Electric Wizard and Agalloch are high on my "excited for" list and will probably make it if they're anywhere near the last records from each band. Ended up being quite a year!
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 14:20 (fifteen years ago)

Waking the Cadaver, Beyond Cops, Beyond God
trollin?
Nope. I wasn't expecting anything at all from it, 'cause they were seriously one of the most inept bands I'd ever heard. But somehow they got whipped into shape and while they're not pathbreaking or anything, it's a solid death/grind record.

Seeing Triptykon here in Cambridge Thursday night. Looking forward!

― glenn mcdonald, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:18 (fifteen years ago)
hmm. actually haven't heard it myself. just the older material, and yeah, inept is right.
in any case, the phrase "beyond cops, beyond god" is seriously funny to me for reasons I'm having trouble articulating.
― original bgm, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:23 (fifteen years ago)
didn't even know there was a new blut aus nord record this year! memoria vetusta ii was my fave of 2009, so I have to hear that one.
― original bgm, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:24 (fifteen years ago)
Enslaved and Agalloch will place very high on my 2010 list. Christian Mistress has crept up and up since June to the point where it's an easy top ten for me. The new ones by Weapon and the Crown are fantastic as well, a couple of potential late additions.
There's been a wealth of good metal records this year...
― A. Begrand, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:35 (fifteen years ago)
Dont forget Dawnbringer
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:39 (fifteen years ago)
Yep. And Sahg and Slough Feg. It's been an amazing year for traditional metal.
― A. Begrand, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:40 (fifteen years ago)
still not heard slough feg or agalloch or electric wizard or .... damn you journalists
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:42 (fifteen years ago)
I think for me the top ten of it is going to be Maiden, Electric Wizard, Cathedral, The Body, Gnaw Their Tongues, High On Fire, Cephalic Carnage, Kylesa, UFOmammut, Celeste.
Not far away from this for me either.
― It would have been better with burger sauce (aldo), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:46 (fifteen years ago)
oh hey guess who just found out today that the High On Fire/Torche/Kylesa show in town was last fucking night

― I'm gonna mention ilxor in everyone of my posts until I get dn'd (ilxor), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:14 (fifteen years ago)
so far it's christian mistress and ludicra at the top for me, with kylesa, the torche ep, enslaved, and the body not far behind and agalloch and slough feg expected to be right in the mix. still haven't full absorbed the new cathedral.
going through itunes just to remind myself about 2010, the secret might get in there, along with black breath, bison b.c., and high on fire. i really dig "circle the wagons," too.
― mte, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)
next question show wise for me is how willing am i to pay dimmu borgir for my opportunity to see enslaved
― restorin' my damn eyes (jjjusten), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)
my usual comp attempts have come up empty because its at a bar that (up until now) mostly does biker blooz and hippy jam band crap urrrggghhhh

like as in if you were ever wondering if Dread Zeppelin was still touring you could check this place because they seem to be playing there every other week
I am mulling over whether to see the Wino solo show or not. Then Supersonic in a fortnight.

I'm going out Sunday to see Christian Mistress and Thrones. First show in a while.

Memoria Vetusta II was mine, too. I previewed the new one and, I don't know if it is a re-release of old material or if they are completely out of ideas or what, but I found it really really boring compared to... well all of their earlier work. I listened to it four times and nothing stuck.
― get off my lawn (rockapads), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 21:46 (fifteen years ago)
If you go to Supersonic, I'm doing a daily radio show around tea time, interviewing Michael Rother in the theatre and DJing the aftershow party on the Sunday.
None of these things will necessarily be any good. Well, whenever I've done the aftershow it's usually gone down a storm actually. It's like when you get a bunch of people who've been drinking, taking drugs and listening to stuff that sounds like Merzbow or Scorn for three days, the second they hear Run To The Hills they go apeshit.
Really if you go to Supersonic just make sure you watch Factory Floor. Love that band. Literally just got in from watching them in SW London this evening. Can't hear anything.
― Duran (Doran), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 22:29 (fifteen years ago)
Was intending catching up with you at some point - have managed to book the Paragon this week which means I guess we should run into each other.

