we can at least agree that it's a very chillwavey video
tru

Voted for Swans. Discoveries - Diddy, Vampire Weekend, Javiera Mena.
― EZ Snappin, Monday, 24 January 2011 19:38 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, she doesn't do it in ingles.

― challopian youtubes (deej), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:39 (fifteen years ago)
Voted for the Crystal Castles and The Knife (both atypical for their albums). Azari/Tensnake remix missed my ballot. Enjoyed the The Fives a lot.
Tomorrow in a Year is largely a reticent electroacoustic/contemporary composition album with few highlights, but it suited a walk across the Vieux Carre in a warm rainstorm well when it came out. "Colouring of Pigeons" reminds me a lot of the Laurie Anderson album Mister Heartbreak.

at one time I probably could have translated the phrase 'hasta la verdad' for deej, but somehow the brain rot has become irreversible
― This just in: Drugs A. Money still crzay (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:40 (fifteen years ago)
I think the production on "Hasta La Verdad", especially around the choruses, is very Jellybean-era Madonna.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 January 2011 19:41 (fifteen years ago)
Yes, it is.
I was just trying to get you to fill in why the song's being in Spanish is an impediment to your appreciation of it.

its never til these threads that i realize theres like a half of ilx that i never interact w/ on threads & seem to operate entirely outside of the threads i read -- those just discovering the fives, diddy, etc

this is pretty cool actually -- sounds like something off 'italians do it better'
otm, although I think I may be liking this even more than the IDIB tracks I've heard, definitely a winner.

― This just in: Drugs A. Money still crzay (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:44 (fifteen years ago)
loving strawberry skies! one of my favorite things on the list so far, which maybe just says i grew up in the 80s. johnny fever OTM about the jellybean-madonna production, though a little diffuse and hazy (chillwave giveaway).
speaking of the persistence of the 80s, i wish i liked the swans track but don't. never been a fan, tbh.
nothing i voted for has placed yet.

i'm with deej - obv this is entirely me, not the song, but the language barrier almost always stops me loving foreign-language pop (that i don't understand, anyway - i can usually get the broad thrust of it in french, and for some reason with spanish rap it doesn't matter).

so glad The Fives made it to the top 77, having nominated them and placed them as my #3 and all
and Games generally are considered chillwave, I had another track of theirs in my ballot -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bjdMPlZaDo

alright that other Games track, "Everything is Working" sounds very chillwave to me
― This just in: Drugs A. Money still crzay (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:49 (fifteen years ago)
johnny fever OTM about the jellybean-madonna production, though a little diffuse and hazy (chillwave giveaway)
I was talking about Javiera Mena, but I guess it applies a little to Games too.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 January 2011 19:50 (fifteen years ago)
might have voted for, had i been keeping up:
AZARI & III "Reckless (With Your Love) (Tensnake remix)"MARINA & THE DIAMONDS "Shampain"THE FIVES ft. VANYA TAYLOR "It's What You Do (Hottest By Far)"THE KNIFE "Colouring of Pigeons"FOUR TET "Love Cry"GAMES "Strawberry Skies"
games is probably the only shoe-in. maybe the fives? rest are more iffy, have to let em settle in first.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:51 (fifteen years ago)
ilxor I'm wondering how many of those p&j 61-77 is going to be in the ILX top 20...thinking Taio Cruz, MIA, maybe The-Dream
― This just in: Drugs A. Money still crzay (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)
to paraphrase a classic quote out of context anyone who isnt voting 'lemme smang it' in their theoretical new lists is lying to themselves & to god

jeez, i'd say it applies way more to that games track. it's all blurred and half erased, in the style, but would otherwise slot in fine on 80s MTV, between lucky star and smalltown boy or something
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:54 (fifteen years ago)
xp MIA will be nowhere near the Trax top 10. Possibly /\/\/\Y/\ has a decent chance in albums..
― Davek (davek_00), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:54 (fifteen years ago)
the language barrier almost always stops me loving foreign-language pop
Depends on the language for me. I listen to a ton of Swedish and French music that I don't understand at all, and some Espanol stuff in lesser numbers. If the songs are good, though, I don't care if I can't properly sing along.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 January 2011 19:55 (fifteen years ago)
I am still baffled by 'Lemme Smang It' but I'm sure it will grow on me eventually. About to check out the stuff I haven't heard.
― Alex in Montreal, Monday, 24 January 2011 19:55 (fifteen years ago)
I think maybe I put Taylor Swift's "Mean" as my #1? can't remember, dashed off a ballot on the run last week. I thought at first that "Mean" would be a country smash since on the album it's the most trad country-ish song but I wonder if its triumphant foreshadowing of big city life is gonna fly with country radio programmers.

― markers, Monday, 24 January 2011 19:56 (fifteen years ago)
and Games generally are considered chillwave
more because people prefer to define chillwave by the nebulous 80s aesthetic rather than specific sounds or musical aspects tho i think. also it depends on the track (but never gonna win that argument).
― idgi fridays (blueski), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:58 (fifteen years ago)
xxp Yeah, "Mean" kind of has a bluegrass feel, doesn't it.
― Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:59 (fifteen years ago)
^i'd agree with that...think the Games song V79 posted is much more chillwave-sounding (& better)
xp: blueski
