by which i mean not that "hard in da paint" felt repetitive artistically (seeing as it came out first), but that it would feel repetitive to list one after the other

deej how is noz overstating the argument of gucci falling off in any different way than you

ha fair pt i guess its just a matter of degree
― *plop*ism rules (deej), Wednesday, 15 December 2010 19:33 (thirteen years ago) link
from what i've heard, "no hands" was a pretty big club hit in the south - i completely disagree with giving "bmf" props over "hard in da paint" but it's pretty good to see "no hands" getting recognition
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Wednesday, 15 December 2010 19:34 (thirteen years ago) link
i.e. my top 40 will still have 4-5 gucci tracks (everybody lookin / what its gonna be / trap talk / its alive / long money)
― *plop*ism rules (deej), Wednesday, 15 December 2010 19:34 (thirteen years ago) link
no hands is a pretty big hit all over -- its more the pop crossover single than hard n da paint is
&, imo, its success sorta justifies its presence on the album (although i liked it prior anyway, it feels *better* as a result of being popular somehow)
― *plop*ism rules (deej), Wednesday, 15 December 2010 19:35 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah it's really one of the bigger rap hits of the year, period

i mean i think this is true objectively -- like it's easier to put up w/ crossover tracks when they're actually successful -- by nature their presence is then justified, obv
take gucci's album for instance & you have all these r&b features that weren't even hits and it feels completely pointless -- "no hands" doesn't have the same problem
also i agree about it seeming "better"
― *plop*timist (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 December 2010 19:37 (thirteen years ago) link
i'm surprised that "long money" is the gucci track that's cropping in lists. my gucci 5 of the year would be atlanta zoo/electricity/soldier/vampires/tired of you
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Wednesday, 15 December 2010 19:39 (thirteen years ago) link
mine would be normal/first song back/it's alive/what's it gonna be/long money (w/ "pretty boy swag" & "i just wanna party" in there as classic features)
― *plop*timist (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 December 2010 19:41 (thirteen years ago) link
there was another early year feature that i cant remember that i would include

Every track seemed to have a lot of different versions, so there's actually going to be a digital-only version of the album soon which will have some of those on there. I can't tell you how many versions of "Keep It Up" and "Baby Can't Stop" there are. It was really hard sometimes to pick which one to put on the album. -- Lindstrom
cant wait for this

Is anyone here a big Actress fan? I love a couple of tracks in the middle but don't understand the album-of-the-year love.

it's one of those albums that sound nice when you're doing something else as far as i can tell - never got into it beyond that. though at the protests last week i was assured that repeated listens would reveal its true wonder. that person used the word "deleuzian" in all seriousness two minutes later, fyi.
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Wednesday, 15 December 2010 19:51 (thirteen years ago) link
if you're ill atm i would imagine that's the ideal time to give it another go tho!
After a decade of reading bloggers talking about dance music, fuck "Deleuzian" and the Guattari it rode in on.
The James Blake album, however, is amazing ill-person music.

I'm glad I didn't have to turn in a list this year because this collection of stuff I'm largely not familiar with would have blown it to bits: http://www.skatterbrain.org/2010/12/au-revoir-2010-songs.html

iirc one of the 'rules' of noz's lists is that an artist can only be on the list once as a primary artist (although no limit to features), like there was only one gucci solo track on his list last year too

Love a few tracks off the Actress album (Lost, Always Human, Purrple), kind of admire a lot of the rest (its sense of purpose, its thoroughness), but don't really feel a pressing need to go back to it much.
