No, it's because it's Mariah that it's dumb, and I mean that in a purely taxonomical sense, not critical.

I should've said Glitter and her greatest hits disc. Maybe my problem with most Mariah albums is that there are non-singles on them. (Totally disagree with Rich on the notion that this disc is front-to-back a collection of jiffy-pop singles.)

i'm not totally inclined to agree with that either but i get his point -- i think he was responding to a lot of reviews calling the album too "formulaic"

you know how sometimes ppl latch onto one observation about a new release? that's it

Surmounter, Thursday, 17 April 2008 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

Would it help if I said I like E=MC2 less than I did upon first listen?

Eric H., Thursday, 17 April 2008 21:23 (eighteen years ago)

did you like MIMI?

Surmounter, Thursday, 17 April 2008 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

Not particularly. I'm really mostly a fan of the three-album stretch from Butterfly through Glitter.

Eric H., Friday, 18 April 2008 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

crazy boy.

Surmounter, Friday, 18 April 2008 03:01 (eighteen years ago)

this has been in my head ALL DAY:

Eric H., Friday, 18 April 2008 04:33 (eighteen years ago)

i like 'glitter' better than 'showgirls.'

Mike McGooney-gal, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:06 (eighteen years ago)

omg

i need to see glitter

Surmounter, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

The WBT rewrites are settling quite well with me.. Esp. Love Story, thanks for nothin and i stay in love. They did feel like lazy filler in the beginning but after a while they just kinda developed their own personality.. Weird.

Christyles, Saturday, 19 April 2008 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

i agree, they're growing. but for me the downfall happens when i start comparing this to Mimi, which was just stacked with catchy, clean songwriting, and didn't really have any unnecessary sappy stuff, which i feel is where Last Kiss falters. For me it's really that track that doesn't work.

Surmounter, Saturday, 19 April 2008 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

Kells remix is fire as usual

Preview of the Matrix 12, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:15 (eighteen years ago)

AYY IT'S THE REMIX KILLAAA

Preview of the Matrix 12, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

Amazingly, this album is even better than Mimi. Early candidate for album of the year.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:18 (eighteen years ago)

OK, let's talk tracks.

These are the amazing tracks off E=MC2:
Migrate
Touch My Body
Cruise Control
Side Effects
I'm That Chick
I'll Be Lovin You Long Time
Thanx For Nothin
O.O.C.
For The Record

9 amazing tracks on one album is enough for me. i'll decide on the rest lata

Surmounter, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

also, style-wise, we've never seen the likes of: Side Effects, or I'm That Chick

from mariah.

am i right?

Surmounter, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

"I"m That Chick" is my favorite. While it's not different for Stargate (they've replaced harp with celeste hooks) it is for her.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

you're nuttier than I was on the Erykah Badu thread.

Eric H., Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

(x-post obv)

Eric H., Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

dude it's been out for a week. this is still now. =P i need to get me some erykah.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

Heh, I'm pretty sure I bumped the Erykah thread at least three or four times to more or less say "I'd go str8 for badu," et al.

Eric H., Wednesday, 23 April 2008 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

Just an fyi: we have a 48-hour exclusive for Mariah's next video @ comcast.net/music/mariahcarey/. It should be up Saturday @ midnight.

fukasaku tollbooth, Thursday, 24 April 2008 11:11 (eighteen years ago)

Surmounter, Thursday, 24 April 2008 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

That tinkly goop known as "Bye Bye" is the single?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

*new single

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i'm not sure why that's happening

Surmounter, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

That Mariah keeps me coming back to a song with a piano line as repulsive as that of "I Stay in Love" is a true testament to her talents.

My favorite moment on this album is definitely the last ten-or-so seconds of "I'm That Chick". It's nothing short of orgasmic when she belts out those last lines: "I'm like that uptown haze them real thugs blaze..." Makes me crack up every time.

If I were to rank the songs on this album it would look something like this:

I'm That Chick
Thanx for Nothin'
For the Record
Lovin' You Long Time
Cruise Control
Touch My Body
Migrate
Love Story
O.O.C.
I Stay in Love
Last Kiss
Side Effects
Bye Bye
I Wish You Well

yeah i could never

"We Belong Together" 1

understand why they would make a piano-driven ballad

"Don't Forget About Us" 1

with mariah belting at the end of it a single

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 April 2008 23:23 (eighteen years ago)

maybe you guys know why?

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 April 2008 23:23 (eighteen years ago)

it sounds more like like "Don't Forget About Us.'

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 24 April 2008 23:26 (eighteen years ago)

Except with hilarious lyrics about grandmothers.

lou, Friday, 25 April 2008 01:34 (eighteen years ago)

look, it's totally different! the SONGWRITING is just not as good.

we belong together is one of those songs, it happens once in a lifetime. yup.

Surmounter, Friday, 25 April 2008 04:17 (eighteen years ago)

don't get me wrong, piano can never be used enough. in the right wayyyyy

Surmounter, Friday, 25 April 2008 04:17 (eighteen years ago)

SO many ways to use the piano.

Surmounter, Friday, 25 April 2008 04:18 (eighteen years ago)

you don't say.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 25 April 2008 05:35 (eighteen years ago)

lou you're so right about that last part of "I'm That Chick"

very classic

Surmounter, Sunday, 27 April 2008 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

and i'm getting really into I Wish You Well.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

one of those "it didn't hit me hard enough the first time" songs

Surmounter, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

I'm really enjoying this album, first Mariah album that I've ever wanted to listen to more than once...also at the beginning of "Migrate" she sounds like this

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

omg no she didn't

Surmounter, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have wed, Latina magazine reports.

The two got hitched in a small ceremony on an island Wednesday, according to the magazine. They quote a source as saying it was "very implusive."

Rapper Da Brat attended, the magazine says.
