i don't know why he would do this...pretty sure he makes enough money off his live shows that he doesn't have to mess with anything else.

surely its like why wouldn't he want to produce some relatively more original shit by doing some crappy Duck Sauce type thing??

talking as a biiiiiig fan of night ripper/feed the animals...All Day is kinda embarrassing.

Darren Huckerby (Dwight Yorke), Thursday, 18 November 2010 14:06 (fifteen years ago)

In what way? As someone who has listened to each of them once, I don't know that I could tell the difference.

She Got the Shakes, Thursday, 18 November 2010 14:13 (fifteen years ago)

Everything seems more obvious than before (yes, i know the whole GT shtick is really obvious anyway), some of the layering goes on for way too long, it just sounds really played out. I should give it a few more listens I guess, think I was underwhelmed by FtA on first listen too.

Darren Huckerby (Dwight Yorke), Thursday, 18 November 2010 14:15 (fifteen years ago)

I think this one is definitely weaker. Like, this is what people accused the first one of being, much more lazy. Night Ripper felt like someone really had spent a couple years painstakingly assembling this thing, working on lots of details and surprises, paying attention to how the samples would accentuate particular moments in the raps and so on... this is much more anonymous or something.

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 18 November 2010 14:43 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I don't entirely disagree with that.

wow, this is grate! where can i find some more hipity-hopity muzik like this?

hey look at me i'm a drunken asshole, how 'bout that huh? (Ioannis), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 15:33 (fifteen years ago)

Finally got round to listening to All Day. While I'll still defend Feed the Animals and the GT concept, this is very poor. There are no new ideas here, which is ok I guess, but those ideas are stretched out to fill songs that are almost twice as long as on FTA, and the structure and pacing of the songs are just far less compelling. And Jesus, the Imagine bit at the end is rancid.

seandalai, Friday, 26 November 2010 02:28 (fifteen years ago)

yup this is really bad, no idea how he could thinnk playing out each sample forever would not be really boring to listen to

samosa gibreel, Friday, 26 November 2010 02:31 (fifteen years ago)

think this record was designed more than ever to be played on a dancefloor to drunk people, and not to be listened to in your home

an album for if ever you get a gig dj'ing and you didn't want to actually think of what songs to put on

samosa gibreel, Friday, 26 November 2010 02:48 (fifteen years ago)

what would be wrong with him just playing this out every night?

calpolaris (nakhchivan), Friday, 26 November 2010 02:49 (fifteen years ago)

i mean his shtick beyond mere 2k2 freelance hellraiser stuff was the microarchitecture of his samples, hence the painstaking work between his lp releases

not going to be able to do that via ableton

calpolaris (nakhchivan), Friday, 26 November 2010 02:50 (fifteen years ago)

but what are we supposed to listen to

samosa gibreel, Friday, 26 November 2010 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

my based dark twisted fantasy

_| ̄|○| ̄|○| ̄|○ (dayo), Friday, 26 November 2010 02:52 (fifteen years ago)

Night Ripper = 41 minutes
Feed the Animals = 53 minutes
All Day = 71 minutes

Is his next record going to be like Have One On Me for the Four Loko set or what

The Dutch of Dukes, Friday, 26 November 2010 04:41 (fifteen years ago)

With the album being given away free, I wonder how much he's using it almost solely as a tool to promote his live shows. I wonder how much he's interested in crafting something like Night Ripper anymore, as though he'd rather just have a bangin' set to burn to CD and throw on at a party.

was thinkin about this---apparently he does everything in audacity? which, given the sheer density of his sampling, has to take for fukkin EVER. did he change it up for this?

BIG MUFFIN (gbx), Friday, 26 November 2010 05:38 (fifteen years ago)

well hell, maybe the samples are longer because he just can't be fucked anymore, and fair enough if he's using audacity.

Gukbe, Friday, 26 November 2010 05:54 (fifteen years ago)

audacious move

shirley summistake (s1ocki), Friday, 26 November 2010 07:34 (fifteen years ago)

and maybe he just wanted to make a good, solid party record that, you know, could be listened to for F.U.N., without him having to worry about it being mistaken as his latest friggin' high school science project?

but nah, that can't possibly be it, rite? i mean, cripes, man, wot wuz i even thinkin'?

this can't be true - there's just no advantage at all to using that for this kind of thing over ableton and similar. it's not like Burial where he deliberately wants things to sound slightly off here and there.

Noel 1 Kanye 10.0 (blueski), Friday, 26 November 2010 14:49 (fifteen years ago)

when he played at my uni and my mag did an interview with him I recall he used some arcane software to do this, though I can't remember any details beyond the fact that he uses a panasonic laptop instead of a mac cause panasonics are more durable? something like that

dayo, Friday, 26 November 2010 14:53 (fifteen years ago)

fairly sure he just uses winamp 2.xx and presses play

calpolaris (nakhchivan), Friday, 26 November 2010 14:55 (fifteen years ago)

I agree All Day sounds more like a snapshot of what his live set is like at the moment rather than a new "composition" that would form the basis of a new set. Still it's free, maybe we should think of it as more like a patchy mixtape release than an album with pretensions.

seandalai, Friday, 26 November 2010 15:41 (fifteen years ago)

I thought he used some archaic old pc .wav editor

shirley summistake (s1ocki), Friday, 26 November 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)
