i was just reading a book-length interview of glenn gould where he really knocks the beatles. i definitely didn't agree with him, but one of his gripes about the band was their fading up of the instrumentation of the music over the vocals. apparently gould really liked 'big band' pop music recordings and petula clark. of course he also didn't really like mozart either...
― jeevves, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 10:06 (fifteen years ago)
Please please me, oh yeah, and fuck off too.
― ithappens, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 10:17 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, you could barely hear Mozart's singing...
― Mark G, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 11:06 (fifteen years ago)
On 'The Marriage of Figaro' the producer mixed Wolfgang's frestyle verse really low because it was wack. Some of the raps on the album 'Mo-zart' aren't bad though.

Gould OTM
― Ludo, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 12:15 (fifteen years ago)
gould disliked quite a lot of music, evidently. i mention mozart because like the beatles he created some of the most beautiful melodies ever written - and yet gould didn't like his music. it seems like counterpoint was much more of interest to him.off topic but reading a book of his letters at the same time, many of them were these extraordinarily kind responses to his fans.
also, fuck off, beatles.
