an odd complaint when your job is writing about things arguably more trivial than the secret history of 'video phone'
cant stand that complex formatting either tbh but im not gonna act like ive got something better to be repeatedly clicking on

that bangladesh piece was great. lol @ m.i.a. being rude and bangladesh having to tell gucci his hook sucked.
whiney this is literally the first time i have ever seen a freelance writer claim they have no time to click on some internet pages! the point of our "job" is that we have time for that, save the mr businessman shit for, like, bankers and people who have to wear suits every day
― lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Monday, 1 November 2010 22:43 (fifteen years ago)
i'm behind again on this thread though, because...i don't have time to catch up on ALL YOUR POSTS EVERY DAY :(
i loved "country shit" earlier this year, liked the big krit mixtape it was off but nothing else is strictly necessary (ie "country shit" is the only one i'll actually play again)

*arguably less

guys the Complex ad click shit is a totally annoying and unjustifiable scam -- really it's not even a question of time, it's just irritating to ask someone to load 100 pages to read 100 short paragraphs or whatever, it's shitty web design, don't defend it
― some dude, Monday, 1 November 2010 22:49 (fifteen years ago)
i totally agree, esp when so much of their content is horsecrap like CURREN$Y'S GREATEST FOOTWEAR MOMENTS or they're just presenting an end of decade list like every other website in the world, but when it's decent stuff like this & it's only 14 "pages" i'll put up w/ it
but yeah it is indefensible -- whiney using the time argument is obv hilariously absurd considering 14 page loads take like a total of, idk, 30 seconds
― crocodile swag district - teach me how to dundee (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 November 2010 22:51 (fifteen years ago)
oh i'm def not defending that, it was annoying and each of the pages was horribly designed too (like...having to scroll down in a box within the page again? ughh), but really no freelance writer can ever get "grown-ass man with grown-ass job" pompous about what we do every day
― lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Monday, 1 November 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)
it becomes really easy to get precious about the seconds of your life ticking a way whenever you spend too many of them in a row watching the little spinning wheel icon on your screen while a page loads
― some dude, Monday, 1 November 2010 22:54 (fifteen years ago)

Popping off a one-liner on ilx /= dropping everythin and clicking through 14 four paragraph blurbs but thanks for being a dumbass about it

whiney is totally right and it is totally acceptable to make the "don't waste my damn time" argument when it comes to stupid time-wasting bullshit imo
― candid gamera (s1ocki), Monday, 1 November 2010 23:48 (fifteen years ago)
fwiw i think 'country shit' is topically pretty generic -- like oh, you dig candy painted cars huh? and youre from the country? how novel.
hes def more an 'album artist' than 'singles artist' tho so i dont know why al's getting aggy about k.r.i.t. He also only has two tapes.
― j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Monday, 1 November 2010 23:48 (fifteen years ago)
xxxpost i closed my account a while back. i only buy shit on amazon usually. should probably get back on the train eventually though just so i can send people pennies
― markers, Monday, 1 November 2010 23:48 (fifteen years ago)
imo krit is a rising talent who still sounds a lil bit too much like pimp c sometimes, which is both a good and bad thing -- good in that sounding like pimp c is awesome, bad in that he doesnt have his own lyrical style all the time to justify it. there are some banal-ass nappy roots style early 00s "we are from the south"-type rap lyrics on that album. hes better when hes gets 'deep.' hes also a good beatmaker
― j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Monday, 1 November 2010 23:49 (fifteen years ago)
i'm too lazy to open this whole thread to find when deej agrees w/ me saying that "country shit" is one of the best songs of the year

well obviously i was exaggerating a broader point that was not specifically about him, but yes, sorry i was so 'aggy'. i'm just saying like if the 'hook' for a guy like that is your tl;dr blog post that starts with a paragraph about T.I. then yeah i'd rather someone just say here listen to this song.
― dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:22 (fifteen years ago)
dude who wrote 50 paragraphs about loverman rap songs is calling my piece tldr
― deej, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:29 (fifteen years ago)
im enjoying your whiney-like celebration of ignorance for the sake of time saving
ignorance of a rapper whose biggest critical champion can reduce him to "sounds a lot like pimp c" is bliss
― dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:33 (fifteen years ago)
I think gorilla vs bear is his biggest kritical champion at this point
― OH AND ITS WAVVES (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:36 (fifteen years ago)
yeah im nowhere near its biggest critical champion???
― deej, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:40 (fifteen years ago)
like, even on this board
i thought you were the guy that plucked him from young buck's twitter and made him an internet cause célèbre?
― dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:43 (fifteen years ago)
i listened to, enjoyed, and wrote an essay based around his 1st mixtape before he had any coverage. i dont see how that = BECAME HIS BIGGEST CRITICAL CHAMPION
i also published a review of his album (that i dont think is tldr but who knows considering your hectic schedule) that you can read that gives him imo a pretty evenhanded critical look
― deej, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:45 (fifteen years ago)
fwiw, i like his deep stuff most but posted "county shit" cause people who are iffy about him all seem to love that song and bag on his deep shit. deej overstates his reliance on pimp c, which only really comes out when he is in "4 the sooouuuth"-banger mode, but he is otm that krit is much more of a albums artist than a singles artist. really a lot of what i like about him is his versatility, i don't think any one song can really do him justice.

OK, earliest champion, not biggest. and i shouldn't have said "tl;dr" when I really meant "the first 800 words of this piece aren't remotely about this guy at all, so that doesn't really compel me to listen to anything". thank you for helping me refine my point, it's really important that i not be inaccurate or mischaracterize you at all here, that would be terrible.
― dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:56 (fifteen years ago)
stop kvetching and just listen to his shit
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:59 (fifteen years ago)
"the first 800 words of this piece aren't remotely about this guy at all"
hey man, that's what pitchfork writers consider a "hard lede"
― OH AND ITS WAVVES (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 01:01 (fifteen years ago)
hey rev it wont work -- he went through the same spiel way back when we first started talking about k.r.i.t., i posted a couple songs at his request while he complained about having to download mixtapes before popping up months later to repeat the same shit

yeah tbh i'm sorry for kinda repeating myself, but kev asked directly if i had listened to the guy
― dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 01:02 (fifteen years ago)
"no -- there was a piece that was about more than just the artist in question so i couldnt read it"
― deej, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 01:03 (fifteen years ago)
xpost, yeah it's pretty fucking hilarious how i like get to the point??

― deej, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 01:04 (fifteen years ago)
now Al never needs to hear a note
def should have spent 800 words leading up to that going, "USUALLY when you think of MISSISSIPPI you don't think of DOPE RAPPERS..."
― OH AND ITS WAVVES (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 01:07 (fifteen years ago)
gotta say, it's kinda depressing to hear two actual, working critics clowning on other critics for writing a thoughtful & analytic longform blog post
