the admittedly small and probably unrepresentative amount of stuff i've heard that i'm basing my opinion of Wiz on: Say Yeah, Black & Yellow, the Diddy feature, Super High and Bottoms Up remixes, This Plane

i dont hear 'uncomfortable on the mic' on 'say yeah' or 'black and yellow' -- if anything, he makes sure his lyrics are way straightforward so its impossible to sound anything but comfortable. he doesn't really stretch out or try tricky rhythms or rhymes, just goes for being as comprehensible as possible

i mean, i guess if you have some kind of pavlovian thing w/ the tone of his voice theres nothing really to argue about here tho

i can hear the stiff thing -- his rapping is def very measured & stilted, but that doesn't really bother me at all

the way i see it, most rappers worth listening to either have a really natural or appealing vocal tone and just sound good on records in an effortless way, and if they don't they work hard enough at technique and lyrics to make up for it, and imo wiz has neither.

i guess for me that feels too restrictive, or gives working 'hard enough at technique' too much credit. his personality comes thru effectively & i think hes totally competent from a technical standpoint, its just that he doesnt have much to say that feels like a real limitation. w/in his narrow band, i think hes got some great songs tho.

he's competent, sure, just not more than that imo. what is his personality? rapper guy who likes to smoke weed? does he have a sense of humor?

having watched how high yesterday i am p certain that smoking weed and having a sense of humour are in no way connected

Wiz is more like the coolest dude ever, all the chicks dig him, I bet he does that stupid laugh in every song to please em. Chicks totally dig that...I don´t think that´s for the dudes right

yeah characterizing him as affable funny dude/stoner type like seth rogen or something isn't really right -- he's definitely more of a "all the women wanna be with him and all the men wanna be him" type which is an archetype that i would think is more aligned w/ being a huge pop star than some afroman type persona

yeah i'd be willing to accept him as the bret michaels of rap

yah im not sure where we started thinking he was a cut-up or something, hes def a cool guy who chicks are into.

the personality that comes thru in his rapping is basically that? like i said its a narrow band but it feels honest & uh lived in.

wale could use that kind of focus

wale is definitely the gnarly sorta dude who doesn't seem believable in that role

wale definitely comes across more smug and more into shit that's harder to relate to than chilling and getting high but i don't know if he lacks some kind of focus wiz has. i only brought up humor because wiz seems so unserious and lighthearted buti've never heard him even attempt to say something funny.

i think the difference b/w the two is one has talents more geared towards pop stardom than the other does

i don't have a great urge to hear either rap

i don't even understand that. i'm not saying Wiz sucks because he sounds like Wale, I'm saying they both suck in similar ways in addition to sounding alike.

also Ja's whole image and sound was cultivated in X's shadow and the comparison was as much about that as about voices or delivery, that's not the basis of comparison at all here

the media and their fanbases haven't set up any comparison between between them before based on their careers or images or subject matter, don't know why i can't introduce on based on something as arbitrary and insubstantial as the actual sound of their voices
