tbf mj cole is more of an urban - ie hip hop / r&b - dj

you're right. he played 2step only 50% of the set. even threw some commercial house that I almost couldn't tolerate

It just me, or is it much easier, in the US, to throw 2step into r&b sets than dance sets? I find that they almost always kill the vibe in the latter. I at least have to be playing as much r&b as dance to play 2step at all.

heard some juan's mixes. sound like generic tech-house to me. I'll pass.

what about frankie knuckles? maybe this is a no brainer but he'll be playing to a "mainstream" crowd in a high class club so I have doubts.

Just saw the Hawtin "Beyond EDM" tour, Hawtin was fine. The real disappointment was Kevin Saunderson.

Way too pounding and tracky for my tastes, especially for how early in the night it was.

Gaiser was surprisingly pretty good, better than Hawtin.

It was also fun playing "spot the grumpy old school techno head", they were the guys standing with their arms crossed in the middle of the dance floor.

I was actually really surprised at how hard edged everything was, went in expecting a bunch of M_nus ketted out minimal and got actual banging techno.

anyone has some advice about ben klock? personally I don't think I can stomach his brand of muscle (pun unintended) techno for 3+ hours straight.

Not really into mnml but I saw him play for about an hour at a festival the other year and he was pretty good, even though he was mainly using CDJs but sometimes he played a record, and when he did he would wave it in the air like it was a big fucking deal that he was actually playing vinyl

Saw Valentino Kanzyani at Ibiza Underground a couple of years ago. Would definitely see again. Deep, understated, minimal. Plenty of his mixes on Soundcloud etc..

Also Herodot, some of those guys can be severely hit and miss - depends what vibe they are feeling?

Ben UFO, #1 on my DJ wish list, is going to play in a neighboring country. To attend, I will have to spend approx. $250 (all in) and miss my cousin's engagement party. Worth it?

xp I've seen Ben UFO three times and it's been completely different each time - a boring time probably in that same one dimensional techno vein, a great time in the adventurous way you'd expect of him, and a really weird time when after hours of supports throwing out filthy dubstep he came on, cleared the floor with a couple of really skeletal tracks, then gave up and let someone else take over.
