i like this a lot better than anything I'd heard on the first Burial album, actually (except maybe 'Night Bus')

I agree with davek - this is all about the vocals. The rest is a bit by-the-numbers.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:43 (fifteen years ago)
ogmor, who's that?
yeah that's very true, the piano chords go nowhere, ditto the beat, but the vox fx are cool

what are the best tracks to hear nicki rapping? not trading verses w celebrities, not singing, not working around shitty will.i.am hooks or whatever, just straight hard spitting.
itty bitty piggy, beam me up scotty, keys under palm trees, did it on em, higher than a kite, grindin', blow ya mind, muny, catch me.
best guest verses = kanye west "monster", trey songz "bottoms up", mya "ponytail", ricky blaze "feel free", gyptian "hold yuh", cassie "fuck u silly", diddy/dirty money "hello good morning", lil wayne/beyoncé "sweet dreams", robin thicke "shakin it 4 daddy", gucci mane "shopaholic"
a couple of those are still to come, i predict

― ogmor, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:44 (fifteen years ago)
oh yeah and nicki's own "massive attack" for the rapping and lloyd's "take it off" as another superb guest spot
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:45 (fifteen years ago)
xp - right, should have guessed.

― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:46 (fifteen years ago)
This must get in on some kind of technicality? xp
yeah, i thought this was from last year? i put "our kind of love" in my year-end list this year
― opeth winfrey (donna rouge), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
year year year year year
whoa was not expecting lady antebellum - i guess i think of it as wholly 2009. it's an amazing song though.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
fucksake they created another taylor swift
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
the deadboy thing is like "maybes" 2010 but i maybe liked maybes more
― plax (ico), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
I mean, it's not from the very end of 2009...it goes back a ways.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
haha j/k but this ain't my thing
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:48 (fifteen years ago)
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh this is horrible. Puke puke puke.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:48 (fifteen years ago)
Come back Taylor, all is forgiven.
it crossed over to pop radio in february/march 2010 though, so i guess that's why ppl voted for it (including me)
beautiful song
― teledyldonix, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:49 (fifteen years ago)
It would be better if it wasn't a duet.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:49 (fifteen years ago)
I am sure if I could listen to it objectively I would maybe not hate it, but it is now and probably will forever be "that one song they play at work ALLLLL THE TIME w/ the awful guitar solo at the end"
― vienn?tta (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
Oh God, there's a guitar solo coming?
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
if you like "need you now", you should check out sunny sweeney's "from a table away", which i doubt will place (but might next year, lol)
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
also, 'lady antebellum' - christ
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
Sorry 11 people, I don't get it.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:51 (fifteen years ago)
Come to think of it, the more you listen to the Drake, the more the pacing starts to make sense...it's meant to be kind of startling in its subtlety.
No feeling Antebellum at all. What a reaction from the followers here..
― Davek (davek_00), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:51 (fifteen years ago)
Guitar solo = very George Harrison-ish
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:52 (fifteen years ago)
not really feeling this one as much, sorry
Taylor Swift is much better...
― some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:52 (fifteen years ago)
fwiw it was only after the jukebox reviews of "need you now" - http://www.thesinglesjukebox.com/?p=1640 - that i actually had my curiosity piqued. idk, even if you don't like it surely you can hear the MASSIVE HOOK? and duh it's sentimental - i think it's heartbreaking, actually; they really bring that situation to life.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:53 (fifteen years ago)
I'm sad to say that I've felt that way about a lot of the tracks so far. Starting to suspect that my ears are broken or I've drunk too much of the corny indie koolaid.
― Moodles, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:54 (fifteen years ago)
there's also a tim f thread on lady antebellum somewhere - maybe this song made his countdown last year?
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:54 (fifteen years ago)
can see why lady antebellum song would be a hit, but it ain't my thing. guy is fucking awful. and is she ripping off alan parsons project's "eye in the sky" just a little on the chorus? if the song was half as evocative as that, i'd like it. but it isn't. a turd.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:54 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, this sounds to me like the kind of song that will still be in (some sectors of) the public consciousness in 25 years' time. That hook is massive.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:54 (fifteen years ago)
I find it overproduced and mawkish. But it does sound like a "hit song" fwiw.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)
"need you now" is sublime when it actually is 1am and you're a little drunk
― opeth winfrey (donna rouge), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)
i just need you now to turn this song off
― vienn?tta (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, I was ready to hate this song during the country cheese verse buildup but that chorus is fantastic.

― skip, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

Every Beach House CD should have Julee Cruise - Falling Into The Night put in as an intentional factory error.

Voted for this. The standout track on the album I think. Just lovely.
