Need to research this more, but I think that since Sasha Frere-Jones reviewed a big reggaeton show at Madison Square Garden in the New Yorker several years back, that he has not written about any Spanish-language pop since (despite his criticisms of others several years back).

tbf sfj has kinda not been on the bleeding edge of anything for a minute

lotta diamonds ... but prolly more display names (deej), Thursday, 9 December 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

isn't he busy writing a book or sumthing?

hipity-hopity muzik ftw! (Ioannis), Thursday, 9 December 2010 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

I think so, but he still contributes some to the New Yorker and lists his 2010 best albums and singles on his blog or tumblr

curmudgeon, Thursday, 9 December 2010 17:41 (fifteen years ago)

since when is being on the bleeding edge of anything important?

oh wait i'm talking to deej, nvm

for a dude that had universal ilx praise round here for awhile im kind of in the he-fell-off camp. freddie gibbs piece was eye-roll-y, & there's something so trite & un-critical about stuff like this: "Get ready for a fight about the legitimacy of the group and, hopefully, for an influx of more South African pop culture."

pointless request but can we talk about music instead of each other because frankly this bullshit meta sniping is what makes you all incredibly tedious and useless

Pop Matters singles list includes the title track from the Roots' How I Got Over. the album was released in June 2010 but that song was released as a single in June 2009.

Local Hardman (some dude), Thursday, 9 December 2010 18:03 (fifteen years ago)

had a good run for awhile there

omar little, Thursday, 9 December 2010 18:04 (fifteen years ago)

can you all just keep insulting each other cuz i'd actually prefer that to talk of the arcade fire and kanye.

scott seward, Thursday, 9 December 2010 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

let's all talk about Vampire Weekend instead. i like 'em.

hipity-hopity muzik ftw! (Ioannis), Thursday, 9 December 2010 18:15 (fifteen years ago)

xp Rock-A-Rolla wrote back and said Reckless carries it. I've looked there before with no luck. I had 'em hold the Oct/Nov issue for me. I assume the one with the year-end list is Dec/Jan? It isn't there yet.

Fastnbulbous, Thursday, 9 December 2010 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

aQ might get it?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 9 December 2010 18:27 (fifteen years ago)

They said the Young Gods cover with the list should be in U.S. stores in 2 wks. Does it have some good write-ups with each album?

Picked up Decibel last night, and both Ivar and Grutle of Enslaved put Motorpsycho in their top 5 (both also had Iron Maiden and Shining). It's not for everyone, but if you're into psych 'n' prog, I recommend it.

I gotta have respect for anyone who listens to more stuff than me (which seems to max out at 500 a year lately). I'd imagine if I had to listen to more than 1,000 new albums a year my habits would change and I would be less patient for growers, and more into stuff that spreads immediately with the hooks and the melodies.

"MY COMPUTER is the album of the year" wasn't even clever when Spin did it 10 years ago

Local Hardman (some dude), Thursday, 9 December 2010 23:02 (fifteen years ago)

there are plenty of artists at this point for whom 'the collected eps by...' has been replaced by 'the collected mp3s by'

lotta diamonds ... but prolly more display names (deej), Thursday, 9 December 2010 23:07 (fifteen years ago)

I think Cam1ll3 D0der0 is on some ironic ish with that. She's a Village Voice web editor and she calls herself a "Juggalo expert" on her twitter bio. She also wrote one of those big pieces about "lol look at the juggalos gathering".

did people ever refer to "the collected EPs by" an artist as an album or are you talking about stuff that actually was compiled/reissued on one release?

Local Hardman (some dude), Thursday, 9 December 2010 23:10 (fifteen years ago)

The process of recycling Styrofoam

The process of recycling Styrofoam involves feeding the collected EPS foam through conveyor belts into a shredding machine.

The shredded EPS foam is then transferred to a plastic extruder where the foam is exposed to heat and pressure to melt the EPS foam. Subsequently, the melted EPS foam passes out through a small outlet at the end of the extruder and solidifies into a continuous form.

This form of EPS can then be easily transported to the required factories for remolding (again using heat and pressure) into its new EPS products.

Check out this video on the Styrofoam recycling process.

fyi, camille's piece was really good in that it was one of the few that wasn't all condescendingly "lol juggalos"

SBin & The Witch (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 9 December 2010 23:24 (fifteen years ago)

That is true Whiney, I had her piece mixed up with another one until I looked at it again.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 9 December 2010 23:25 (fifteen years ago)

it was still basically "lol juggalos" but not terribly condescending in the process
