and, yeah, homophobia in his second.

I don't know how anyone can just toss this off....the lyrical content is a dealbreaker for me.
― skip, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:25 (fifteen years ago)
There *are* full versions on Youtube, split into parts. The last 10 minutes, from the middle-eight onward, are the best bit

Re-listening to this...it is crazy gorgeous.
― Davek (davek_00), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:25 (fifteen years ago)
barring a TNP interjection, that will be my highest vote to place :)
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:26 (fifteen years ago)
So is this any better than any other track slowed down this much?
― Moodles, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:26 (fifteen years ago)
So wait is it literally just the original turned into an ambient track by slowing it down to a ridiculous degree?
Yes. It's kind of generic (there are 50,000 Youtubes of slowed-down pop tracks now) but it wins by being lovely and extremely listenable.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:27 (fifteen years ago)
It's better than Gimme Pizza Slow anyway.
― Moodles, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:26 (23 seconds ago)
you should know about cutting your losses; you conscionably voted for that LCD Soundsystem song
btw everyone should listen to that sped-up Tik Tok I posted upthread
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:28 (fifteen years ago)
Really don't know what that's supposed to mean...
― Moodles, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:29 (fifteen years ago)
I mean there's a point at which one says 'ok fine, this is my favourite' and sometimes that point falls quite quickly :P
just giving ya shit, it's nothin' rly, live and let dreampop
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:30 (fifteen years ago)
the sped up tik tok is amazing
this particular slowed down track is mostly good because of the fact that it's justin bieber so people who usually dismiss him on principle could enjoy the irony that his song secretly sounds somewhat listenable and i guess credible (to them)
― teledyldonix, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:32 (fifteen years ago)
finally something I voted for placed!
― Dan S, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:32 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, I wasn't really complaining about ambient Justin Bieber, just asking a pretty basic question.
xxpost
― Moodles, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:33 (fifteen years ago)
i guess having listened to dancehall and hip-hop for over a decade inures one to this slightly. and blah blah blah they're "in character" or whatever. i will say that my one quibble, conceptually, with "roman's revenge" is that it's a slightly wasted opportunity for nicki, already in character as her gay male alter ego, to take apart eminem for using those words. but then i don't think he'd have agreed to be on the track just to be eviscerated (directly - she does it indirectly by outperforming him so comprehensively) (which ties into what matt was saying re: wanting to see her take down male MCs - she hasn't GONE AT THEM as such, but she's murdered the three biggest (not best) male rappers in the world on record this year)
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:33 (fifteen years ago)
this is stronger as a gesture than as a track. i'm a little disappointed it's a real song and not just a lamp joke or something.
― ogmor, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:33 (fifteen years ago)
I hadn't listened to this in a few months, by MY GOD I CAN SEE STARS

no, but it is beautiful and was lolworthy & viral (due to bieber), so became emblematic of the fad
paul simon's only living boy in new york is another nice one
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:34 (fifteen years ago)
This was my theory at first but then I found myself listening to it over and over again. It has a strange oceanic beauty.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:34 (fifteen years ago)
Damn! kind of regret not voting for the Justin Bieber and Nicky Minaj songs, would have loved to see them place higher.
I am deeply dissapointed by Ke$ha voters, specially when everything before her went from great to acceptable.
Great countdown so far btw and love the jpgs. Where did you find such good screen grabs? Almost every streaming site I watch has terrible quality.
― Moka, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:35 (fifteen years ago)
this was my theory too. idk, i was gonna listen to it but as soon as i saw it was half an hour long i just couldn't be bothered.

xp - But yeah, this being elevated above all other slowed-down tracks is probably because it's Bieber.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:36 (fifteen years ago)
looks like another slo-mo track beat it :P

Bieber is a great choice. Didn't cross my mind. I quite like slowed down Simpsons theme - again, a joke in theory but strange and gorgeous in practice.

so happy this one placed, too

This is another one of Tim F's bountiful riches, right?
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:38 (fifteen years ago)
the first time i played that i had it on repeat and didn't realize it for like 40 minutes.

haha so amazing that deadboy placed (didn't vote for it though - i love it but a touch confused as to why this one, specifically, caught on? i way prefer his creep/romy xx and jamie woon remixes - also his own artful dodger sampling "if u want me") (though not complaining!)
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:39 (fifteen years ago)
what are the best tracks to hear nicki rapping? not trading verses w celebrities, not singing, not working around shitty will.i.am hooks or whatever, just straight hard spitting.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:39 (fifteen years ago)
Sure the Bieber it's not much more than a novelty but it does sound very ecstatic and gives a whole new meaning to the song. It's also not an easy feat mind you, I started playing with the program and very rarely did you get such inspired results to be honest.
― Moka, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:39 (fifteen years ago)
Hmm...I'd rather listen to Burial, I think.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:40 (fifteen years ago)
Wish the Drake re-edit had a brisker beat, but the vocal manipulation is def swoon-worthy.
― Davek (davek_00), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 17:40 (fifteen years ago)

fortunately, he usually picks good'uns, if not always entirely my thing
this is ok if a bit dubsteppp

I agree with davek - this is all about the vocals. The rest is a bit by-the-numbers.

ogmor, who's that?
yeah that's very true, the piano chords go nowhere, ditto the beat, but the vox fx are cool

itty bitty piggy, beam me up scotty, keys under palm trees, did it on em, higher than a kite, grindin', blow ya mind, muny, catch me.
best guest verses = kanye west "monster", trey songz "bottoms up", mya "ponytail", ricky blaze "feel free", gyptian "hold yuh", cassie "fuck u silly", diddy/dirty money "hello good morning", lil wayne/beyoncé "sweet dreams", robin thicke "shakin it 4 daddy", gucci mane "shopaholic"
a couple of those are still to come, i predict
