Cats: the musical.

A Nairn, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'my kitten went to london' - kid 606 isn't there an old 60's garage tune called 'leave my kitten alone'? i've got a version by the sonics but i don't think they wrote it. there's also a song by milky wimpshake and the chorus goes "meow, meow, meow, meow, mee-ow!" in a suitably twee manner, but someone else wrote that as well. god knows who. there's loadsa twee pop songs about cats i imagine. i've got a mentalist casio glitch-core song called 'my cat is harder than yr cat' if that helps.

From the Onion AV Club Least Essential Albums of the 1990's list:

MC Skat Kat & The Stray Mob, The Adventures Of... (1991) The Adventures Of MC Skat Kat stands as the least essential album ever recorded by a sassy animated cartoon feline, surpassing even Garfield's 1991 album Am I Cool Or What? The rapping cat, who made his debut alongside Paula Abdul on the cheesy 1989 single "Opposites Attract," got his own 50-minute album a full two years later, allowing impatient Skat Kat completists the opportunity to hear him rock the mic on such tracks as "I Ain't No Kitty," "No Dogs Allowed," and "New Kat Swing."

Mr Swygart, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Cats, a Dutch band from Volendam featuring one Arnold Muhren (yes, he was a relation), were 'the house musicians for Ajax and the Dutch national team in the 1970s' according to David Winners 'Brilliant Orange- the Neurotic genius of Dutch Football'. Not bad.

http://www.rsub.com/thebluedot/borderequalszero/kittens/index.html Bah! No a-ha, plus someone sent me this link last year. C+

(It would have been a B if you could actually slap the kittens; nothing like animal cruelty to make the familiar seem funny.)

Dan Perry, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, my parents have an album by The Cats. Considering they aren't Dutch, that's quite impressive...

mookieproof, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 03:00 (fourteen years ago)

there's a formula

change one-syllable words to 'cat'
any names to cat's name
two-syllable words = "kitten"

etc

lawrence and the machine (electricsound), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 03:06 (fourteen years ago)

I sing reggae songs to my cat when I feed him, but I change the lyrics. For example, the Congos, "Row Fisherman Row": "Lots of hungry belly kitty cats on the floor / Millions of them!" or Jacob Miller's "Healing of the Nation": "Kitty cat has been good / so we give him him cat food / let them, let them know / it's the feeding of the kitty".
