Terius "The-Dream" Nash Solo Albums + Major Writing/Production Credits (Electrik Red, Mariah Carey, Ciara)

my order of Dream albums is LvM, LH, then LK.

really close between the first two but LVM starts hard, builds to a fever pitch, then cools out...feel like you takes you through the largest gambit of emotions. Love/Hate's not too far behind, just think the highs are slightly lesser.

i always had an idea to poll dream + los vs dream + tricky

los has all the best joints on l/h
i'd give tricky the nod on lvm
lk is all terius pretty much tho so w/e

ha i've had this idea too but thought i'd get some eyerolls, anyway yeah it's los for me by quite a bit. even though dream does most of LK by himself i feel like the standouts for me (like "FILA" in particular) are him basically doing a los impression so

and plus los has "turnt out" and "yamaha" too iirc

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 00:58 (thirteen years ago) link

ok this is just to get the tricky/los division straight in my own mind (i've never been as bothered about it as you guys) -

tricky - i luv your girl, nikki, she needs my love, falsetto, ditch that, mama, rockin' that shit, sweat it out, take u home 2 my mama, love vs money, love vs money pt 2, fancy, right side of my brain, mr yeah, hit it on the road, panties to the side
los - shawty is da shit, fast car, playin' in her hair, purple kisses, luv songs, livin' a lie, walkin' on the moon, my love, put it down, love king, yamaha, nikki pt 2, abyss, turnt out, veteran, priceless

that kind of surprises me, lots of songs i think of as going together were produced with different people. draw for L/H, tricky wins LvM, los wins LK (duh)

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah I wonder how meaningful the distinction really is when, like, tricky produced "rockin' that thing" and los produced "abyss".

Tim F, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:11 (thirteen years ago) link

"rockin that shit" is los

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:22 (thirteen years ago) link

i thought about this, but didn't terius just do production on this, mostly? I was going for stuff where he also handled a fair chunk of the songwriting

In the Wikipedia entry (yeah I know) they don't give the writing credits so I would assume he wrote most/all of it. But then again I don't know Nivea's songwriting prowess. I think it should be included, but I guess you can consider it his Dream Street of his canon. Best to leave it alone if it is not up to par with the others.

Most of my favorite Dream songs both for himself and others are with Tricky.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:30 (thirteen years ago) link

tricky overwhelms los with his comparatively immense body of work w/ dreamer but los has a better batting average

^^this

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 02:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Not sure I agree with that. I don't think there are any Los tracks that I like quite as much as my favorite Tricky stuff.

"panties" underrated imo; why does everyone dislike it so much??

Has there been any news of the Dream lately? like I heard that he definitively stated that he won't write another solo album.... but maybe he's changed his mind? was that a publicity stunt ala Jay Z?

Also, my friend and I were discussing this earlier: If Dream were to tour to your town, what would be the most amount of cash you would give for a ticket?

I would pay $100 to see him. My buddy revealed less dedication (or greater financial responsibility?) with $60.

Has anyone here actually seen him live?

Captain Ahab, Thursday, 20 January 2011 00:53 (thirteen years ago) link

came pretty close back in winter 09 maybe, never seen him live, no

don't really care to tbh

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 01:09 (thirteen years ago) link

seen him perform on tv and it was pretty garbage

some dude, Thursday, 20 January 2011 01:15 (thirteen years ago) link

dont know why anyone would expect him to have a great live show

*gets the power* (deej), Thursday, 20 January 2011 01:32 (thirteen years ago) link

because people whose full-time career is music, who have the time, $$$, star power and creativity to put on a good live show with appropriate planning/practice, should be expected to do so?

oh forgot dream had "star power" lol

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 01:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Clearly anyone who would expect The-Dream to have a good live show has never seen one of his videos

I would rather watch the animatronics at Chuck E Cheese and play skeeball.

? thought you were a love king guy

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Sunday, 23 January 2011 02:01 (thirteen years ago) link

my ranking looks something like--

Love King = Love Vs Money >>> Love/Hate = Basic Instinct = How to Be a Lady >>>>> Memoirs

sorry lex

first two are interchangeable for #1 depending on day/mood/etc.

― ilxor, Monday, January 17, 2011 10:25 PM (5 days ago)

i've played love king a ton this year but i prob played love vs money twice as much in 2009 and would admittedly choose it at gunpoint so

ilxor, Sunday, 23 January 2011 02:15 (thirteen years ago) link

jaymc are you getting this?

*gets the power* (deej), Sunday, 23 January 2011 02:29 (thirteen years ago) link

lvm def more respectable than lk

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Sunday, 23 January 2011 03:07 (thirteen years ago) link

Voted Love vs Money but was real close to picking Memoirs for fear it's getting shut out.

strike curious poses, Sunday, 23 January 2011 11:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Love/Hate beats Love King solely on the fact that "Fast Car" = the Little Red Corvette of the 00s

I love "Fast Car" partly because of how much it reminds me of "Little Red Corvette" but it's ridiculous to equate it with "Little Red Corvette"

it's ridiculous to equate it with Little Red Corvette in terms of impact for sure, given Prince's pop stature versus The-Dream's very moderate levels of success, but in this case I was strictly speaking sonically.
