Yeah, I'm happy to see Beach House on tracks lists but less so on album lists. They should just take up an official slogan like, "great songs, boring albums".

first four songs on the Beach House album are great, starts to fade together after that

though considering that's exactly what I said about the Soft Pack and the Chap albums yesterday, maybe it's a listening problem on my part

some remotely o_O picks on noz' list (no hands in top 5, ronan's revenge, monster #2) but i appreciate that he resists the urge to be a total contrarian snob all the time. he could definitely have made a more poised & cool list but he didn't

also interesting to see gucci at 22 when last year his number 1 was just a short list of gucci youtubes. i still don't think he really fell off (although he didn't produce nearly as much & the album was disappointing) but interesting to see how he's been so quickly put aside for new favourites. it's been a good year for noz discovering fledgling rap music though, cant blame him for getting all caught up in it

could be, i can't remember anything too specific abt previous year's list. more i just think it kind of conflicts with certain arguments he's made over about like, going hard, rapping well, ppl overrating certain records

i find usually the top ~10 range of lists both personal & collective contain the worst music though, and i think almost everything is awesome past that point here too

slightly surprised caribou are #1 (thought it'd be actress or flying lotus) but yeah very good list as per usual

"no hands" is waka's biggest single but noz does seem like the first critic anywhere who's picked it as his favorite.

in no way is it better than "hard in da paint" obv but i think if you like "no hands" a lot & are putting together a list like this, i think "i like 'b.m.f.' better & i thought 'hard in da paint' felt repetitive" is a good enough argument to justify listing "no hands"

by which i mean not that "hard in da paint" felt repetitive artistically (seeing as it came out first), but that it would feel repetitive to list one after the other

ha fair pt i guess its just a matter of degree

from what i've heard, "no hands" was a pretty big club hit in the south - i completely disagree with giving "bmf" props over "hard in da paint" but it's pretty good to see "no hands" getting recognition

i.e. my top 40 will still have 4-5 gucci tracks (everybody lookin / what its gonna be / trap talk / its alive / long money)

no hands is a pretty big hit all over -- its more the pop crossover single than hard n da paint is

&, imo, its success sorta justifies its presence on the album (although i liked it prior anyway, it feels *better* as a result of being popular somehow)

i mean i think this is true objectively -- like it's easier to put up w/ crossover tracks when they're actually successful -- by nature their presence is then justified, obv

take gucci's album for instance & you have all these r&b features that weren't even hits and it feels completely pointless -- "no hands" doesn't have the same problem

also i agree about it seeming "better"

i'm surprised that "long money" is the gucci track that's cropping in lists. my gucci 5 of the year would be atlanta zoo/electricity/soldier/vampires/tired of you

mine would be normal/first song back/it's alive/what's it gonna be/long money (w/ "pretty boy swag" & "i just wanna party" in there as classic features)

there was another early year feature that i cant remember that i would include

sad about lack of love for 'trap talk' -- sell u a sack of leaves

Every track seemed to have a lot of different versions, so there's actually going to be a digital-only version of the album soon which will have some of those on there. I can't tell you how many versions of "Keep It Up" and "Baby Can't Stop" there are. It was really hard sometimes to pick which one to put on the album. -- Lindstrom
