yes, same reason people sometimes upload music videos with all the frames mirrored horizontally

― Mordy, Monday, 24 January 2011 17:20 (fifteen years ago)
So is the speeded up or slowed down or whatever it is is done to avoid copyright or is this how it's supposed to sound?
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:21 (fifteen years ago)
a track with a pic like that is either going to be amazing or complete shite and unfortunately it's the latter.
― skip, Monday, 24 January 2011 17:21 (fifteen years ago)
music video is pretty h0t
― Mordy, Monday, 24 January 2011 17:22 (fifteen years ago)
i kinda feel uncomfortable watching this at work
Oh look it's an uncoordinated 'Thriller' tribute.
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:22 (fifteen years ago)
lol
― teledyldonix, Monday, 24 January 2011 17:22 (fifteen years ago)
mean's kind of great (first time i've ever heard anything by taylor swift) and horrible in equal measure. i mean, the voice and tune and arrangement and musicianship and even the bulk of the lyrics are excellent, can totally see why it'd be a huge hit. and then there's the word "mean," which seems to deflate and flatten everything the song is trying to say, worse yet the cringeworthy "mean and pathetic and a liar and alone in life" part that everybody's rightly complaining about.
that said, the lifeless word "mean" and that sneering and would-be-crushing bridge are the most explicitly teenage things about the song, so they read as canny in a way, reinforcing her persona, perhaps making her more relatable to the young women who'd like to be saying something similar, i dunno. i appreciate it, but could never see myself listening to such a thing for pleasure (never say never...)
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:22 (fifteen years ago)
i've only heard "hollywood" and "i am not a robot" by marina but based on those she brings me out in hives. does she do the moronic quirkygirl enunciation on "shampain" too?
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:23 (fifteen years ago)
Hmm, Marina. Didn't like her at all at first, but she was loads of fun to interview and I ended up warming to "Shampain" in particular.
(But not enough to vote for it, though; "Celestica" is the only one of mine to place thus far. Another act that I changed my mind on in 2010, and absolutely totally fucking AWESOME when I saw live. The records cannot prepare you.)
― mike t-diva, Monday, 24 January 2011 17:23 (fifteen years ago)
"I am not a robot" is many times better than "Shampain" imo.
― Can your monkey do the Bot? (seandalai), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:24 (fifteen years ago)
I'm fuckin with this Marina thing
― alpaca bowl (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:24 (fifteen years ago)
It's like Florence And The Machine jamming with the Pussycat Dolls.
― alpaca bowl (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:25 (fifteen years ago)
They're pretty big in the UK having sprung up in the Florence & The Machine slipstream but I find Marina & The Diamonds pretty much unbearable, it just reminds me of second generation Britpop glammed up a bit.
Crystal Castles strike me as one of those bands who will one day put out an amazing album only to find out the world has stopped caring.

― Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 January 2011 17:25 (fifteen years ago)
haw, well, i gave "i am not a robot" a 1/10 on the jukebox. perhaps best if i don't bother with "shampain" because the idea of a song that's many times worse than "robot" is giving me the fear.
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:25 (fifteen years ago)
this is where I confess to have voted for Shampain, right
w/e it hits me ya knowwww

shampain is decent to kinda good
― teledyldonix, Monday, 24 January 2011 17:26 (fifteen years ago)
fyi marina & the diamonds is a solo project. the "diamonds" refer to her fans. yeah i know. afaik this was her stage name from the beginning, ie before she had any fucking fans to speak of bar her a&r men.
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:26 (fifteen years ago)
disagree with u contenderizer re: Taylor Swift; 'mean' can connote both 'asshole' and 'small' or 'petty...

Awesome song (Marina)

didn't give it many points but it's fun and I like the keys and I'm about to listen to that Crystal Castles song, bet it's rubbbbbbish :D
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:27 (fifteen years ago)
Bravo, Whiney.
I've been fucking with this song for over two years, ever since the demo popped up on her Myspace in 2008.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 January 2011 17:27 (fifteen years ago)
This is the country that brought us Queen
i sincerely apologise. god i fucking loathe queen. even more than marina.

Crystal Castles is pretty good LJ
― This just in: Drugs A. Money still crzay (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:27 (fifteen years ago)
"Shampain" is fun, but I can't say that I love it, and Taylor Swift is a pretty painful listen for me. Can't say I'm in a place in my life where teen country sensations really have much relevance.
― Moodles, Monday, 24 January 2011 17:27 (fifteen years ago)
I've remembered which Crystal Castles song it is now, that one's really good actually.

yeah "Rude Boy" better be waaaay higher now
― trv kvnt (some dude), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:31 (fifteen years ago)
kinda surprised anyone cared about "what's my name?" enough to vote for it. the original is...catchy but kind of boring, and dragged waaaaay down by fucking drake. however! these two remixes are BRILLIANT:
rihanna ft. vybz kartel - what's my name? (federation sound remix)rihanna - what's my name? (brenmar club remix)
both drakeless, hurrah.
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:31 (fifteen years ago)
champain is balanced somewhere between hilarious and turrible. kind of love it, in spite of the sense that my sensibilities are being somehow offended. i guess ersatz abbadonna is always gonna be OK w me.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Monday, 24 January 2011 17:31 (fifteen years ago)
Manages to overcome Drake doing maths and still be terrific.
