Last night, The Body were kind enough to test the structural integrity of the building that my record store is in. The building is sound. Thanks, guys!

(oh and if any of you get a chance to see Wolvserpent live, GO!)

To help out those making EOY lists I've revived Mordy's Metal Listening Club - New Albums Every Monday
and we should pick all 2010 albums on it for the rest of the year.
If anyone wants to join in/volunteer please post on the thread.

Holy crap are Christian Mistress good live! Outstandingly tight, outstandingly awesome. Touring all through the month and totally worth catching if you can. Boston, then Providence, NYC, Philly, Baltimore, etc.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 11 October 2010 07:13 (fifteen years ago)

ok i mean this is just everyone otm but i'm working my way through the enslaved record today and it is just really fantastic--probably the best metal record and one of the best ten records i've heard this year.

even the things they do that i'm not super into, like the clean singing and some of the prog bits, are so fully thought out that they're inarguable. and i love how thick and defined the guitars are--like you can really hear every pickstroke on some of the riffs.

Seems I always miss something on my best so far list, and here's another slept on record: Across Tundras - Old World Wanderer. It's seriously heavy, if not seriously modern metal; kind of a Crazy Horse of Paul Bunyan proportions. Easily one of the best things I've heard this year and a great autumnal album.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 11 October 2010 20:57 (fifteen years ago)

Wonderful album, that one. I've been into them since their first record, but Old World Wanderer just might be their best.

A. Begrand, Monday, 11 October 2010 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

I think we're the two enthusiasts on here Adrien. Such a great record, and perfect for a chilly New England day.

Phil just tweeted that Wingo has left The Sword and all dates are cancelled. Totally bummed as I was hoping to catch them next week.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 11 October 2010 21:04 (fifteen years ago)

Didn't even know that Across Tundras existed; I liked the last thing I heard by them, though.

The Sword news is very bad indeed. He was that band's not-so-secret weapon.

Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Monday, 11 October 2010 21:05 (fifteen years ago)

He is so good on Warp Riders in particular - his anchor allowed them to open up their sound.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 11 October 2010 21:06 (fifteen years ago)

Trivett brought a terrific sense of groove to the Sword's music from the get-go, that's for sure. Hope his replacement can equal that.

A. Begrand, Monday, 11 October 2010 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

FYI, Across Tundras is giving away the album as a free download if anyone's curious to hear it.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 11 October 2010 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

So who else has heard the new TesseracT EP? This band pushes all my metal fan buttons: classy, a touch of prog, the ubiquitous Meshuggah influence, and an ability to creat actual vocal melodies rather than doing lazy hardcore screams over dexterous arrangements. Superb 28 minute CD, this one.

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 12 October 2010 07:46 (fifteen years ago)

Seeing Fauna, Krallice, and Earthless in one weekend was sure a treat. Me tired.

Handbills and stickers discovered in the bathroom at Fall Into Darkness:

I think I finally made it.

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 12 October 2010 21:17 (fifteen years ago)

Which Sword guy left???? Say its not the drummer

Zeppelin to Howlin Wolf: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 12 October 2010 21:19 (fifteen years ago)

Er, its the drummer.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 12 October 2010 21:21 (fifteen years ago)

lol nate.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 12 October 2010 21:25 (fifteen years ago)

Goddam it. This Warp Riders thing kicks all sorts of ass. I think it was Phil who said that there is a huge Thin Lizzy vibe on it: that's totally true.

Zeppelin to Howlin Wolf: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 12 October 2010 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

Haha, wow, Nate.

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 12 October 2010 22:14 (fifteen years ago)

Listening to the new Gnaw Their Tongues for the first time and I'm stunned. I liked the last one (once it made the year end poll and I finally heard it) but this is spectacular. Easily one of the best things, metal or otherwise, I've heard this year. Might just be the meds I'm on at the moment but this is seriously creepy majesty.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

EZ S, did you get that in a package with the Nekrasov album? because I listened to the first 2 tracks from that'n last night and damn near got my head took off. amazing.

drawl the whine (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 15:26 (fifteen years ago)

No, I borrowed the promo off the metal buyer at my local store and was getting ready to order it from Crucial Blast today. So I should order the Nekrasov too?

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 15:30 (fifteen years ago)

Gnaw Their Tongues is great. Are they one of the few things the metal thread unequivocally agree on?

Also in the 'kind of BM' frame, the Murmuure album is awesome. Sort of like if Zombi were secretly a BM outfit.

It would have been better with burger sauce (aldo), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 15:41 (fifteen years ago)

I've been really enjoying the new Gnaw Their Tongues as well, I already like it more than the last one. Should give the Nekrasov a spin too...

A. Begrand, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 17:40 (fifteen years ago)

New Motörhead album in January. Apparently it's called The World Is Yours.

Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 19:29 (fifteen years ago)

Nice! Their last three albums have been great fun.

A. Begrand, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 19:37 (fifteen years ago)

Anyone like the new Intronaut album? It has some clean vox apparently.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 21:14 (fifteen years ago)

so cosmic hearse slowed "ride the lightning" down to 33 rpm and suddenly it's a lot heavier and doomier

like

"ride the slightly slower lightning"

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:49 (fifteen years ago)

the slowed down title track almost sounds like something off the new sword record

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

have only checked the 1st two tracks so far. they were pretty facemelting I have to say

drawl the whine (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 23:02 (fifteen years ago)

To tie it all together the Cosmic Hearse guy is Aesop Dekker, the drummer for Ludicra and Agalloch, and I guess now Worm Ouroboros too. Super nice gent as well.

Thanks aero - I'll check myspace and such to get an idea if Nekrasov will be my thing before I finish my Crucial Blast order.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 23:39 (fifteen years ago)

omg @ that sticker!!

(♥_♥) (roxymuzak), Thursday, 14 October 2010 05:47 (fifteen years ago)

Pretty sure Aesop just posted the slowed down Metallica tracks that had been circulating for the last few months. I know I heard the 33rpm Master of Puppets played between sets at a show not too long ago and was very much enjoying it.

Nate Carson, Thursday, 14 October 2010 08:05 (fifteen years ago)

fair enough

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 14 October 2010 09:46 (fifteen years ago)

Continuing the werewolf theme:

sounds like Dream Theater (J3ff T.), Thursday, 14 October 2010 23:37 (fifteen years ago)

Aldo: I love Gnaw Their Tongues. I think that album or Barn Owl's Ancestral Star or The Body's All The Waters... will be my fucked up/esoteric/art metal album of the year. I like the way that by going even more like 'classical' music, Mories has kind of made it even more evil.

Duran (Doran), Friday, 15 October 2010 01:24 (fifteen years ago)

So the new Weapon album is the best Canadian metal album I've heard in quite some time. A big improvement over the debut, which wasn't too shabby in its own right.

Awesome! Also, pre-ascension-of-Icke, you've got Axegrinder's "Rise of the Serpent Men" LP and Dream Death's "The Elder Race."

I'll have to get you guys the lyrics I wrote to 1997 Witch Mountain song "A Power Greater." It's all about our Reptilian forefathers.

CELESTE!!!! Jesus.

reallysmoothmusic (Jamie_ATP), Friday, 15 October 2010 16:11 (fifteen years ago)

If Jamie is admittimg that readers of this thread should vote for the Celeste album in EOY then I can only agree. A brilliant record.
