This thread has made me realize that I think "cute" is p much just a visual quality in my mind. Like even a lizard or a garlic can totally be cute to look at, but it is impossible to think of a cute song. Like I think the reason I posted that song is it has a cute 16 bit monkey dancing to it. I can't remember a single time I've heard a song and thought, "How cute!"

The closest I can think of is Alison Shaw. She might have a "cute" (neotenous?) voice, but I have never heard a Cranes song and said, in the words of my grandma, "Awwww fer cute."

I think it would've been a clever prank on Cranes fans if, beneath all that darkwave cacophony (or whatever -- I'm not that familiar w/ their music), she was actually singing about tricycles and smiley faces and cotton candy and other cutesy non-goth things that suited her voice, rather than the expected hellfire and torture and chandeliers made out of fetus bones.
