what happened to that Spector movie with Tom Cruise in it?
― Lazarus Niles-Burnham (res), Friday, 8 October 2010 19:30 (fifteen years ago)
Too bad they won't CGI Pacino into a younger Spector so we could get these over-the-top scenes where Pacino/Spector flips out and rages trying to get the Wall of Sound just right.
― Cunga, Monday, 11 October 2010 00:13 (fifteen years ago)
oh my fucking god please, please, please let there be a scene where pacino wears a massive blond afro please please please please please pleeeeeeeeeeease

I'm currently watching "The Agony and the Ecstasy of Phil Spector". Mostly I'd like to hear/read about his sessions with Leonard Cohen for Death of a Ladies Man. Are there any good books or website writeups about them?
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 20:23 (fourteen years ago)
it gets a couple pages in Mark Ribowski's bio - not too in depth iirc but summarizes the more famous anecdotes about him being uncooperative and sequestering the tapes out of Leonard's reach, plus Ginsberg and Dylan showing up for "Don't Go Home With Your Hard On". But yeah, I am very curious about it as well.
I wish this was on youtube

The footage of him in the 70's at that pool table is amazing. Where is that from? I want to see the whole thing.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 20:47 (fourteen years ago)
wait now I'm watching something that's clearly from the 2000s but is tagged as being from the 80s wtf

I disagree. It's not spot on, but it's an approximation of his voice from the 2000s. Certainly doesn't sound like his voice on the Christmas albums, yeah.

Kinda amusing in light of recent events that at 1:02 there's a sign that says GUN CONTROL NOW and at 1:04 "From Writer & Director David Mamet."
― Gollum: "Hot, Ready and Smeagol!" (Phil D.), Tuesday, 5 February 2013 20:17 (thirteen years ago)
Eh, still sounds like 70% Pacino and, I dunno, less than 30% Spector.

David Mamet might be crazier than Spector at this point. At least Spector likely knows that he shot her.

i remember reading something a long time ago about how cameron crowe's spector movie was running into problems because they 'couldn't figure out how to end it.' this was pre-2003.

"Mamet, the writer, has publicly stated that he feels Phil Spector is innocent and should not be in prison," says spokesman Ed Lozzi. "We fear that he will rewrite history and portray Lana Clarkson as responsible for her own death. That is not acceptable, and if he does so, there will be consequences from us."
What, are you going to shoot him then?
