guyz i cant really stand e-40's voice either

gr8080, Saturday, 8 January 2011 12:45 (fifteen years ago)

Don't really want to post my ballot because I forgot two of my favourite releases (The Pack Is Back & Incarcerated would have knocked RAWSE off and I'd look cooler.)

'Lito was my #1. Burn One has to be the best DJ/Producer in the game atm, everything he does is gold. And Starlito is surprisingly tight writer for such a laid back voice. The pair together just *click* and Ren. Gangster is sublime.

I like this list. I find the Waka exhausting and cannot listen to it in 1 go but I totally love like half of it, at least.

2010 seems like a proper turning point creatively. The rise of creative+control type vids, dudes paying more attention to artwork, trying to have direction in their music such as limiting how many producers they'll have on a record to keep the sound on point. New gen got vision. Heres to it continuing in that direction.

opinion -- is the major event rap album over, or just in a standing-eight count?

mavisbeacon666 (San Te), Saturday, 8 January 2011 16:44 (fifteen years ago)

that was a question i think actually

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Saturday, 8 January 2011 16:54 (fifteen years ago)

It seems that there are just different categories of "event albums" now-- the major label hit event (Kanye, Drake, Carter IV), the cross-generational comeback event (Cuban Linx 2, Big Boi, Detox) and now the event mixtape (Kush & OJ.)

President Keyes, Saturday, 8 January 2011 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

mavisbeacon666 (San Te), Saturday, 8 January 2011 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

is lex the only one to vote for pink friday?

that was a bit of a "real talk" vote - i was as dismissive as anyone when it came out (not so much disappointed cuz i expected how watered down it'd be - or seem, anyway) - i'm just not going to front on how much i came back to a lot of that album, esp with the bonus tracks, and how GREAT it is when it's good

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Saturday, 8 January 2011 20:04 (fifteen years ago)

i mean sure the rah digga album, say, is "better", but at the same time there's nothing on it that's clocking up the last.fm scrobbles a tenth as much as the best stuff on pink friday

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Saturday, 8 January 2011 20:05 (fifteen years ago)

sisilafami, Saturday, 8 January 2011 21:22 (fifteen years ago)

Whiney G. Weingarten, Saturday, 8 January 2011 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

well it was just a cursory listen, to some of detroit state of mind 4, so u cld be right. i think i'd confused him with someone else in my head and was expecting something diff

zvookster, Saturday, 8 January 2011 21:27 (fifteen years ago)

na'tee is incredible but that mixtape is an old school definition of a mixtape, im not sure she even really reinvents any songs on it -- shes just a great rapper
looking forward to new shit from her tho
