'giving up the gun' is not an imperative like 'ass on the floor' fyi xxxxp
― *gets the power* (deej), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:42 (fifteen years ago)
Show me where I said it was.
― emil.y, Monday, 24 January 2011 16:43 (fifteen years ago)
vampire money "gun on the floor"
― Mordy, Monday, 24 January 2011 16:43 (fifteen years ago)
Give your ass up and put the gun on the floor.

― *gets the power* (deej), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:43 (fifteen years ago)
lol. song is kinda boring and i'm not a vampire weekend h8r
― teledyldonix, Monday, 24 January 2011 16:44 (fifteen years ago)
I think Lil Jon is in that video also iirc
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:44 (fifteen years ago)
"giving up the gun" is an amazing song, i'm surprised it didn't place higher tbh
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:44 (fifteen years ago)
joe jonas is also in the video & jake gyllenhal
it's pretty imo, but nothing dasein-shattering (lol)
― Mordy, Monday, 24 January 2011 16:44 (fifteen years ago)
i actually hadn't thought swizz had fallen off, but looking at his discography he really hasn't done much i'm into since like 07 - "ass on the floor", "roman's revenge", mariah's "o.o.c.", that's about it.

Uh, those tracks are phenomenal. Not to mention "I Can Transform You," "Swing Ya Rag," the "Power" remix, "Tambourine," "Lil Jon's "I Do", a bunch more.
― alpaca bowl (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:45 (fifteen years ago)
good song. don't love it, but a fine way to kick things off. like the beat a lot more than the vocal hook. ass-floory, but maybe not ass-floory enough?
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:45 (fifteen years ago)
o shit, and vampire wkned. turns out they are bad.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:46 (fifteen years ago)
It would be cool if we could make a listeningroom to stream all these as they're posting
― Mordy, Monday, 24 January 2011 16:46 (fifteen years ago)
i like a lot of those swizz beatz as beatz, tho not necessarily as songs ("i can transform ya" being #1 there)
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:47 (fifteen years ago)
xp - yeah the beat is the only thing I particularly dig in AotF.
Mordy - I thought about doing this but realised I have about 5 of the top 77 tracks as mp3.

― Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 January 2011 16:47 (fifteen years ago)
But feel free to take over the ILXOR listening room as a communal project I guess
recent swizz i like are in the same vein as 'ass on the floor' i.e. 'its alive'
― *gets the power* (deej), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:48 (fifteen years ago)
I voted for both of those. 77 was a good call.

― just sayin, Monday, 24 January 2011 16:50 (fifteen years ago)
i don't think this has applied yet, but for the record
a tie was broken by number of votes/first place votes -- more votes or more first place votes meant the higher spot
that said we did end up w/ i believe 2 ties in tracks
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:50 (fifteen years ago)
2 ties in albums too, fwiw
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 January 2011 16:51 (fifteen years ago)
yeahhhh. i think that's been overrated just cuz of the "lol c&c music factory sample" BUT it's still a fantastic song to hear at house parties at 6am, exactly what you need at times like that
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:51 (fifteen years ago)
Specifically: ties are broken first by # of votes, after that by # of first place votes.

i only like one of these songs, and even then, i forgot it even existed (swing ya rag).
vw is nice but follows my 'everyone vampire weekend has ever done sounds kinda sweet when listening, and then i'll forget it ever exists straight after'
― supply 'n d-man (a hoy hoy), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:51 (fifteen years ago)
i feel like we should spin off some kind of dedicated Swizz thread but i don't know what shape it should take -- singles poll, search & destroy, POX?

whiney has a particular preference for boshing abrasive swizz tracks that remind him of old school 80s stark bangers fyi
― *gets the power* (deej), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)
vw song is boring (for them), but now I think Rostam might be awesome
― This just in: Drugs A. Money still crzay (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)
I love the barefaced cheek of putting out a remix in 2010 that features both Coldcut/Eric B & Rakim drums AND the riff from Everybody Dance Now for good measure. Never heard it in a club but the first time it was played in one people must have lost their shit.
― Matt DC, Monday, 24 January 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)
The original is still better though.

After hearing #75, I don't ever want to ever hear anyone on ILX making fun of PM Dawn again
dunno whether i'm more surprised that whiney hadn't heard azari & iii or at the batty pm dawn comparison
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:55 (fifteen years ago)
didn't realize there was a C&C MF sample, but <3<3 the 1991 house beat that Tensnake added to this track.

― alpaca bowl (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
I didn't care for VW debut or that Horchata song but Giving Up the Gun is surprisingly good. Hmm. Might have been an error to not listen to Contra.
Diddy song the best so far. I have never been able to say that in any context before.
Azari & III original > remix by huge margin.
