Gotcha. Definitely less "there" than the Ke$sha.

I'll bet that Taio Cruz song is fun to pogo to...
I love it when corporations put out lofi tracks

i don't even care for "dynamite" or anything but i'm kind of glad it placed now out of pure shadefreude for the historically awful 400 previous posts or so
all pop from here on out please

Are there really that many people on this song like it says on the youtube?

i guess we can wait for the albums countdown for ppl to really lost their shit
There are a few nice sounds in the Gayngs track but my problem with a lot of this stuff (including Games) is that they're paying tribute to a lot of the '80s ethos that I hate, so even though they're playing with it/subverting it, it still just reminds me of stuff I abhor.
― emil.y, Tuesday, January 25, 2011 12:20 PM (10 minutes ago) Bookmark
this is the flip side of lex's post -- it agrees to his terms on the record & just has opposite values. both of u are wrong tho .... 'subverting it'??
would love for lex to tell me what contemporary R&B sounds like this gayngs song. ive said this elsewhere but imo the gayngs album is pretty w/e, but this song is awesome
― challopian youtubes (deej), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)
Every single from the Kanye album (and the album itself) is too long and overstays its welcome imo.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)
is this kanye song on the *ALBUM*?
― some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)
Kanye West ft. John Legend, The-Dream, Ryan Leslie, Tony Williams, Charlie Wilson, Elly Jackson, Alicia Keys, Fergie, Kid Cudi, Rihanna & Elton John
^^and of all those, you can only actually hear kanye, rihanna and...fergie ferg!!
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)
Made it 2 minutes into Kanye track. New record for me.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)
this song kind of bores you right out of the gate...
I'm amazed this didn't win P&J though
― some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:38 (fifteen years ago)
that taio cruz gives me a headache. slots in with lady antebellum, that taylor track and ke$ha as music with undeniable pop appeal, but no discernable character. like a clip-art version of the guetta/BEP sound. do not want.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:39 (fifteen years ago)
love the kanye track because DRRRRRRUUUUUUUMMMMMMSSS

alright na i'll give it another listen...

also it's only 5 minutes long, dudes
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:40 (fifteen years ago)
even fergie ferg can't save that song :(
― teledyldonix, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:40 (fifteen years ago)
it feels like 5 hrs
I voted that song number one. Why do you people not like it? I think it's great!!!
― kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:41 (fifteen years ago)
are you guys really complaining that you can't hear all those guests or are you just being like LOL Kanye? because I don't think an audible Elton John cameo would really push this song to the next level
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:42 (fifteen years ago)
do like MBDTF, though i refused to vote for it in albums. "all of the lights" does nothing for me.

I was just genuinely surprised at the huge lists of guests. I expected the track to be, like, 12 minutes long.xp
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:43 (fifteen years ago)
xp kornrulez - Why do you like it? (serious question)
I thought Kanye was supposed to be some larger-than-life entertaining character but this is just forgettable radio pop.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:43 (fifteen years ago)
wtf ppl can listen to 10 minutes of justin bieber slowed down drone & cant deal w/ a 5 min pop song?

arghh radio pop on a singles list
― fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:44 (fifteen years ago)
Ariel Pink is #1 on my "artists you should like a lot more than you actually do" list. He ticks just outside of all my boxes.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:44 (fifteen years ago)
liking the Ariel Pink song, though it does sound like a male version of Best Coast...

I said "forgettable radio pop".
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:45 (fifteen years ago)
this song gets the production horribly wrong which is a shame because organ when done well is a brilliant sound. sadly this is more cliff richard than blonde on blonde.
so nearly good, but not :(
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:45 (fifteen years ago)
being "lol kanye", i definitely agree that if every one of those guests was audible, particularly elly jackson, the song would be even worse. nah it's more like lol kanye, you made a big deal about getting all those names on your record, flying them out to hawaii, the roster implies its own importance, and for all that the musical effect is exactly the same as if he'd just got rihanna and fergie on a track. except that doesn't look half as impressive to critics!
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:45 (fifteen years ago)
Ariel Pink goes a lot of different directions, though, where Bethany has on blinders. xps
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:46 (fifteen years ago)
love that ariel pink song
― challopian youtubes (deej), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:47 (fifteen years ago)
lex otm^
the punchiness of BLBS sounds great after all of the indie & mainstream excess of that last few entries. A dollop of Cliff Richard is fine by me!
― some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:47 (fifteen years ago)
From Lex's rant I'd expected Gayngs to sound a lot more like, say, the Dirty Projectors but this is just like really bland trip-hop with some soft rock leanings. Do not want.
The Beach House album got pretty boring pretty quickly but Zebra is sublime, wish they could have kept up that level of quality over an album. Otherwise, this is a pretty dire stretch we're in.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:47 (fifteen years ago)
so nice of ariel pink to counter indie excess
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:47 (fifteen years ago)
gave that ariel pink song 5/10 when i reviewed it. i remember it had one nice surf guitar line and was otherwise entirely forgettable. not as bad as gayngs tho.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 18:48 (fifteen years ago)
yeah this is much better than most of the other stuff recently, but it isn't as breezy and summery as it wants to be, and in the end isn't my thing either. just a bit dull.

this kind of thing is total quiet storm radio fodder & i could see it fitting in pretty easily on V103 here. but then theyve always played, like, loggins & messina too so

i prefer "round and round" and "can't hear my eyes" to this ariel pink tune, but dut dig the elpee in general.
but shit, cat, how much of this was there this year? indie bands reviewing smoothed-out 80s pop sounds through a gauzy (but pointedly not "lo fi") filter, i mean. there was gayngs, ariel p, twin shadow... who else?
