over that caribou track, though. god, it's great.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:48 (fifteen years ago)
you'll be drumming that break on your desk all daaaaay
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:48 (fifteen years ago)
caribou vox sound like erlend oyeel guincho - like the vid and song
― bnw, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:50 (fifteen years ago)
I love El Guincho. His stuff is always pretty laid back but it certainly isn't lazy. Would level that at someone like Caribou a million times more.

― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:50 (fifteen years ago)
yeah the Caribou song + video was awesome...Caribou video better than El Guincho
― some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:50 (fifteen years ago)
i love that el guincho screencap
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:50 (fifteen years ago)
oh god i'm so over hot chip. their album this year was thoroughly weak.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:51 (fifteen years ago)
Wasn't even aware Hot Chip had released an album this year.
― Moka, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:51 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, it's far from their best work. I like a few songs on it, though (including this one).
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)
Kind of a consistent vibe going with the last few tracks. Don't like this half as much as Caribou though.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)
Hot Chip is okay, seems like the electro version of the Pet Shop Boys...?
(don't know much about them I'm afraid)
― some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)
Hot Chip = boring. Can't even be arsed to watch the youtube on this one.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)
Cut from my long list but will always rep for this.
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)
synth steel drums. ffs.
chorus is quite catchy but the sound is just so milquetoast
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:53 (fifteen years ago)
JF what was the usmileambient 'screencap' taken from
― nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:54 (fifteen years ago)
never really got into hot chip but 'one life stand' is a clever title at least
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:54 (fifteen years ago)
I thought "ok this is the point where it properly takes off" and then it stopped.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:54 (fifteen years ago)
lol xp
I grew to like the Hot Chip album quite a lot in the end but this is by no means my favourite thing on it. Hope I Feel Better places.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 19:55 (fifteen years ago)
actually Hot Chip reminds me of nothing else than the LCD song we heard earlier...
