one year passes...

anyone has seen ellen allien? how was it? thinking of catching her but heard some bad things about her beatmatching.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Saturday, 2 June 2012 09:32 (fourteen years ago)

idk - i wouldn't have particularly high expectation tho the last time i saw her (2009?) she was surprisingly ok

anyone ever seen mj cole? how was it?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 11:25 (thirteen years ago)

Watching him now. Looks like he doesn't beatmatch at all.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 5 September 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

booka shade dj set anyone?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 16 September 2012 07:52 (thirteen years ago)

booooring

the late great, Sunday, 16 September 2012 08:42 (thirteen years ago)

tbf mj cole is more of an urban - ie hip hop / r&b - dj

the late great, Sunday, 16 September 2012 08:43 (thirteen years ago)

you're right. he played 2step only 50% of the set. even threw some commercial house that I almost couldn't tolerate

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 16 September 2012 08:46 (thirteen years ago)

ehm, late great, by "boring" did you mean mj cole or booka shade?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 16 September 2012 08:47 (thirteen years ago)

booka shade

the late great, Sunday, 16 September 2012 09:04 (thirteen years ago)

It just me, or is it much easier, in the US, to throw 2step into r&b sets than dance sets? I find that they almost always kill the vibe in the latter. I at least have to be playing as much r&b as dance to play 2step at all.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 15 October 2012 01:54 (thirteen years ago)

what about the juan maclean?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 15 October 2012 11:42 (thirteen years ago)

green velvet, yes yes yes

juan maclean, if it's cheap

Crackle Box, Monday, 15 October 2012 12:25 (thirteen years ago)

The Juan Maclean live is amazing, Juan Maclean is a perfectly competent midtempo techno DJ

set the controls for the arse of your mum (sic), Monday, 15 October 2012 12:56 (thirteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

heard some juan's mixes. sound like generic tech-house to me. I'll pass.

what about frankie knuckles? maybe this is a no brainer but he'll be playing to a "mainstream" crowd in a high class club so I have doubts.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 11:40 (thirteen years ago)

Just saw the Hawtin "Beyond EDM" tour, Hawtin was fine. The real disappointment was Kevin Saunderson.

Way too pounding and tracky for my tastes, especially for how early in the night it was.

Gaiser was surprisingly pretty good, better than Hawtin.

Josiah Alan, Sunday, 18 November 2012 08:20 (thirteen years ago)

It was also fun playing "spot the grumpy old school techno head", they were the guys standing with their arms crossed in the middle of the dance floor.

Josiah Alan, Sunday, 18 November 2012 08:26 (thirteen years ago)

I was actually really surprised at how hard edged everything was, went in expecting a bunch of M_nus ketted out minimal and got actual banging techno.

Maurice Fulton, anyone?

Missed him sadly. Skream and Benga, anyone?

anyone has some advice about ben klock? personally I don't think I can stomach his brand of muscle (pun unintended) techno for 3+ hours straight.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:59 (thirteen years ago)

Not really into mnml but I saw him play for about an hour at a festival the other year and he was pretty good, even though he was mainly using CDJs but sometimes he played a record, and when he did he would wave it in the air like it was a big fucking deal that he was actually playing vinyl

paolo, Thursday, 16 May 2013 14:00 (thirteen years ago)

lol

why does Kanye say he was based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire? (sic), Thursday, 16 May 2013 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

Sven Vath waves records in the air but there I think it means "whooow I am really fucking high, feel the way the air curves around this and trickles through my fingers, hey I appear to have danced across the stage, where are the decks, I love you"

why does Kanye say he was based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire? (sic), Thursday, 16 May 2013 14:33 (thirteen years ago)

chris liebing?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 24 May 2013 01:16 (thirteen years ago)

I have 2 friends who absolutely love Liebing. If you're into 'proper techno' as they like to say, you should love it.

brotherlovesdub, Friday, 24 May 2013 01:26 (thirteen years ago)

nevermind, gonna catch arttu's vinyl only set instead. pretty psyched. thanks anyway.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 24 May 2013 03:07 (thirteen years ago)

is recloose good at DJ-ing?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 08:47 (thirteen years ago)

ime he's not going to blow the top of your head off and have you weeping wondrous tears of joy and release on the dancefloor, but he will keep a good mid-tempo boogie happening

¬╡▫ ▫╞⌠ (sic), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 14:33 (thirteen years ago)

"going to blow the top of your head off and have you weeping wondrous tears of joy and release on the dancefloor" - this needs to be in a DJ bio. Love it.

mmmm, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

who's the dj that's going to blow the top of your head off and have you weeping wondrous tears of joy and release on the dancefloor?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 6 June 2013 00:34 (thirteen years ago)

shut your mouth

¬╡▫ ▫╞⌠ (sic), Thursday, 6 June 2013 00:39 (thirteen years ago)

That's a serious question :|

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 6 June 2013 00:46 (thirteen years ago)

Valentino Kanzyani

roy, Thursday, 6 June 2013 06:43 (thirteen years ago)

(Should i see)

roy, Thursday, 6 June 2013 06:44 (thirteen years ago)

Saw Valentino Kanzyani at Ibiza Underground a couple of years ago. Would definitely see again. Deep, understated, minimal. Plenty of his mixes on Soundcloud etc..

mmmm, Thursday, 6 June 2013 06:53 (thirteen years ago)

Also Herodot, some of those guys can be severely hit and miss - depends what vibe they are feeling?

Ben UFO, #1 on my DJ wish list, is going to play in a neighboring country. To attend, I will have to spend approx. $250 (all in) and miss my cousin's engagement party. Worth it?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 1 January 2014 16:40 (twelve years ago)

correction: $150

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 1 January 2014 17:54 (twelve years ago)

Sven vath, anyone? Tracklists of his sets didn't impress me though..

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 2 January 2014 15:08 (twelve years ago)

so are you going to see ben ufo or what?!?

the late great, Thursday, 2 January 2014 18:30 (twelve years ago)

Yes! Hope it's gonna be the best $150 I've ever spent.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 3 January 2014 00:03 (twelve years ago)

Ben UFO was disappointing. I didn't come to see a one dimensional techno DJ and that's what I got.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 13 January 2014 00:17 (twelve years ago)

sven vath or john talaobt?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 24 January 2014 08:18 (twelve years ago)

xp I've seen Ben UFO three times and it's been completely different each time - a boring time probably in that same one dimensional techno vein, a great time in the adventurous way you'd expect of him, and a really weird time when after hours of supports throwing out filthy dubstep he came on, cleared the floor with a couple of really skeletal tracks, then gave up and let someone else take over.

Merdeyeux, Friday, 24 January 2014 09:01 (twelve years ago)

Skeletal tracks? Such as..?
