basically just a 2/47 freak out (sic), Thursday, 13 January 2011 04:31 (fifteen years ago)

pretty sure the guy from dubtribe sound system wrote happy house.

jed_, Thursday, 13 January 2011 08:35 (fifteen years ago)

I was about to say. Personally I'll give songwriting credit for happy house to whoever did the stereo panning.

Jedmond, Thursday, 13 January 2011 09:51 (fifteen years ago)

^^ YES why did ppl not go nuts for this?!?!?

just sayin, Thursday, 24 February 2011 18:15 (fifteen years ago)

i mean! come on

just sayin, Thursday, 24 February 2011 18:15 (fifteen years ago)

kinda feel like you let me down on this one ilx

just sayin, Thursday, 24 February 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

I'm nuts for it!

THAT HAT STAYS ON!!!

Gukbe, Friday, 25 February 2011 05:33 (fifteen years ago)

you know

just sayin, Friday, 25 February 2011 08:29 (fifteen years ago)

we were talking about it upthread, i went a bit nuts too iirc. there was also talk of the justine and the victorian punks single, which was less familiar to me than the love of life orchestra stuff... also exciting

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Friday, 25 February 2011 19:23 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i saw a few mentions of it, but not that many! there shld be more

just sayin, Friday, 25 February 2011 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

boy trouble

plax (ico), Sunday, 27 February 2011 02:21 (fifteen years ago)

^ i think i prefer "full grown man" and "what i've lost" on the b-side, but those songs are two years old and the new single is good stuff still. didn't know that visionquest included lee curtiss & seth troxler

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Sunday, 27 February 2011 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

yah but neither of those songs have lines abt painting the town red w/ blood

plax (ico), Sunday, 27 February 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

What psych said - "boy trouble" is good but not as strong as the b-sides or "midnight people" or "walk and talk".

Tim F, Sunday, 27 February 2011 21:09 (fifteen years ago)

i like this

just sayin, Monday, 28 February 2011 21:54 (fifteen years ago)

^^

haydens gonna hade (electricsound), Monday, 28 February 2011 21:54 (fifteen years ago)

applicable to both peter gordon and benoit & sergio

haydens gonna hade (electricsound), Monday, 28 February 2011 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

so yeah, that Peter Gordon 12" was one of my favorite releases of the year. not surprised it didn't make a dent in the year end lists/assessments though...

skip, Monday, 28 February 2011 22:41 (fifteen years ago)

it's a 80s rerelease innit

a nan, a bal, an anal ― (abanana), Monday, 28 February 2011 23:51 (fifteen years ago)

playing the shit out of benoit and sergio like they are literally all i want to listen to right now

plax (ico), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 00:40 (fifteen years ago)

Loving the LOLO album. The bit on the don't don't reprise at about a minute where the bass cuts out and the singers hold those notes over the kickdrum is wonderful. Like Leonin&Perotin were itching for 4x4. Drum programming on That Hat is amazing too, such a great record.

ogmor, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

not really feeling this. different for them. a bit chillwavy or something. limited to 500

some velveeta morning (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 22:00 (fifteen years ago)

Why did they stop putting out "Death from Abroad" stuff? I loved some of those releases.

She Got the Shakes, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 22:22 (fifteen years ago)

good question!

some velveeta morning (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 22:38 (fifteen years ago)

a) james too busy w/ lcd as he keeps complaining b) money-losing probably

blud money (sic), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 23:30 (fifteen years ago)

the death from abroad stuff was all released on other labels that they just repackaged for the us right? seems like a potentially problematic business model

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Thursday, 3 March 2011 00:12 (fifteen years ago)

Don't Don't Reprise is utterly sublime. One of the best things I heard in 2010, for sure (perhaps the best 12" I bought, even?)

EDB, Thursday, 3 March 2011 03:51 (fifteen years ago)

yeah definitely (if i'd heard it in 2010)

just sayin, Thursday, 3 March 2011 07:36 (fifteen years ago)

is there any other peter gordon related stuff thats worth checking out? wikipedia tells me he worked on the desperate housewives sdtrk

just sayin, Thursday, 3 March 2011 13:44 (fifteen years ago)

star jaws is kinda interesting, reminds me a little of out of the blue by blue gene tyranny. plus has an awesome cover

mizzell, Thursday, 3 March 2011 15:08 (fifteen years ago)

geneva & extended niceties is pretty cool, though i always liked the bonus tracks the best ("beginning of the heartbreak/don't don't", "extended niceties" and "don't don't reprise", all of which wound up on the dfa comp). the rest of the album is strong though, "young girls" in particular has a very similar saxophone sound to "heartbreak", and "cry like a baby, sing like a dog" has a nice soft rock guitar lead. it's mostly instrumental iirc

haven't heard the album but brooklyn sounds rad based on this...

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Thursday, 3 March 2011 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

^ reminds me a lot of material, which i guess is obvious since they both kinda scream EARLY 80S NEW YORK ART SCENE

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Thursday, 3 March 2011 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

brooklyn sounds so glamorous and fun! and 80s!

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Friday, 4 March 2011 22:24 (fifteen years ago)

That first PTR record is so mindblowingly brilliant that anyone who ever sees it anywhere should really just get it.

o0o00h really? (boxedjoy), Saturday, 5 March 2011 16:57 (fifteen years ago)

The Holy Ghost album has leaked. Yay!

Number None, Monday, 7 March 2011 02:25 (fifteen years ago)
