my opinions on pop/rap get fucked when i can't ride around listening to the radio all the time

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 January 2011 06:14 (fifteen years ago)

I sometimes feel like the Pop/Punk and Pop/Rock period of 2006-2009 went way too fast.

probably compounded by missing the 2002-2005 era of same?

Tim F, Saturday, 8 January 2011 06:31 (fifteen years ago)

btw also i was watching keeping up with the kardashians and there she was

ciara

talking to kim kardashian about how the dream wanted to work wit her

cici's going to be on the kim kardash album, isn't she

*dies*

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Saturday, 8 January 2011 07:50 (fifteen years ago)

I honestly don't understand for the life of me why someone would be interested in a Kim Kardashian album.

i don't even vacuum, i'm roomba pimpin (The Reverend), Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:20 (fifteen years ago)

cuz it'd be written by the-dream

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:21 (fifteen years ago)

Oh ok, fair nuff. I didn't catch that. But still, aren't there more constructive uses of his talents?

i don't even vacuum, i'm roomba pimpin (The Reverend), Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:25 (fifteen years ago)

are there more constructive uses of his dick?

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:26 (fifteen years ago)

What is she even famous for? I don't even know who she is other than a name.

i don't even vacuum, i'm roomba pimpin (The Reverend), Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:26 (fifteen years ago)

sorry that was mean & mildly sexist xp

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:27 (fifteen years ago)

she's famous for being famous! socialite etc

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:27 (fifteen years ago)

kim's less obnoxious than the other socialites tbh

The Brainwasher, Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:28 (fifteen years ago)

Oh good, I care even less about her than before.

so jealous

also she's dating kanye west now (allegedly)

The Brainwasher, Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:33 (fifteen years ago)

i'm pretty much pro the idea of most famous-for-being-famous socialites releasing music. their existence is kind of ridiculous enough as it is, and something about the blithe inappropriateness of it all really appeals to me. paris hilton's album still one of my favourites of the 00s, real talk.

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:34 (fifteen years ago)

i had no idea

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:35 (fifteen years ago)

haha kanye deserves kim

(not that i have the slightest idea of ~what she's like~ having never actually experienced her in whatever her natural habitat is)

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:35 (fifteen years ago)

their existence is kind of ridiculous enough as it is, and something about the blithe inappropriateness of it all really appeals to me

this is a good defense tho -- i feel like rich j. would approve!

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:35 (fifteen years ago)

definitely I agree with that! it's like - why shouldn't kim k release an album at this point

The Brainwasher, Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:36 (fifteen years ago)

I just feel more like why should she exist?

i don't even vacuum, i'm roomba pimpin (The Reverend), Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:38 (fifteen years ago)

defending ppl like her turns one into an extreme capitalist -- she exists because the market demands that she exist

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:40 (fifteen years ago)

I don't recall being an extreme capitalist at any point in my life.

i don't even vacuum, i'm roomba pimpin (The Reverend), Saturday, 8 January 2011 08:42 (fifteen years ago)

i just find it way less offensive that "career" pop stars who i feel are talentless or obnoxious or unredeemable, like katy perry or ke$ha - the idea of kim kardash, paris h &c making music is really no more ridiculous than that.

also there's the idea of setting what is really a very weird existence - like why should they exist? why do they? it feels very unstable, like it shouldn't exist, and yet there they are larger than life - setting this to music. on which note, this speculative village voice blog on kim and terius is AMAZING http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/2010/11/the_ballad_of_k.php

kim might make a good record, anything's possible, but people being excited about the idea of someone making music before they've heard them sing is pretty dumb imo.

some dude, Saturday, 8 January 2011 13:48 (fifteen years ago)

and i have nothing against her existing or being famous -- unlike paris, she's at least hot (and it's not like there aren't plenty of other celebrities who aren't basically just famous for being hot)

Do you guys think that any radio stations considered censoring the part in "grenade" Where bruno Mars sings "ill take a bullet thru the brain for yaaaaaa" like how they retroactively bleeped "blew up like the world trade" in "juicy"

J0rdan S., Thursday, 13 January 2011 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

No, but now they will. Good going!

i like the new akon single a lot & i have always hated his singles

flopson, Thursday, 20 January 2011 05:57 (fifteen years ago)

So Britney debuts at #1, Avril at #13, and "Ham" at #23. Wiz enters the top 5.

The Reverend, Thursday, 20 January 2011 06:56 (fifteen years ago)

i think "hold it against me" is really good -- wish the synths were less guettafied but whatever -- love the hook tho, very house diva -- dubstep-y bridge is nice too

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 07:01 (fifteen years ago)

i think the avril is kind of a mess tho -- it has that same cheerleader sorta thing going on as "girlfriend" but as a song it's just way less interesting & fun

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 07:04 (fifteen years ago)

& her voice is just absurd, still

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 07:04 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't heard either and don't really care enough to remedy that.

The Reverend, Thursday, 20 January 2011 07:07 (fifteen years ago)

the t.i./chris brown really has nice production, but it's such a shit song in every respect

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 09:03 (fifteen years ago)

i kind of love the Avril (and i hated "Girlfriend")

some dude, Thursday, 20 January 2011 14:21 (fifteen years ago)

pink lookin hella robyn right here

http://i54.tinypic.com/21dlzmd.png

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 January 2011 06:17 (fifteen years ago)

There's an unexpected piece in this week's EW about why Robyn can't seem to crossover in the US. In short, too many people who sound like her are crowding the market. Now Pink's trying to cop her look too, I guess.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 January 2011 06:22 (fifteen years ago)

much as i don't like pink i'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say that was just a coincidence and that the photo just happens to look unusually robyn-esque. i mean, the two don't look that different to begin with and pink has always gone for the androgynous thing.

one of my old friends talked to me the other day and he lol'd about how she (robyn) is going to open for katy perry's tour.

teledyldonix, Monday, 24 January 2011 14:18 (fifteen years ago)

god someone find my long post from last year about how exasperated I am with the "{female pop singer x} is stealing {female pop singer y}'s look!}" conspiracy theories.

btw one of the reasons Robyn isn't a huge star in America is she looks mannish even compared to Pink

trv kvnt (some dude), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:29 (fifteen years ago)

pink looks more like herself than robyn in that picture

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:32 (fifteen years ago)

femme fatale lipstick + lacy bra showing + smoky eyeshadow = not very robyn at all, in fact

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

xp and also because while robyn's material may be stylistically pop in every respect, from the hooks to the production, her vocals are much more diffident and detached than most.

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:34 (fifteen years ago)

if robyn was popular would she have this much critical attention?

*gets the power* (deej), Monday, 24 January 2011 15:54 (fifteen years ago)

why not? her most successful singles are usually the ones that get the most critical attn

Australian beardo covers Blackstreet? It's not a travesty a la Karmin or whatever, but I'm trying to figure out what about this was necessary...
