how does it rectify the gender politics with the fact that the music is creatively bankrupt horsecrap

didn't suggest that it made me LIKE the album more than i do - i think it's still largely disappointing given the level of raw talent and potential nicki has, although there are four-ish tracks i like ok on this, and adding in massive attack and one or two of the bonus tracks it makes for a decent EP.

lyrically she spends way too long talking about the gender politics and not enough time actually doing them. aside from the production, she doesn't even break out the voices on two-thirds of the album, and she never switches up mid-song. which...what is the point of that?

still maintain it's not a bad album for what it is - there are enough bloody tracks that piecing together a decent mini-album from them is easy. fuck the record buying public for making "massive attack" a flop and "your love" a hit though.

I will trust you if you tell me to get it but is there anything even remotely as good as "keys under palm trees"???

depends how you intend to get it, it only becomes worth getting when you take the 6 bonus trax into account (two of which - the best two! - are only available to non-americans like us if downloaded illegally anyway)

Yeah that's the one I always go back to, I always get surprised by how emotional the ending makes me.

it always surprises me how blasé nicki is on record about doing coke - like even on "girls fall like dominoes" on pink friday, when she describes her ideal woman one of her qualities is "she can sniff up a ton"

like it's par for the course for rappers to rap about doing weed and e on record, and about dealing coke obv, but how many actually go there re: doing coke? (and on a couple of lines that i assume are just nicki BSing, heroin too o_0 )

probably just because heroin isn't the kind of drug one can use casually without it noticeably effecting a professional life that involves writing and recording on a daily basis and constant public appearances with wig/outfit changes?

The bonus tracks are way better than most of the album. She should just stick to pitched-up dancehall samples, rave synths and air raid sirens and ignore all other production styles ever.

this album is really fucking boring

i got the version with the bonus tracks and of course those are some of the best tracks on the album, but all of the boring cookie cutter emo pop tracks are stacked on top of each other so I have to skip 7 tracks to get to another decent one.

I don't mind her going more pop for her debut but at least it could ahve been interesting. faux-poignant pop with cliche lyrics, meh

the "Moment 4 Life" beat is so dope but ugh her singing

So. Video isn't as amazing as it could have been, but I'm glad that her team have finally realized that all of the genuinely GOOD SONGS are on the bonus tracks and started releasing them, especially since this is a perfect summer jam.

I love how the first two or three couplets are at like 100 mph, kinda wish she went 'beatless' or 'acapella' (if that's the term) longer, kinda disappointed when the beat kicks in tbh

i agree this is a perfect summer jam. i think this is her first single with kinda corny pop-ish production that's been any good (as opposed to, say, "right thru me" which sucked) - and it's actually REALLY good. it will be an impt song in many middle school girls' lives.

"moment 4 life" was okay but nowhere near the perfect pop moment that "super bass" is - actually it took taylor loving it to make me realise that "super bass" is basically all about capturing pretty much exactly what taylor does on "you belong with me", "love story", "fearless", "hey stephen", that all-consuming thrill of a crush.
