yep

swvl, Sunday, 2 January 2011 01:01 (fifteen years ago)

i really like how he sometimes lets the beats ride out for way after he's finished rapping. he's definitely a guy who has a strong relationship with the beats he chooses; deej otm calling him being a rap nerd. sucks that other songs get cut short mid bar tho

tears of a self-clowning oven (The Reverend), Sunday, 2 January 2011 02:47 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, dude has probably the strongest aesthetic of any rapper that i can think of right now.

ianmaxwell, Sunday, 2 January 2011 03:02 (fifteen years ago)

i love how dude is a total rap nerd ... he drops so many references & has a pretty great / diverse selection of beats-from-rap-history & different styles ...

ha. as an aging rawkus nerd, i really appreciate curren$y's ongoing nerdy shouts to mos def -- the respiration quote on 'fashionably late,' "the potency of the beat is consistent with the fact that mos did it"...

swvl, Sunday, 2 January 2011 03:50 (fifteen years ago)

i don't think shouting out your producer gets to count as nerdy. ("resperation" quote, sure)

tears of a self-clowning oven (The Reverend), Sunday, 2 January 2011 03:51 (fifteen years ago)

haha yeah ok. still feel like there might inherently be something a little nerdy about working with mos def to begin with. (i mean this as a compliment!)

swvl, Sunday, 2 January 2011 03:57 (fifteen years ago)

yeah.

tears of a self-clowning oven (The Reverend), Sunday, 2 January 2011 04:03 (fifteen years ago)

the new tape isn't really doing much for me. it seems like spitta isn't very.....present, i guess, on it.

tears of a self-clowning oven (The Reverend), Monday, 3 January 2011 09:26 (fifteen years ago)

the rapping just kinda recedes into the background

tears of a self-clowning oven (The Reverend), Monday, 3 January 2011 09:27 (fifteen years ago)

am I the only who sees m white posts and my brain starts going "MICHAEL WHITE! MICHAEL WHITE MICHAEL WHITE! *skewdodododododo*" now?

more anecdotal currensy vs wiz: this evening I showed my sister how to use slsk and the first song she went for was "say yeah"

Apparently he's got a new album coming out next week? And then Pilot Talk III in April. Dude is one productive stoner.

Number None, Friday, 7 January 2011 15:10 (fifteen years ago)

Apparently he also has an Alchemist-produced mixtape in the works.

yeah, dude has probably the strongest aesthetic of any rapper that i can think of right now.

the back-cover art of pilot talk being a weedy parody of a motivational poster that used to be in a lot of my high school classrooms was A+

difficult listening hour, Wednesday, 12 January 2011 19:45 (fifteen years ago)

or sorry not back-cover. the booklet. it was in the booklet.

difficult listening hour, Wednesday, 12 January 2011 19:46 (fifteen years ago)

Just listening to Return to the Winners' Circle for the first time. On the all-kinds-of-rap nerd tip, dude quoting E40 and shouting out Mac Dre makes me love him even more.

Has anyone seen this dude live? Wondering if he plays with a band or what.

champagne hippies trying to recapture their youth (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

I've seen footage of him performing live w/ band, but it seems like he usually plays w/ a dj.

Feeling that little bass riff that Blood Sweat & Gears is built around.
