'tattooed weed smoking rapper' -- wale, just like gucci mane & waka flocka flame!
― j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Wednesday, October 20, 2010 6:09 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink
i don't understand these 2 posts, can you at least phrase your lame zings in a way that isn't totally confusing? i was just saying the knock against Wale's image is that he's a typical 'skinny jeans' hipster rapper, where Wiz has a cooler or harder to mock image of just being a laid back weed smoker with tattoos.
― underrated bobos I have honked (some dude), Thursday, 21 October 2010 14:30 (fifteen years ago)
musically, hes just more charismatic, which is the biggest difference imo. & makes up for wiz's biggest difficulties is that a bunch of his songs are really boring/bad/have lame beats & he doesnt have say currensy's lyrical depth to justify 1000 songs about how hes sleeping with & smoking up your girlfriend
but thats what makes a handful of his songs worthwhile ... as long as yr not bumping wiz long players its all good
― j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Wednesday, October 20, 2010 6:11 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink
i mean, i dont think hes a bad or boring rapper on a song-by-song basis -- like that track w/ killa kyleon off 'kush & oj' is just good, his rapping is good, fits the beat, good song altogether -- not 'in spite' of his rapping, but his rap style just works there
wale just always sounds adrift and personality-free
― j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Wednesday, October 20, 2010 6:12 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink
I guess I'm questioning the "charismatic" thing -- I don't hear it, he sounds as blank and devoid of swag as Wale to me, they both just kinda talk their shit without saying anything funny or memorable imo.
― underrated bobos I have honked (some dude), Thursday, 21 October 2010 14:32 (fifteen years ago)
like do Wiz fans like "Black And Yellow" or just kind of tolerate it? that shit is garbage.
― underrated bobos I have honked (some dude), Thursday, 21 October 2010 14:33 (fifteen years ago)
i dont think its garbage at all, its super catchy
― j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Thursday, 21 October 2010 23:34 (fifteen years ago)
idk i dont get 'blank' from wiz, just kinda 'boring/one dimensional'
like ... wiz has a really strong personality imo? its just a really really narrow one. or his personality is well defined
wale is almost the exact opposite: his personality is super weak so he is all over the place trying tons of different personas on & failing to click with any of them, just super generic spitter of modest 'technique' -- but like i have no idea what dude actually is about. wiz its crystal-clear

these arent zings tard theyre pointing out your confusing ass point -- youre all 'but musically they're basically the same!' immediately followed by 2 examples of their sartorial differences ...

i think "black & yellow" is kind of lame but as far as a pop crossover goes it's okay i guess

my point was exactly that they have a lot in common as vocalists but people don't seem to notice it because their look/image is so different.
― Long live smooth music..... ;) (some dude), Friday, 22 October 2010 12:58 (fifteen years ago)
i dont think there look & image is very different at all which i guess is where the confusion is here. are you really arguing that their image is the reason one is cool & one isnt? i mean wiz wears skinny jeans too. i dont think ppl are sleeping on wale because he got reviewed by pfork & doesnt smoke enough weed or something -- its bcuz he doesnt present a consistent persona
but weve basically said this i guess

"For hip-hop heads, so much of what you can find on XXL Bangers or DatPiff or YouTube is so profoundly dissatisfying, you start mistaking it for hip-hop and hating it with the zeal of any disappointed ol’ believer. Gucci Maine, Gudda Gudda, Weezy, Yung Jeezy, Wacka Flocka, Wiz Khalifa, Wale, Vado, the new Unimproved Rick Ross & Fabolous, way way too much god-damn Drake: you seriously ain't missing a pissing thing unless you crave yet more gold-plated groin gyration, stoned self-importance, the endless repetition of ad-copy rhymes & in-da-club shoutiness. Ugh. More than any other time in rap history it’s apposite to ask yourself - do you actually NEED this shit in your life? Cos if you don’t, it ain’t hip-hop, it ain’t music, just like music ain’t music no more. S’just a promotional device for the tour."Probably unsurprisingly, I don't find anything to argue with here.

i was kinda joking abt liking all those things, mainly bcuz im not really sure what 'gold plated groin gyration' is. it reminds me of kelefa making fun of dudes for worrying how "some rappers gild their phooey"

can i just point out yr siding w/ a dude who writes like this
That unwillingness to try and find a way round/through/above/against the grisly shitpile we’re dealing with when we listen to mainstream rap (coupled with the instant ease we all now have in hiding in our own personal playlists & undergrounds) has left us with nowt but an amused chortling; an ongoing dialogue of condescension/ironic-hyperbole with the lowest-common-denominator of rap, whilst the underground keeps flaming on unheralded.
& ppl say we cant understand gucci
