There's an unexpected piece in this week's EW about why Robyn can't seem to crossover in the US. In short, too many people who sound like her are crowding the market. Now Pink's trying to cop her look too, I guess.

much as i don't like pink i'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say that was just a coincidence and that the photo just happens to look unusually robyn-esque. i mean, the two don't look that different to begin with and pink has always gone for the androgynous thing.

one of my old friends talked to me the other day and he lol'd about how she (robyn) is going to open for katy perry's tour.

god someone find my long post from last year about how exasperated I am with the "{female pop singer x} is stealing {female pop singer y}'s look!}" conspiracy theories.

btw one of the reasons Robyn isn't a huge star in America is she looks mannish even compared to Pink

pink looks more like herself than robyn in that picture

xp and also because while robyn's material may be stylistically pop in every respect, from the hooks to the production, her vocals are much more diffident and detached than most.

if robyn was popular would she have this much critical attention?

why not? her most successful singles are usually the ones that get the most critical attn

what is it that critics like about her, that makes her stand out, that doesnt resonate w/ the general public?

idk why the public doesn't like her tbh and i don't really care that much. in 2007 america didn't like her b/c she looked like a dude but i guess ppl would be more receptive to that now.

I dunno if anyone else here will like this besides me, but it's the new song by Dash & Will who I've been tracking since 2008 (their first batch of singles was really good, and the album wasn't too spotty). This is the first new music since, and they're reportedly working on the second record for later this year.
