A very few tracks by The Upbeats (aka The Beats) would work, and Pete Buck plays on some of them. But, they were one of the most maddeningly incoherently inconsistent bands I've ever heard. Look for the Buck-assisted track Just Another Pop Song.

Cretins. It's hard to believe Tom Petty was mentioned in only one line in this thread. Petty & the Heartbreakers -owned- "jangle" in the 80's and 90's. The first CD in his career span box set was called "The Big Jangle." One of the big Tom Petty stories is that Roger McGuinn heard "American Girl" on the radio and said to one of his buddies something to the order of "when did I do that?"
