OK, so I've immersed myself in OFWGKTA this weekend and I have concluded that the only truly great MC is Earl, and Tyler is only good for cameos and making beats. A lot of these 'posse cuts' are weak and this crew is too young to have their own Theodore Unit(s).

The Earl album is a front to back banger - a great (if short) 'album' in the tradition of Ready To Die and 36 Chamberz. I'll go to bat for that. The rest varies too much in quality. Also, the 'rape' stuff is out of hand.

bastard has an overarching framework that makes it hang together as an album whereas earl is barely a record, 'just' 25 mins of dope loose tracks

seems to me that mellowhype & domo have their charms

man tyler is such a great rapper. i feel like he's improved? my faves are his verses are on blackenedwhite (when i saw wolfgang you say fuck that/room full of wolves inhalers & used blunt raps) also looove his verse on fuck the police. definitely two of my favourites verses of the year. i like the character stuff & wolf haley interplay plus such dense rhymes spit so mean yet so nonchalant & graceful (houston we have a ni**er down and the ni**er that did it loves them gun sounds/bust triple six rounds now thats six cops found on that ground)

rap is a young man's game but it's rarely as young as 16. And it's hardly ever made by teenagers who come fully formed with such a defined aesthetic. Like, all I'm saying is, I'm not ready to dismiss Taco because I'm not 100% sure we've been shown what Taco can really do yet.

I'm not 'barging' - I've been active on the Earl thread. This one too, I think, upthread, but who can keep track, really.

I came here because I've been listening to thsi so much I think it's soundtracking my dreams right now. Sorry you disagree with my assessment and it's made you butt-hurt and territorial. If anything, I'm just going on record, because, like a lot of you, my first exposure to this I was all "OMG best shit ever, love of hip hop officially restored" and now I'm just sort of taking the time to take it all in and listen more critically.
