3. These New Puritans – White Chords (Stalker Remix)

^^ this band is great but they've been going for 3-4 years now, amirite? not sure how they'd fit in w/ "gravewave" or watever this shit is

ilxor, Friday, 21 January 2011 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

how did "gravewave" leapfrog "haunted house" as the next silly microgenre title?

"haunted house" makes sense, people!

bigdawg (crüt), Friday, 21 January 2011 21:56 (fifteen years ago)

srsly trying to ride the coattails of These New Puritans to the palace of non-suck

amphetamine enhanced scholar (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 21 January 2011 22:01 (fifteen years ago)

also, after wading through reams of horrible misogyny, I found out the answer was "marmalade"

amphetamine enhanced scholar (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 21 January 2011 22:03 (fifteen years ago)

Ew, it's one of those pay to download crappy things. Or at least I couldn't get it to download.

Possession of Stolen Goods (pharoah slanders) (u s steel), Friday, 21 January 2011 22:35 (fifteen years ago)

The Jokers of the Scene remix of Asia by Salem was one of my favourite tracks of last year and I think Gatekeeper are amazing.

That said, most of these tracks are pretty dire. Cult Of Youth, for example, sound like mid-period New Model Army. Utterly without merit.

Bonnie Tyler The Creator (Doran), Saturday, 22 January 2011 00:10 (fifteen years ago)

soft metals are completely awesome, the rest of this music can fuck off imo

whole lotta cocorosie (electricsound), Saturday, 22 January 2011 00:12 (fifteen years ago)

More into gravy wave tbh. Chicken Stock Aitken and Waterman, stuff like that.

seminal fuiud (NickB), Saturday, 22 January 2011 00:17 (fifteen years ago)

gatekeeper are ace

max, Saturday, 22 January 2011 17:01 (fifteen years ago)

Anything worth listening out of these?

soft metals
memory tapes (probably not that remix though)
like some stuff by Jokers of the Scene (new Shit Robot rmx of them is good)

uh yeah that's about it

dmr, Saturday, 22 January 2011 19:16 (fifteen years ago)

This is so stupid, how is there any connection at all between most of these artists

I mean you could draw a pretty solid TriangleWave line between five or six of these bands but otherwise this is basically a useless comp

We are literally forcing shit into genres now, there's not even an attempt to make anything concrete

That said, Blessure Grave are awesome (as are Gatekeeper)

The Dutch of Dukes, Saturday, 22 January 2011 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

downloaded gatekeeper from emusic today. THANKS TO YOU, GRAVEWAVE COMP.

Didn't Ben Is Dead magazine, via I Hate Brenda newsletter, invent grave wave by name in the early 90s, via the Rump CD?

"Brenda Brenda B-B-B-B-Brenda"

Sock Puppet Pizza Delivers To The Forest (Sock Puppet Queso Con Concentrate), Sunday, 23 January 2011 04:01 (fifteen years ago)

I was calling this giallo disco....

my opinionation (Hamildan), Sunday, 23 January 2011 13:32 (fifteen years ago)

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 23 January 2011 14:56 (fifteen years ago)

still laughing at the fact there is a witch house/grave wave band called Nowa Huta

V79, Sunday, 23 January 2011 15:10 (fifteen years ago)

seminal fuiud (NickB), Sunday, 23 January 2011 23:10 (fifteen years ago)

There's actually a lot of really interesting bands in the Witch-house scene when you dig around past Salem and oOoOO. Have any of you heard the Creep mix on FACT? Really great spooky sounds on both sides of the pond!

sub rosarie, Sunday, 23 January 2011 23:59 (fifteen years ago)

Can't say I've heard many people mention grave-wave before now!

sub rosarie, Sunday, 23 January 2011 23:59 (fifteen years ago)

Ah this is a classic "made up by 90s NME staffer in lunch hour"-style fake genre. It's always nice to see there are people who can be bothered to corral a load of bands no one cares about together purely for the sake of it. These New Puritans being the structurally necessary band that people actually listen to.

Matt DC, Monday, 24 January 2011 00:04 (fifteen years ago)

^otm

Kerr with all respect you are kind of a mark when it comes to this thing - anyone who is invested in music culture enough to make up a damn genre name and try and tell people about it is probably also gonna know how much it winds ppl up, and to a large degree be doing exactly that

nothing tastes as good as zingy feels (DJ Mencap), Monday, 24 January 2011 00:21 (fifteen years ago)

new wave of new grave

http://i56.tinypic.com/xnsu1g.gif (max arrrrrgh), Monday, 24 January 2011 01:06 (fifteen years ago)

one year passes...

have you guys heard dj tripmode squad? it's screwed and chopped chillwave.

the late great, Saturday, 4 August 2012 09:41 (thirteen years ago)

you know like trapp snarrres over square wave bass

the late great, Saturday, 4 August 2012 09:41 (thirteen years ago)

Anyone heard the new Gatekeeper?

Kind of aghast, honestly. It sounds like a cross between 90s Planetary Assault System tracks and the Propellerheads.

Josiah Alan, Saturday, 4 August 2012 10:21 (thirteen years ago)

Maybe with a little Front Line Assembly thrown in, its frickin weird.

Josiah Alan, Saturday, 4 August 2012 10:38 (thirteen years ago)

I was scared off after reading a few reviews, that said it was neither an accomplished or enjoyable listen.

my opinionation (Hamildan), Saturday, 4 August 2012 21:20 (thirteen years ago)

beats chewed & shopped