"I'm going to make a run to Best Buy and pick up a couple things I never got around to checking out (if they have them), including Ludicra"
Jeff, let me know if you need a promo. I'll hook you up man. Ludicra's The Tenant should be on everyone's top 10 list because it's one of the ten best records to come out this year.
Still fleshing mine out but undoubtedly includes Enslaved, Cathedral, Ludicra, Agalloch, Christian Mistress, and Wolvserpent.
― Nate Carson, Thursday, 7 October 2010 08:54 (fifteen years ago)
I definitely should give the new Krieg a listen before making any list. Man, I'm now reminded of Winterfylleth, Woe, and The Howling Wind. Too much good stuff this year...
― A. Begrand, Thursday, 7 October 2010 09:26 (fifteen years ago)
Listening to the new Sweet Cobra. This definitely has a good shot. Also considering adding these to my list:
Alcest - Écailles de luneExodus – Exhibit B: The Human ConditionTarja - What Lies Beneath (yeah, I know, but it's really good)Armored Saint – La RazaTweak Bird - Tweak Bird (fans of Melvins and Big Business should really check these guys out)Iron Maiden - the Final FrontierBlind Guardian - at the Edge of Time

I've been spinning the new Withered a lot the last few days.
― Nate Carson, Thursday, 7 October 2010 22:56 (fifteen years ago)
I'm really liking the new Black Mountain, but I'm not really sure if it's "metal" enough for decibel, even though In the Future made the list a few years back.

OK, TGW and Triptykon are just on another level. Hearing protection is good, but I feel like I ought to have on some sort of body armor for the low frequencies. Warrior looks like he's still not sure exactly why he came down from his secret fortress, and like maybe these stories and groans are less for our entertainment than to renew the wards against the world so he can go back again.
― glenn mcdonald, Friday, 8 October 2010 03:54 (fifteen years ago)
Corpsepaint looks dopey. Tom Warrior looking like he's older than the rest of his band put together is rather scarier.
― glenn mcdonald, Friday, 8 October 2010 04:05 (fifteen years ago)
I've only really taken an interest in metal over the last couple of years, so I'm still pretty ignorant on the subject, but I'm really liking Nachtmystium, The Body, Black Tusk, Black Breath, Dawnbringer, Christian Mistress, that Boris comp, Yakuza, Zoroaster, Ludicra, Kylesa and the Torche EP. I also love the Shining and Daughters albums, although I don't know if you guys would actually count them as "metal" or indie, punk, whatever. One album I'm really surprised hasn't been on everybodys' lists though is the Harvey Milk album; surely that's metal? Regardless, best album of the year.
― Moogle, Friday, 8 October 2010 11:12 (fifteen years ago)
very much enjoying A Forest Of Stars 'Opportunistic Thieves Of Spring' at the moment. And love their website http://www.aforestofstars.co.uk/ - wasted a good half-hour here just moving stuff about.

My other review of last night's 1349/Triptykon show, as syndicated on Twitter:
10:05pm Not sure: is 1349 guitar guy SUPPOSED to look like a badger?
10:06pm Also, from this angle can't tell if Reaper bass dude has powdered his beard or is wearing fake chin.
10:13pm 1349 in brief: look like guys uncomfortably too old for trick-or-treating; sound like glaciers planning vengeance next ice age. But fast.
11:14pm I feel like half of the people at this Triptykon show might work at my company, just in some secret subbasement I've never even heard of.
11:46pm Some elves stay because it's too fun being immortal among the mortal, some because it's too terrifying being alive in the absence of death.
12:00am My largest earthquake was only 6.2, but this Triptykon show is more physical than that. At least this time I'm wearing pants.
12:11am Triptykon makes much of the rest of dark metal look like cargo-cult effigies done by people with poor memory for detail and no patience.
9:15am Today's memento vivere: wearing the shirt from last night's concert, like I would have when I was 16.
― glenn mcdonald, Friday, 8 October 2010 13:29 (fifteen years ago)
Aldo there was a brand new Harvey Milk album out earlier this year.
