i mean, the laziness is what bothers me the most about it. Like, I love woozy synths and nostalgic keychanges as much as the next guy, but like put some fucking effort abd passion into it, you clowns. I know you're all of the "Nickelodeon Guts" generation and mom raised you all to be special little snowflakes but fuck

Of the Altered Zones aesthetic, I mainly enjoy with the Majuere/Zombi axis side of things, love Zola Jesus, like Nite Jewel, Emeralds too

Mark McGuire album is awesome and 'brothers' is a song for the ages.

O Permaban (NickB), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

The 20jfg list is up and I would link to it if I could operate this dumb ass web gadget.

O Permaban (NickB), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:21 (fifteen years ago)

It's basically more of that sort of thing btw

O Permaban (NickB), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:21 (fifteen years ago)

I can't get into the Mark McGuire.

Although I am relived his name is actually his name and not WHOA RECONTEXTUALIZING ish like "Hype Williams" or "Phillip Seymour Hoffman" or "Dale Earnhart Jr Jr"

mmmm... yung hummus (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:23 (fifteen years ago)

i like that autre ne veut disc a lot. not sure why you'd think that it lacks passion and effort. the vocals are a little detached, i suppose, but i'm guessing that's more about the guy compensating for his limitations as a singer?

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:26 (fifteen years ago)

ah, i think i read someone going on-and-on about how good a singer that guy is. show's how little i know, i guess.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:27 (fifteen years ago)

McGuire was my dozing off album for ages, and it wasn't until one night recently when I wasn't sleeping too well cos of sickness that I heard 'Brothers' for the first time and I basically sat bolt upright and punched the fucking air and my heart was glad and then i threw up in a bin.

O Permaban (NickB), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:29 (fifteen years ago)

Die Antwoord, "Jou Ma Se Poes In 'n Fishpaste Jar"

cmon guys this is a cool song

Ned Rag & the Evil Olive Gardens (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

didn't they sing the taco-bell song? maybe that was das racist?

wtfk.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

That was Das Rascist.

Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

i don't get that band at all.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:08 (fifteen years ago)

wtf, I'm enjoying a Die Antwoord song

delete everything

Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

nooooooooo

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

;_;

Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

like seriously, I have no idea how this happened and I feel like I've been compromised by aliens

Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

wow

Shakey Moe Szyslak (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

just wait til they play a juggalo gathering and you need to go

Shakey Moe Szyslak (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

it's like a bearable version of SALEM

Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:19 (fifteen years ago)

this mcguire album is actually quite good. there will probably be some kind of karmic retribution against me for saying this but it almost has a hejira/mingus joni type ambience. a chillwave explosions in the sky is probably a better analogy but it's been a really good cold winter afternoon listen.

skip, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 21:12 (fifteen years ago)

Something about the drifting dreamy mood of it reminded me a lot of Popol Vuh.

O Permaban (NickB), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

Plus, that Rangers album is Salem/Antwoord for The Wire set

No idea what that means, but I've been enjoying the Rangers album. How many lists did it appear on? One or two at most?

Position Position, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 21:37 (fifteen years ago)

i listened to the rangers album and was distinctly unimpressed, and i'm usually predisposed to digging that sort of thing

elizabeth pisstake club (electricsound), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 21:54 (fifteen years ago)

i find die antwoord tolerable because 1. their 'irony' is actually supposed to be funny+entertaining rather than just a lazy curtain to hide behind and 2. they are pretty catchy and fun

which fucking mcguire album am i supposed to listen to? dude came out with like three this year? thinking thats not a good sign...

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 21 December 2010 22:03 (fifteen years ago)

I only know of two, the new one in question here and a reissue that was a compilation of some older stuff (and really great, fwiw).

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 22:08 (fifteen years ago)

The one on Mego called 'Living With Yourself'. Haven't actually heard any of the others. xp

O Permaban (NickB), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

it took me til just now to figure out that oOoOO is a completely different band from OOIOO

some dude, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 22:27 (fifteen years ago)

"Hype Williams" as a name really annoys me.

just wanna second the love for deej's year-end list, it's great

k3vin k., Wednesday, 22 December 2010 15:37 (fifteen years ago)

it's all hip-hop/rap though!

like, if someone puts out a year-end list that's 100% "in my world of white guitar ppl" we all lose our shit

deej's list is similarly zzzzzzzz, right?

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 15:46 (fifteen years ago)

Well, deej's is a rap list for a rap blog. I would hope his full list would be, like rawse, deeper than rap.

Real curious to see how u guys react (if at all) to my list. It's pretty whineycentric.

mmmm... yung hummus (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 15:51 (fifteen years ago)

i for one am excited to see yr list

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 15:52 (fifteen years ago)

obv that is like an anti-compliment but whatevs

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 15:52 (fifteen years ago)

ilxor I would be honored if you did an ilxor-style data dump on my list, even if just over email

mmmm... yung hummus (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:00 (fifteen years ago)

i have no problem with an all white guitar rock list if its awesome. and doesn't count out black guitar rock (if there is any that is worth hearing). and it doesn't put the suburbs and my lame homo fishstick fantasy at #1 and #2

irish xmas caek, get that marzipan inta ya (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:02 (fifteen years ago)

where is your list whiney?

i am mostly interested, as and when i make my list, as to whether anyone discovers new stuff they love through it, rather than nitpicking over what's at #8 vs #9, which is broadly interchangeable anyway.

mmmm... yung hummus (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:04 (fifteen years ago)

why wait if it's ready now?

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:07 (fifteen years ago)

Cuz it ain't ready!

mmmm... yung hummus (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:07 (fifteen years ago)

it's also not the end of the year yet!

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:09 (fifteen years ago)

- jazmine sullivan
- ciara
- r. kelly

(- keri hilson: not likely to be on anyone's list, not even mine, but doesn't deserve to be ignored either)

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:12 (fifteen years ago)

...

If it isn't actually good enough to appear on anyone's best-of-the-year list, why does its release date matter?

Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:15 (fifteen years ago)

Yep, records that are getting fucked on ppls lists because they're poppin out to early

if more than a few random ilxors and geoff barrow stans had heard of anika, that might help a bit

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:18 (fifteen years ago)

that r. kelly shit is all over my list, it's really good!

At least Diddy is sure to wind up on my list next December.
