A surprising number of your supposed old schoolers were actually released in the 90s but I'm too weak to identify them. Oh God, "Show Me Love", then. "You've Got The Love".
You really are a bunch of cheesy quavers, aren't you?

the double guitar lick = like a 'call and response', its instantly recognisable in pop linguistics and comforting as a result
the chord pattern - first three parts are the same, fourth and last one is the chord change - its like climbing a staircase to heaven and every fourth part is where you take that step up - the other three are the nice rest you have before repeating the process
the way Ben Diamond sounds like he's singing underwater, and he has a great distinctive voice

This list though is a good cross-section of what was going on at the end of the last century. 'Nuff respect to everyone who submitted old skool 'ardkore tracks for consideration.

Stardust is all about what isn't there, as much as what is, the guitar riffs are chopped up and stuck together again, it's like a mini funk rollercoaster in between each line, and then there's the drum break which is also the greatest thing ever, drains the colour out of the song and then pauses for breath, before letting back in all at once.

no, that would be "not forgotten" or djum djum "difference" which was kind of leftfield.
however, they deserve ultimate banishment from my head for "open up".

I'd have Afrika Shox or whatever it's called by Leftfield, off Rhythm and Stealth. I'd also like to say that whoever said that that first or second track off Leftism sounds like the Macarena, fuck you, you've ruined it for me forever!

Although the Billboard chart is tame, I found enough gems among the mag's list of the decade's #1 dance tracks per year.
