I sometimes feel like the Pop/Punk and Pop/Rock period of 2006-2009 went way too fast.

i'm pretty much pro the idea of most famous-for-being-famous socialites releasing music. their existence is kind of ridiculous enough as it is, and something about the blithe inappropriateness of it all really appeals to me. paris hilton's album still one of my favourites of the 00s, real talk.

i just find it way less offensive that "career" pop stars who i feel are talentless or obnoxious or unredeemable, like katy perry or ke$ha - the idea of kim kardash, paris h &c making music is really no more ridiculous than that.

kim might make a good record, anything's possible, but people being excited about the idea of someone making music before they've heard them sing is pretty dumb imo.

and i have nothing against her existing or being famous -- unlike paris, she's at least hot (and it's not like there aren't plenty of other celebrities who aren't basically just famous for being hot)

So Britney debuts at #1, Avril at #13, and "Ham" at #23. Wiz enters the top 5.

i think "hold it against me" is really good -- wish the synths were less guettafied but whatever -- love the hook tho, very house diva -- dubstep-y bridge is nice too

i think the avril is kind of a mess tho -- it has that same cheerleader sorta thing going on as "girlfriend" but as a song it's just way less interesting & fun

& her voice is just absurd, still

I haven't heard either and don't really care enough to remedy that.

the t.i./chris brown really has nice production, but it's such a shit song in every respect

There's an unexpected piece in this week's EW about why Robyn can't seem to crossover in the US. In short, too many people who sound like her are crowding the market. Now Pink's trying to cop her look too, I guess.

much as i don't like pink i'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say that was just a coincidence and that the photo just happens to look unusually robyn-esque. i mean, the two don't look that different to begin with and pink has always gone for the androgynous thing.

btw one of the reasons Robyn isn't a huge star in America is she looks mannish even compared to Pink

xp and also because while robyn's material may be stylistically pop in every respect, from the hooks to the production, her vocals are much more diffident and detached than most.
