If we haters thought ignoring the DMB would make them go away, that would be our approach. But no, a collective takedown is of course necessary!

Hmm, so this is the Dave Matthews thread. I've been around, but never been here before. It's not surprising, I've never heared the band.

OK, I'm off now.

Many of us here have issues. Some of us don't floss enough, others are stuck with those who don't floss enough; some of us drink too much, some of us don't exercise ,etc. But one thing that improves our lives is that our ears are never assaulted by the DMB, unless by sheer unfortunate accident.

TRG (TRG), Saturday, 22 October 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

EGAD!!!

this is the what the future shall refer to as 'smart-art' which will come to mean- people that looked beyond the context of merely bashing an idea/thing/person and went into the realm of complete absurdity. therefore transcending the original horrible idea/thing/person being bashed and made the bashing of bashing more fun that the original idea/thing/person. seeing only what it was before them and the tools available to achieve this were txt and img related, they managed to convey an idea so universal and supported that google had no choice but to accept that DMB Suck and ARE so bad&hated.
and as we all know, when the TimeWarner/AOL/Google-lords took over, this was one they're most favored creations...

thusly, the txt's and img's were printed in gold-leaf and embossed on virgin catepillar silk made into the finest paper-esque substances available, and distributed amongst the peoples so that they, too, might know of the exquisite hilarity that was DMB+his fans trying vainly to turn other's well formed and also well based opinions.
run on sentences were all included and extended by taking out all punctunation...

of course, Nick and Buzz will be regarded as the architects of this brave new art movment!

this is my fav, ilm thread.

Pablo (Pablo A), Saturday, 10 December 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

Wow, this is great, I finally get to the end of the thread, thinking it'll just be some unfunny troublemaker with some smart arse cartoon or whathave you, and instead it's just some honest person trying to make a case for Dave. If anyone here has read the Kate Bush "Aerial" thread I would like to make a private joke here and note that the term he uses here is "bland". Make of that what you will.

Vinegar and Artichoke Hearts (Bimble...), Saturday, 10 December 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

Dave Matthews fans scorning John Mayer fans: an object lesson in the narcissism of small differences.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:47 (twenty years ago)

I give up you know. I don't care if this thread goes on forever. Let the Matthews fall where they may. We've got nothing left to lose, people. This thread may be the one thing that never dies.

Vinegar and Artichoke Hearts (Bimble...), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:52 (twenty years ago)

In 1000 years, there will be an archive of the internet with the Peanut Butter Jelly Banana, Homestar, goatse, this thread, and three buttsex movies.

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

I read this whole thread and cannot believe this opinion hasn't been adequately expressed:

Dave Matthews is innocuous.

He isn't "exciting" or "original" or even "good" per se. But his music isn't really that offensive either. it just sort of exists. Like radishes or minor league baseball teams or the Family Feud with the guy from Home Improvement hosting.

WHAT DOES CHRISTGAU THINK?!

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Friday, 6 January 2006 01:20 (twenty years ago)

"Crash" gets a bomb.

He was a little nicer to this one but it's still funny:

Under the Table and Dreaming [RCA, 1994]
Popular groundswells do vary in discernment, as students of jogging, nail care salons, and tax limits know. Like his homeboy and forebear Bruce Hornsby, Matthews jams politely. His instrumentation invokes classical, jazz, and bluegrass niceties. And although one can understand the deep-seated impatience with agony-as-entertainment his renown reflects, he's as bland as a tofu sandwich. C+

TRG (TRG), Friday, 6 January 2006 02:06 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
Has anyone listened to Before These Crowded Streets? Can I suggest The Stone or Dreaming Tree? Perhaps try a show, it's freedom. I can understand why you hate us.

we need to whip this thread into shape.
first, squat thrusts, then, free wieghts.

Just watch they don't dump shit over you.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:38 (twenty years ago)

personally, i'd love to see this thread hit the 4 yr mark. i know that's some ways away, but i think with a little hard work, some elbow grease, and a lot of luck, it just might make it anyway!!!

eedd, Thursday, 27 April 2006 20:30 (twenty years ago)

Can someone pretend to be a sincerely outraged DMB fan and post it to like a myspace group or something?

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 27 April 2006 20:34 (twenty years ago)

The ineffable brilliance of CcchrissS's post will outlast ILM itself

Roque Strew (RoqueStrew), Friday, 28 April 2006 01:59 (twenty years ago)

whehn I see that the thread is awake, I think "there's no way that could still be funny any more," and I even feel a little irritated about it, and then I open the thread and maybe happen across the CcchrissS post and the joy grabs hold of me like the spirit of God moving across the face of the waters

some of the greatest artists ever are bland
Greatest post in the history of the internet. I really think this thread deserves a wikipedia entry.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 28 April 2006 23:10 (twenty years ago)

""some of the greatest artists ever are bland""

that would mean Yanni, Enya, Phil Collins solo career, Sting's solo stuff, and most "adult contemporary" would be considered "great art"?!!!
the mind boggles, freezes, reverses step, then falls off the world.

eedd, Saturday, 29 April 2006 11:58 (twenty years ago)

This one cracks me up:

Perhaps try a show, it's freedom. I can understand why you hate us.
