OK, I'm getting the impression that 'Heartbeat' has never been officially released, despite floating around for ages. Is that right?

Is No Easy Love a cover? It sounds familiar...

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 12:13 (nineteen years ago) link

"Me Plus One" = "(Keep Feeling) Fascination"

thought that straight away too. nothing else to add to this thread really now that i'm finally hearing the album, except

Mark's right about 'Keep Feeling Fascination,' the vocal melody in the verses is just way too similar, but who cares am I joining in the love and effusive praise for Annie. The rhythm on "Happy Without You" is fun.

Expo.

Dare, Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:22 (nineteen years ago) link

Ah! You're right, it does remind me of "Fascination" a bit.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Also - the guitar bit on 'Me+1' sounds like it might have been sampled from Orange Juice's 'Rip it Up'. (Or Haircut 100 - the title might be a tip of the hat to 'Love+1'?)

'No Easy Love' IS a cover but who by i just can't for the life of me recall

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:35 (nineteen years ago) link

'Me Plus One' is an RX-Hannah Robinson penned production too.

PS I envy all of you.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:39 (nineteen years ago) link

Steve, maybe you could forego that dance disc for an Anniemal plus previous releases disc instead.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:40 (nineteen years ago) link

"No Easy Love" sounds like something by Trembling Blue Stars

the todster (the todster), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 15:15 (nineteen years ago) link

i thought 'no easy love' is just very similar to something else though can't recall what. google-age turns up no other song with that title. it's really been bugging me though. it recalls a love unlimited tune i think (scratches head).

piscesboy, Tuesday, 14 September 2004 15:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Ronan - I haven't got those remixes yet. No hurry though! Gmail can be as shit as Hotmail sometimes.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 15:52 (nineteen years ago) link

can i make a request for those too?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 15:53 (nineteen years ago) link

(this is only vaguely Annie-related but when I try to send mp3s via gmail it tells me that the document I am sending contains no data. What Am I Doing Wrong? Annie remixes totally up for grabs to anyone who can help)

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 15:57 (nineteen years ago) link

I find I can only ever send one, maybe two mp3s at any one time. but it doesn't tell me stuff about no data, it just sits there vacantly and refuses to send.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 16:04 (nineteen years ago) link

It is very much doing this too. If I bung it all in a zip file it does the same thing. THIS IS NOT VERY REVOLUTIONARY, GMAIL

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 16:08 (nineteen years ago) link

Neither me nor my elderly, cantankerous computer can cope with zip files...

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 16:10 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm having no problems sending or receiving mp3 via gmail

Heartbeat was (i think) originally released as "I Will Get On" on Telle 7". I have this 7" with foldout poster featuring the original version and a superb Doc L Junior Mix. Both versions are excellent. The discogs posting for this single says it contains elements of Heartbeat. I also have her collaboration with some bizarre male vocalist. Not her best effort but another piece of the story. I also have two copies of the Erot 12" on Discfunction titled Two Songs for Annie. Interestingly, neither feature Annie's voice but one samples that Pop Will Eat Itself song that goes "We Like The Music, We Like The Disco Sound". I'm dying to share my Annie collection for a copy of Anniemal. I have most everything encoded from original vinyl to trade. BTW, i have ordered both UK CD Singles and the 7" of Chewing Gum so i'm not STEALING MUSIC (as Mr. James Barth would say!)

Long Live Bergen, Norway!!!

biznotic, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 01:32 (nineteen years ago) link

Anyone on Slsk with Anniemal would let you leech till you die if you let 'em download those, I'd wager.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 01:55 (nineteen years ago) link

not on SLSK unfortunately.

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 08:22 (nineteen years ago) link

Biznotic, the "bizarre male vocalist" collab. is the Fredrik Saroea single, which is also on the Discogs page and I also referenced it upthread. Didn't know 'Song For Annie' was also a 12", but seeing as they're technically songs for her by her then-boyfriend, it's no suprise she doesn't sing, y'know?

PS, Affectian/SPACK is sharing just about everything Annie's ever done on slsk already, suggest y'all have a word with him.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 08:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Ah - thanks for that biznotic. I was wondering about 'I Will Get On'. So saying it contains "elements" of 'Heartbeat' is understating it, then?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 09:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Saw Annie DJ at the Bestival on Saturday. She was fantastic, really. She played This is Radio Clash and (I think) Lopazz feat. Alex Cortex: "I Need Ya Hi Time" and a remix of Chewing Gum as well as looking fantastic and having loads of fun - singing along and so on. Lovely.

