surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 20:40 (fifteen years ago)

thought u hated wiz?

sister soulja boy (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

i've never listened to him really, i talk shit about curren$y though. i decided to listen to him today since he got arrested, felt like a good time to check him out

kush & oj is pretty good. i kinda like him

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

i like the "Who Dat" beat, rapping ain't bad. really i just give J Cole props for being the only new rapper in 2010 who came out with something even slightly resembling what a rapper's debut single should sound like.

deej otm (some dude), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 20:43 (fifteen years ago)

that other J Cole single "Blow Up" is pretty decent too imo. he's basically in the pre-"Nothin On You" B.o.B. zone for me where i'm not excited about him but he hasn't done anything to piss me off or convince me he should be avoided yet.

deej otm (some dude), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 20:45 (fifteen years ago)

i quite like "who dat" and "blow up", which is pretty strong. basically agree w/some dude

(Not a pissed off question either, just honestly can't tell lol.)

altered boners (rennavate), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:20 (fifteen years ago)

im agreeing with you!!

lex otoh also reps for pill so we're coming at this from diff angles obv

big hoosalah aka the ghostrider (deej), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:26 (fifteen years ago)

For sure. And cool.

Pill is ok but nothing special.

altered boners (rennavate), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

pill has still never released an album so

hoy orbison (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:36 (fifteen years ago)

i don't think i'm the only person who reps for the first pill mixtape/second to an extent? i don't think he's ~built on them~ tho

lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

kinda think when you've made a song that's as amazing as "trap goin ham" and the rest of your output is solid-to-good with the occasional great moment, you're at least worth paying attention to/not dismissing

lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:40 (fifteen years ago)

he made two good mixtapes in a year and a couple terrific guest verses (the coastin remix = hard), people already writing a fella off for not being gucci mane

hoy orbison (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:42 (fifteen years ago)

ive already explained my issues w his rap style upthread. trap going ham is bad as the rest.

big hoosalah aka the ghostrider (deej), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

i rep for pill's Basket Case t-shirt a lot

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:44 (fifteen years ago)

(what i mean is otm whoever said they miss the days of just releasing a single. back when dudes had to just make sure that one song and its b side was dope didn't have to join in the stupid fucking arms race no matter the quality)

hoy orbison (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:44 (fifteen years ago)

^^^^otm, i have fond memories of many rappers who maybe only had a few hits and never a whole album worth checking, but those hits banged hard. mixtape culture has many positives but really everyone could stand to release much less music

lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:49 (fifteen years ago)

I agree with that. Rappers need to be putting out less music and working on their craft more.

altered boners (rennavate), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:53 (fifteen years ago)

If Pills whole career was Trap Going Ham b/w The Works Hard, Glass b/w We Outside I'd be fucking salivating over waiting for the album to drop. Instead I think he's already spread himself too thin.

hoy orbison (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:53 (fifteen years ago)

hmm never knew he had a gangsta grillz tape - anyone heard it/give a flying fuck?

hoy orbison (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:58 (fifteen years ago)

big hoosalah aka the ghostrider (deej), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 22:14 (fifteen years ago)

hoy orbison (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 22:16 (fifteen years ago)

those all sound like real pill lyrics

big hoosalah aka the ghostrider (deej), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

i suppose pill will never achieve the lyrical complexities of "party party party let's all get wasted/shake it for me baby girl do it buck naked"

Zombie Chekhov's Significant Hacksaw (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 03:28 (fifteen years ago)

since i am in my 'deej otm' guise at the moment all i will do right now is plead with you to stop before you get started on this path

haute couture wolf gang frill them all (samosa gibreel), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 03:53 (fifteen years ago)

yes because what matters is 'lyrical complexities'

why do indie fans get such a hardon for 'lyrically complex' 'rapping clinics' & shit like that? are you a big steve vai fan?

big hoosalah aka the ghostrider (deej), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 03:57 (fifteen years ago)

funny you should ask.

big steve vai fan (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 06:24 (fifteen years ago)

only indie fans rep lyrical complexity? sorry, i've known too many rap nerds to buy that.

sister soulja boy (The Reverend), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 07:20 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think I've ever dug pill just bc of his "lyrical complexity", nor is "lyrical depth" something I necessarily prioritise (hell0 you're talking to the nicki minaj fan here) (though it's not something I reject as a marker of quality either obv)

Didn't see deej's anti-pill arguments at the time, will check em when not in airport on stupid bberry
