Lex word-for-word OTM, alongside Just Jack this makes me seriously question certain peoples' right to music. ATTENTION ALL U 'STREET LAUREATES', UR FAUX-NAIF 'POETRY' IS THE MOST BONE-HEADED, UNLISTENABLE SHITE I HAVE EVER HEARD, AND UR BACKING TRAX AREN'T EXACTLY CORDON BLEU EITHER
― Just got offed, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)
the 'Caroline's A Victim' track really is bad yes.
― blueski, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 21:15 (eighteen years ago)
why, what have you got against dawn french?

The whole "awkwardly rapping my ever-so-perceptive observations of life as I know it on the street, in the club, and then back out on the street after I've been kicked out of the club BUT I'M REALLY SENSITIVE becoz I fancy him/her lol ;-) :):) haha but i's a serious artist 4 realz" schtick was copyrighted by The Streets a few years ago, wasn't it? And at least he did it with a modicum of natural charm (although I personally dislike his music). These people, though, are charlatans of the very, very highest order.
― Just got offed, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 21:23 (eighteen years ago)
they're certainly no Mansun!
― 696, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)
scorching ad hominem there, and now they're a step closer to reaching this year's FA Trophy final!

RIP Chad, heaven needed whatever it was that you contributed to Mansun

― M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)
ok i've read a few weekend on sunday pieces on this broad, but none of them even tried to describe her music. perhaps i will visit "my space" and figure it out for myself, but nothing her boosters or she herself have said recommend her. i'm guessing that her backstory will be revealed sandie thom-style pretty soon. she's a young'un so it's not her fault entirely, but the journalists who promote her are running-dogs.

i'll be interested if she does some more folky stuff. i seem to remember she sings well.
― Frogman Henry, Sunday, 22 July 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)
she's being produced by paul epworth. probably not going to be too folky?
― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Sunday, 22 July 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

album is pretty straight-up electro in parts.
― pisces, Sunday, 22 July 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)
my mum loves her.
― o-ess, Sunday, 22 July 2007 23:23 (eighteen years ago)
riveting!
― I know, right?, Sunday, 22 July 2007 23:40 (eighteen years ago)
shut your FACE. And what have you done today?
― o-ess, Monday, 23 July 2007 00:40 (eighteen years ago)
She is a terrible artist. That she was strumming a guitar 6 months ago and is now riding beats as an "Electro" artist proves that she is just a manufactured entity.
I am offended by the LeTigre comparison, they roll legit.
― Saxby D. Elder, Monday, 23 July 2007 03:13 (eighteen years ago)
I like "Foundations" like everyone else does...
But the kids are singing it ALL THE TIME!! and drivin me NUTS!
― Mark G, Monday, 30 July 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)
Oh and that Vashti pic above! blimey!
'foundations' would be an okay instrumental
― blueski, Monday, 30 July 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Monday, 30 July 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

― Saxby D. Elder, Monday, 30 July 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)
And so I get (the kids/wife) the album.
ah.
― Mark G, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 12:48 (eighteen years ago)

― Tom D., Tuesday, 14 August 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, we don't *have* to play it any more!
― Mark G, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 13:09 (eighteen years ago)

― blueski, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 13:09 (eighteen years ago)

and 'adele'.
my sister met jack penates (sp.). i worry about her.
― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Sunday, 2 September 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)
penate (with a wispy thing above the 'n') if my memory serves correctly. we had to promote this crap on our radio station. although in future i'll be strictly off-message as far as this sort of music is concerned.
― Just got offed, Sunday, 2 September 2007 10:50 (eighteen years ago)
Okay I am now mad because I bought this because I really liked "Foundations" and I haven't heard the whole album yet and this thread has made me afraid to.
― HI DERE, Sunday, 2 September 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)
saw this on telly this morning bittuh fittuh rubbish
― RJG, Sunday, 2 September 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)
I mean sounds like a bad catherine tate impression
― RJG, Sunday, 2 September 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)
Okay I still like "Foundations" a lot, even though I can see how the quaver in her voice could eventually make me want to kill.
― HI DERE, Sunday, 2 September 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)
Halfway through, she is an order of magnitude less tiresome than Lily Allen.

it is a bazillion times better than the dickhead song
― Jack the Dude-Kicker (HI DERE), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 22:16 (sixteen years ago)
I'm not familiar with the dickhead song but that new one sounds exactly like a lazy album track from a c. 1987 Brit Indie group.

― Jack the Dude-Kicker (HI DERE), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 22:20 (sixteen years ago)
TBF I don't like her voice or her lyrics so this is a bit of a no-win
― National Sockpuppet Helpline (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 22:21 (sixteen years ago)
then this new one, with one line of lyrics and very little of her voice, should come across as her best effort to date
― Jack the Dude-Kicker (HI DERE), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 22:24 (sixteen years ago)
It did! But she was starting from a v. low point on the graph.
― National Sockpuppet Helpline (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 22:24 (sixteen years ago)
I'm intrigued when artists try to completely change up their audience in these death of the industry times tho.

^^^ remoinds me of this Lou Reed quote after the commercial success of "Sally Can't Dance" - "This is fantastic — the worse I am the more it sells. If I wasn't on the record at all next time around, it would probably go number one."
― might seem normal (snoball), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 22:31 (sixteen years ago)
lol that is so much better than last time round, a pity it's not actually any good - i definitely would like to encourage kate nash to continue down this newfound path of "not bothering to write songs" though

hahaha
lex is pretty OTM though, I'd forgotten how precious and needy her album was and it seems she's gotten rid of that impulse by forgoing the actual songwriting process
― Jack the Dude-Kicker (HI DERE), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 22:52 (sixteen years ago)
haha that new song is amazingly bad
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 23 February 2010 23:12 (sixteen years ago)
haha I had pac's "temptations" playing when I saw that. made it even more lolsome.

She sounds like she's giving birth while trying to channel the 'spirit' of Courtney Love.
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Monday, 18 June 2012 14:59 (thirteen years ago)
the beginning of this is great
actually when she isn't screaming I really like this, and her screams only drag it down to "not gonna seek this out"

her new EP is out
it appears, after 1.5 songs, to be a massive bag of shit
― I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Monday, 26 November 2012 15:31 (thirteen years ago)
Is it the same kind of stuff as the 'Underestimate The Girl' track, or is it more in line with her earlier stuff?
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Monday, 26 November 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)
it's definitely in the new vein, only less imaginitive
― I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Monday, 26 November 2012 16:49 (thirteen years ago)
she's rather good on GLOW. Maybe that's what she should have been doing all along.
― akm, Thursday, 6 July 2017 16:57 (eight years ago)
weirdly, she is actually doing a nostalgia tour re her debut soon.
― mark e, Thursday, 6 July 2017 17:02 (eight years ago)
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p07ctstz/kate-nash-underestimate-the-girl
Underestimate the Girl is an intimate portrait of British singer-songwriter Kate Nash and follows her journey over several years in her pursuit to remain a creatively and financially independent artist. After being dropped by a major label, Kate learns (the hard way) how to navigate the music industry as a self-sufficient businesswoman and creative.
