that was a bit of a "real talk" vote - i was as dismissive as anyone when it came out (not so much disappointed cuz i expected how watered down it'd be - or seem, anyway) - i'm just not going to front on how much i came back to a lot of that album, esp with the bonus tracks, and how GREAT it is when it's good

i mean sure the rah digga album, say, is "better", but at the same time there's nothing on it that's clocking up the last.fm scrobbles a tenth as much as the best stuff on pink friday

well it was just a cursory listen, to some of detroit state of mind 4, so u cld be right. i think i'd confused him with someone else in my head and was expecting something diff

na'tee is incredible but that mixtape is an old school definition of a mixtape, im not sure she even really reinvents any songs on it -- shes just a great rapper

i dunno what whiney's point is, but in terms of editorial direction, no one cares what teh source has to say no

but like do dudes still rap about being the "next 5 mics" and shit is what i'm asking

well maybe, but only as a metaphor for "give me my credit" or w/e -- rappers don't actually care about the source/critics & there are really no influential rap critics right now

critics now are more influential in creating/forming a narrative or pushing an unknown artist -- i.e. noz w/ lil b or xxl w/ their freshman stuff -- but no critic/publication can affect an actual album/mixtape

aaaanyway, this is all i guess corny and about as far from goon approved jams as possible, but i dunno, i ended up liking it a lot

saw DJ Premier nominate Ice Cube's "I am the West". I'd heard similar good comments on it, even though nobody said it was like amazing or anything.

after first listen, I'm bored to tears. dude just likes to throw up half-assed quick little verses and then run annoying choruses into the ground now.

i really enjoyed it the first listen and then... never felt inclined to listen to it ever again.
