Have you ever seen them? If not, you have to catch them at least once; if you have, then hmm.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 April 2007 20:27 (nineteen years ago)

never seen 'em.

i think i might also be taking a final that morning??

river wolf, Monday, 9 April 2007 20:30 (nineteen years ago)

That could be an issue.

At the very least, they do tour over here every chance they get, but you never know which tour could be the last, so.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 April 2007 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

$20 CDRs - c/d?

Steve Shasta, Monday, 9 April 2007 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

So long as you only buy one at a time. (I see it's vinyl this time out.)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 April 2007 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

$20 for a CDr is mad whack. $20 r@re lathed shit is ok tho

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Monday, 9 April 2007 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

Acid Mothers Gong at Victoriaville this year...also Keiji Haino/Merzbow, Melvins, Zorn solo... odd-numbered years have had good lineups lately. Wish I could make it this year, but no go.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 9 April 2007 21:56 (nineteen years ago)

Rock Hardy: That sounds amazing. Wish I could go, too.

novaheat, Monday, 9 April 2007 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

Here's the full lineup: http://fimav.qc.ca/en/2007/programmation/
It would definitely be worth the constant aroma of cow shit for five days this year, but my money is pledged elsewhere.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 9 April 2007 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

YES. April 21st. Asheville, NC. 10 minutes away from the venue.

Sum Fitch, Monday, 9 April 2007 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

Sum Fitch, if i can fit it into my work schedule, i'm definitely going to that one too. FAP?!

modestmickey, Monday, 9 April 2007 23:58 (nineteen years ago)

Very, very good show. High spirits and humor and brain melting fuzz, so no change there then. "Baby Pink Lemonade" and "La Novia" made the usual appearances but these were probably the best versions I've seen of 'em so far.

Picked up the split tour release from their Japanese tour last month with Trad, Gras och Stenar, new studio tracks from both. Will listen to it here in a bit.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 April 2007 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

"Pink Lady Lemonade," rather. Was too early.

So far this split release is great! And is an actual CD rather than a CDR and only costs $15, for those who care -- almost an hour long, 3 Trad Gras tracks, 2 AMT. Apparently only 500 copies made so if you like both bands I'd say grab this as long as they're selling it.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 April 2007 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

wow, i wish trad gras was on the us tour

am0n, Saturday, 14 April 2007 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, Mammatus are an okay band but I admit not the end of the world for me.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 April 2007 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

Dear all of my friends & colleagues,

I'm terribly sorry and very sad to tell you this, but we must cancel this time ZENI GEVA tour.

Because my mother was suddenly felled by a brain hemorrhage at the night of April 3rd and she has been still in the hospital getting intensive care at ICU. Fortunately she escaped death, however the situation doesn't allow premature conclusions and still there're so many things to do. Of course, this is totally unexpected and very very shock to me. I am only her son, I am the only one in charge of looking after her and take responsibility for all of her life. Mother is not just a one of a family members, you know. At this moment it's absolutely impossible for me to leave my mother behind and go to Europe for 1 month. At this moment I cannot think of anything but taking care of my mother and wishing her recovery. I must stay here and look after my Mom.

I want all of you know that I was really looking forward to this tour and really excited and ready to "rock" with very strong & high motivation. I've never thought if I would cancel the tour at all. But in this situation here now, I have no choice. I hope you understand. I'm terribly sorry for any & all inconveniences and troubles may be caused by this cancellation.

Please accept my sincere apologies from the bottom of my heart.
I'm sorry again and thank you very much for your understanding & support.

Sincerely regards,

kk null

Terrible news. Hope she recovers.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 15 April 2007 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

see, noize dudes are gd to their moms

Ward Fowler, Sunday, 15 April 2007 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

amt were pretty gr8 live. cotton casino on theremin (what happened to the crazy chain-smoking i heard about, she didn't light up once) and old gray-haired dude were cool to watch. opening band = awful

merch table lols: neckless fucked up fender guitar body with sign saying "kawabata's broken guitar! played on american tour! $400!!!!" there was also a pickguard with some scribbling on it being $$$old

am0n, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

cotton casino on theremin

Uh, no; not unless there's been some bizarre mid-tour switch. Check the current band lineup post some distance above.

kawabata did this thing where, at the end of a song, he hung his feedingback guitar on one of the overhead speakers..

-- peter smith (plsmith), Friday, June 18, 2004 8:55 AM (2 years ago)

Does anyone know much about AMGG? Am thinking of going to the gig here next week, but it clashes with a baseball game we're already planning on, so it'd have to be good to be worth going...

toby, Thursday, 30 August 2007 23:27 (eighteen years ago)

i know that AMT is awesome live and Mani is a killer drummer

lol, i was at that show before i even knew there was an ilx or a jw. iirc Makoto jammed his guitar into the ceiling at the end of a 30 minute pink lady lemonade and it kept ringing some chord for quite a while.

Hard to get excited about them live still :(

Yeah, I love them and all but this time around I'm not as jazzed.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

I would rather see Danava or SubArachnoid Space than AMT. Any day.

Nate Carson, Thursday, 24 January 2008 07:19 (eighteen years ago)

The Guru Guru drummer guy was fun to watch last time though...

but dude, they are awesome live, far better than on record. And they rocked when I saw them again late last year, just when I was thinking that maybe I had seen them sufficiently often.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Thursday, 24 January 2008 13:17 (eighteen years ago)

i'm really interested in American roots music and Country music in these years
.

yikes. be very afraid.

Kawabata's blog is a nice surprise. he comes across as very down to earth, very cool, just another music-loving dork who can't keep his enthusiasm bottled up, be it for Jeff Beck or for some Frog-rock obscurity. dispels some of the strong misgivings i've had about AMT's relentlessly collector-baiting promotional tactics. K clearly just loves music and gets off on sharing that love. no crime in that. and, huh, he can expresses himself pretty well in English. so what's with this "sorry - no speak Engrish" front AMT put up whenever they come to town?

Mr. Hal Jam, Thursday, 24 January 2008 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

So people leave them alone?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 January 2008 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, they don't get to have any privacy, they are rock stars, after all.
I know that they would never stonewall any pretty American girls that may want to chat after a set. Who needs another psych geek talking at you?

am0n, Sunday, 23 March 2008 18:04 (eighteen years ago)

Well that's good -- turns out they'll be at Terrastock (yeah, big surprise I know) so I'll catch them then.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 23 March 2008 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

Danava fucking suck

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 23 March 2008 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

Are these guys ever not on tour? Every time I check the paper to see who's playing they are always in town. Unless they play Detroit twice a month every single month or something.

filthy dylan, Sunday, 23 March 2008 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

Ned - one guy from Acid Mothers will be at Terrastock. You probably know that, but just to clarify.

Really have to say -- having seen them various times over the years, last night's show was easily one of their best. Last couple of times had almost been 'standard' AMT, but while it was still very much them in full effect there were more new/random song choices and experiments, and even "Pink Lady Lemonade" got a bit of a redo via two different versions, the first starting off on acoustic guitar.

Also, Kinski killed as per usual so show up early if you have the chance to see them too here on the West Coast. Sonic Suicide Squad were all right enough, noise/free jazz roar but I think Zu works in the same field with better focus.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 4 April 2009 18:50 (seventeen years ago)
