not being american this is hard for me to gauge: what is the relative popularity of gucci vs waka? when i was in the states last waka was on the radio all the time and i heard 'wasted' once or twice.

gucci is still much more popular than waka from what i can tell - waka is really sticking around though i wouldn't have seen that coming 4 months ago

Gucci has decent-sized fame, but he's like Michael Jackson-meets-Lady Gaga in Chicago

waka's the bigger star now, def not true a year ago. 'no hands' is a bigger hit than lemonade iirc. id say gucci's fanbase is a bit more like large devoted cult though. the buzz around gucci died down a bit this year after lemonade

i mean - rap fans know both, but gucci's been around longer and obv has a much larger body of work. i don't think minivan driving moms know either

what whiney means is that outside of the new york bubble, so-called 'regional rap' continues to outsell 'more deserving' fabolous mixtapes

i dont think thats rlly about putting people on to gucci or something, thats more about 'hey guys we're friends again' type synergy. ppl who pay attention to waka tapes also check gucci tapes. the diff in audience is at the crossover urban pop radio level

yeah ok. weird to think waka could potentially be a more successful crossover artist but really nowadays who knows

And yeah, Gucci probably has a stronger fanbase, but "No Hands" is a bigger hit than Gucci has had.

i like 'no hands' a lot but wonder if a lot of the crossover appeal is the hook etc and not waka

waka's appeal is more straightforward at some level but also prob more one dimensional / less enduring in the long run

xpYeah, Waka's not really a huge presence on it, compared to Roscoe, but it's certainly building on the buzz and momentum had from "O Let's Do It"/"Hard in the Paint" more than Whale or Roscoe Dash's burgeoning careers.

the appeal has sold an estimated 100,000 copies as of the week ending October 24, 2010

both those figs are 2+ months old and from pretty shortly after they were released, don't really tell us any more than the first week figures
