the wiz/curren$y mix was my favorite of the curren$y mixtapes but I tried Kush & OJ and couldn't get with a whole mix of just wiz. it was alright just ... too much I guess. their styles go good together imo.

as i just posted on the other thread, it's a big krit line, not currensy. i remembered wrong.

is there a rule that says every curren$y video must contain a shot of him driving past the superdome?

dirty *plop* (The Reverend), Friday, 17 December 2010 02:58 (fifteen years ago)

I really liked the first Pilot Talk but damn, Pilot Talk II is an improvement on all levels.

I liked the smooth production, but if there was a 'fault' at all with Pilot Talk, it's that sometimes the production was too relaxing and made me almost tune out the rapping. I think this feels more like a proper hip-hop album overall.

Curren$y brings a lot of tude too. "Fuck yo system, I get paid without it"....

think i'm maybe the only person who likes pilot talk pt1 better?

both are great though!

i think i'm just more of a beats >>>> rhymes guy

but that's why I prefer the second one

the track "elevator music" is better than any track on either pilot talk tho

gr8080, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 03:21 (fifteen years ago)

the non-album single he did w/ fiend was the best thing he did all year

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 03:21 (fifteen years ago)

I would probably agree with that if Fiend wasn't on it, don't like his verse... that beat is amazing tho.

I really like "Montreux" off of PT2, has a similar vibe to "Flying Iron". Also "Fashionably Late"

the nutwasher (The Brainwasher), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 03:26 (fifteen years ago)

i play that track with killa kyleon a lot, "4 hours 20 minutes". scrunch up yr face.

zvookster, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 03:35 (fifteen years ago)

i think i like PT1 a little better. not by much tho. to my mind each enhances the other, like halves of a double album...the sharper caffeinated "proper hip hop album" foregrounding curren$y's lyrics versus the hazy expansive potluck with more emphasis on beats

i dont think the sound of his voice even works w/ some of those beats on the 1st one tho

i dont think the beats are better on the 1st one -- certainly not for curren$y -- but i think there's def a lot more diversity in sounds which might be whats roping you dudes in?

lyrics is weak ... like clock radio similes (deej), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 03:40 (fifteen years ago)

well i'm always interested in what deej thinks, especially abt rap music so

gr8080, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 03:40 (fifteen years ago)

glad i could be of service bro! ill mention this again on gchat as well

gr8080, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 03:44 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, the diversity of sounds is def one of the things I like about pt1. the more focused production on pt2 may play more directly to curren$y's strengths, but the album feels a little more narrow as a result. just a little tho. i like em both!

swvl, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 03:49 (fifteen years ago)

i feel like there's one amazing album to be made from the two of these and that's the one i'm listening to and calling pilot talk

it Terribel !!! (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 04:35 (fifteen years ago)

First one has some great beats and great moments, but PT2 is so consistent and cohesive, definitely in the upper reaches of my albums of the year list.
BTW, I'm listening to the new Destroyer right now and thinking that PT2 is like a rap version of Kaputt - similar musical aesthetic. and yes, I just smoked.

I think it's this exactly. There's some fantastic beats on the PT1, but the ones on PT2 suit Curren$y consistently better.

i jsut watched this video for the first time...fiend looks like he's been living pretty well

i love how dude is a total rap nerd ... he drops so many references & has a pretty great / diverse selection of beats-from-rap-history & different styles ...

swvl, Sunday, 2 January 2011 01:01 (fifteen years ago)

i really like how he sometimes lets the beats ride out for way after he's finished rapping. he's definitely a guy who has a strong relationship with the beats he chooses; deej otm calling him being a rap nerd. sucks that other songs get cut short mid bar tho

ha. as an aging rawkus nerd, i really appreciate curren$y's ongoing nerdy shouts to mos def -- the respiration quote on 'fashionably late,' "the potency of the beat is consistent with the fact that mos did it"...

swvl, Sunday, 2 January 2011 03:50 (fifteen years ago)

i don't think shouting out your producer gets to count as nerdy. ("resperation" quote, sure)

tears of a self-clowning oven (The Reverend), Sunday, 2 January 2011 03:51 (fifteen years ago)

haha yeah ok. still feel like there might inherently be something a little nerdy about working with mos def to begin with. (i mean this as a compliment!)
