I don't know - maybe it's just the trailer but it looks like it's trying to be a broad comedy that falls flat on its face. I think the Bill Murray backlash is finally going to get off the ground.

And good job to whoever compiled the CD on not including Sigur Ros, not that "Starlafur" (sp) is a bad song, but it totally wouldn't fit on that soundtrack.

hey so folks, what are (in your opinion) the best articles about/interviews with wes anderson out there? i suppose even stuff that hates on anderson is ok. anything that has something interesting to say about his work.

i liked the nyer profile from a couple of months back, when he seemed bugged that slumdog millionaire had been successful, and that it was someone else's indian movie, rather than his indian movie, that was a success.

i just posted a wes anderson poll to ILE but it's disappeared. wtf.
― by another name (amateurist), Sunday, 4 April 2010 23:14 (fourteen years ago) link
have never seen slumdog, but the point was that w.a. seemingly saw all 'indian movies' as interchangeable, and that the public's hunger for exotica should have been met by his rather than another; their individual merits didn't seem to be a consideration.
― Earning your Masters in Library and Information Science is beautiful (schlump), Sunday, 4 April 2010 23:30 (fourteen years ago) link
if that's true it's embarrassing. are you sure he wasn't being tongue-in-cheek, like haha my indian movie didn't do as well as this other indian movie.
to be fair both films seem equally, if differently, exoticizing. if anything darjeeling ltd was less offensive than slumdog.

i've been googling and coming up empty: is there a film that uses steve marriott's 'give her my regards'?
it's not a well-known song, so why do i know it ==>> it must have been in a movie.

love that they meet at le select, which is classic retro-literary-tourist territory. wanderson shd make a film actually set in the first half of the 20th century imo.

This is decidedly not Wes Anderson's next movie--but maybe it should be the one after that?

I've been picturing 'The Great Wide Yonder' as Anderson's first cel-animated feature, done by the crew that did 'L'Illusioniste'/'Triplets of Bellville,' or that did 'The Red Turtle,' or that did 'I Lost My Body,' taking inspiration from 'Fantastic Planet'... Now I actually want this to happen...
