Voted for this. The standout track on the album I think. Just lovely.

Wanted to vote 'take care' or 'walk in the park' instead of 'Zebra' but weren't nominated iirc. Still happy to see it around.

my other music-nerd friend has listened to Beach House, but I have yet to hear any yet...

I learned to love Teen Dream during snowmaggedon 2010, stuck in my apartment while we got 2 feet of snow in 1 day. Seeing them play live kind of ruined it--they are a glorified drum circle--but if you can separate the people from the studio product then it's still a great listen.

Same. I did rather like the 7" version of "Used to Be," but they sucked all the life out of it when it was re-recorded for the album.

re: "need you now" - i am maybe more simpatico with pop-country than i realize because there is nothing in that song that really puts me off or that codes as "cheese" to me? as it is though i only ever end up listening to a small handful of country songs every year

Forgot to vote for 'Zebra', but remembered to vote for 'Need You Now'. Glad to see both of them place. Things they have in common: they both capture their respective creators' aesthetic so well that they pretty much obviate the need for the rest of the albums that they are on.

Beach House is pretty but not very interesting.

thing is, big hooks aren't all that hard to come by. corny indie records you wouldn't blow your nose on even got em, sometimes. so does that kanye record you couldn't spare a kind word for. it's not the hook (which is great), it's how it's delivered that kills the song for me.

btw what is with 'country' being a genre with a bit of slide guitar and a whole load of glossy big-studio sheen? i am no conservative but isn't country something else?

The bit that sounds like "Anything You Want" is annoying in the way it recalls a catchier song and I get distracted every time.