Jamie (Jamie T Smith), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:12 (nineteen years ago) link

Someone needs to find some dirt on Annie.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:18 (nineteen years ago) link

i found some, just below her left elbow. did you know below is an anagram of elbow?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:26 (nineteen years ago) link

My sources tell me she's "lovely". Sorry, that's not dirt. Errr, she eats babies.

Tag (Tag), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Isn't 'Heartbeat' a Royksopp production tho'? 'I Will Get On' was produced by Erot etc.

I didn't get what the fuss was about Chewing Gum till I saw the video last night and now I can't get the damn thing out of my head. It definitely takes a few listens to hit home.

Just heard this album today btw - loving it!

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 16 September 2004 01:24 (nineteen years ago) link

Just listened to Heartbeat on the Annie website and can positively say it bears no resemblence to I Will Get On...not even close. Must be a diff. Heartbeat refered to on the discogs listing.

agree that the new site is cool...not cool as fuck but cool as a september evening.

biznotic, Thursday, 16 September 2004 03:02 (nineteen years ago) link

WHEN IS HER ALBUM COMING OUT IN THE STATES?????????

reo, Thursday, 16 September 2004 03:30 (nineteen years ago) link

I can't understand all the people on this thread who have said that Chewing Gum is a grower - it's like the most instantly catchy thing ever, I mean, that's kind of the point of it surely?! I think all these people might be joking.

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 16 September 2004 08:21 (nineteen years ago) link

It took a while to get under my skin. I heard it and thought "This is objectively catchy" (if that means anything) but I took a few listens to really appreciate it. I still don't love it nearly as much as 'Heartbeat', but 'Heartbeat' is rapidly becoming one of my favourite songs of all time, so that's not surprising,

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 16 September 2004 08:44 (nineteen years ago) link

I can't understand all the people on this thread who have said that Chewing Gum is a grower

OTM.

The first things I thought - in order - where: This is good, sounds like The Tom Tom Club, This is REALLY catchy, who is it? Oh, so THAT'S the Annie that everyone's been talking about on ILM.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 16 September 2004 08:45 (nineteen years ago) link

I got it about the same time as Heartbeat and preferred that for a while. Alba otm, I thought "this sounds catchy but it's not catching". I was literally about to post on this thread and say "I'm not really feeling Chewing Gum" then I thought about it and thought "well maybe I'll listen to it again, I kind of have it in my head now".

And well, the rest is history.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 16 September 2004 08:54 (nineteen years ago) link

Ha cha cha - that 'Chewing Gum' video is quite a thing. It reminds me of one of those episodes of 'Bewitched' where Samantha's brunette minx of a sister showed up. With a kind of p-mod Busby Berkeley spirit, too.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 16 September 2004 09:16 (nineteen years ago) link

yes I can see how Chewing Gum is almost so deliberately ('objectively') catchy that it's offputting - like it's too easy. some people said that about Some Girls too, which I also loved instantly. I'm such a sucker.

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 16 September 2004 09:29 (nineteen years ago) link

Despite the schaffel nods, it took me quite a long time to get 'Some Girls', I suppose the temporary diversion of 'The Show' may have had something to do with that.

Richard X's tracks often leave me a little cold to begin with, before growing on me, and I'm not sure why this one had such instant appeal to me. I'm wondering if seeing the video first made it make more sense? I don't have music channels and was around my girlfriend's parents house flicking through 50 channels of dross.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 16 September 2004 10:03 (nineteen years ago) link

no easy love = sampled from shakatak!!! so it's not a cover then?

yeah that site's ace.

piscesboy, Thursday, 16 September 2004 11:04 (nineteen years ago) link

what is that Shakatak song called? it has the line 'take your time away' at the end of the chorus doesn't it?

the neurotic rassafrassa of harrumph (blueski), Thursday, 16 September 2004 11:10 (nineteen years ago) link

should've gone to the site in the first place. shocked to find 'The Greatest Hit' is as old as it is. like the 'Chewing Gum' video but she really shouldn't wave her ass in my face so much (i mean because it is awesome).
