doesn't this go on for an hour?

I wish! It's 9 minutes long; I copied onto a C90 (five times on each side) so I could bliss out to it without having to rewind or flip the tape. (No, I was not using drugs or drinking when I did this.)

BO (DJP), Thursday, 9 December 2010 16:47 (fifteen years ago)

Also jjj I am pretty sure there wasn't one Anthrax song that we put on repeat but we definitely had mini Among the Living parties

BO (DJP), Thursday, 9 December 2010 16:47 (fifteen years ago)

Aphex Twin- track 3 (rhubarb) from Selected Ambient Works Volume II

or Funeral Music for Perez Prado - Nurse With Wound (not really fair since it's 30 something minutes long)

In truth though, I think the last song I listened to on repeat, but probably not for an hour, was "F.I.L.A." by The-Dream this summer.

Professor Respect, Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:36 (fifteen years ago)

xp yes! "The Diamond Sea"
also "Temptation" a bazillion times

Bjorn Cyborg (van smack), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:42 (fifteen years ago)

jeevves, Sunday, 12 December 2010 10:08 (fifteen years ago)

I was kind of close with "Karma Chameleon" at 12. Except my cassette player didn't have a repeat button.

You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Sunday, 12 December 2010 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

titular character (acoleuthic), Friday, 17 December 2010 22:04 (fifteen years ago)

i mean what part of 'dark-ambient classical noise-drone drum'n'bass epic in five seamless movements' doesn't make you slaver

titular character (acoleuthic), Friday, 17 December 2010 22:05 (fifteen years ago)

i was thinking of them tonight cuz i remember listening to them in a fruitless search for another 'mbv arkestra'

nax arrrrrgh (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 December 2010 22:08 (fifteen years ago)

tho tbh that description sounds like some terrible new goldie project

nax arrrrrgh (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 December 2010 22:11 (fifteen years ago)

dude I expect a full report in 40 minutes or so, also the final track 'if you treat us like terrorists...' kinda IS mbv arkestra revisited (not bullshitting!)

titular character (acoleuthic), Friday, 17 December 2010 22:14 (fifteen years ago)

already halfway thru first track

flying saucer attack were all time great

nax arrrrrgh (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 December 2010 22:17 (fifteen years ago)

i will check them out :)

the ramping sonic density of 'the dark' astounds and delights me so it figures that this dude's previous body of work will harbour delights

titular character (acoleuthic), Friday, 17 December 2010 22:22 (fifteen years ago)

Death Cabron For Cutie (admrl), Monday, 20 December 2010 03:19 (fifteen years ago)

"I Feel Love" is the only track I've definitely played for over an hour. But I've had occasion to play "Season of the Witch" and "Seven and Seven Is" roughly a dozen times running.

If it cannot be notated, then there is no nute. (Myonga Vön Bontee), Monday, 20 December 2010 14:58 (fifteen years ago)

I have xps, but only a loop of pts I and II. Don't care for the rest as much.

I do this all the time though. 'Baby It's Cold Outside' got it last night. I'm surprised everyone doesn't do it - nothing better than taking time to delight in something new or just brilliant.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 20 December 2010 16:49 (fifteen years ago)

Steinski - "Number Three on Flight Eleven"

69 65 51 46 (Ioannis), Monday, 20 December 2010 20:40 (fifteen years ago)

What satisfaction does one get from listening to a single track over and over? Seems like plenty of examples above - but i don't get it. Only a couple of times have I pressed the "repeat" button, but even then, could only tolerate a half-dozen replays at most. These are the only tracks I can ever recall playing reiteratively - although that Aphex Twin track up top sure is tempting.

Jeff Beck - Cause We've Ended as Lovers
J. Mascis - I'm Going Home
Will Oldham - I Called You Back

Pet Shop Boys, 'It's A Sin'

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Monday, 20 December 2010 23:03 (fifteen years ago)

I've played "Stone in Focus" for several hours on end — but I'm not sure if it counts as I was sleeping for most of them :D

=(^ • ‿‿ • ^)= (corey), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 00:45 (fifteen years ago)

I'm now remembering several occasions where I have played a single album over and over. Could have been something in the ambient vein like the Aphex track, but was likely something from Brian Eno's "incidental" works. By playing them for many hours I guess I was trying to approximate their artistic intent. Will I ever live in a future that actually sounds like the future?

...and when did Aphex get around to putting names to those "Selected Ambient Works"? I always thought they were codified by those funky symbols.

suspecterrain, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 12:28 (fifteen years ago)

the names are unofficial, made up by fans for the sake of discussion.

Bernard V. O'Hare (dog latin), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 12:53 (fifteen years ago)
