Herman - I'm pretty sure bumping all those random metal threads won't get you a separate board.

Any big releases tomorrow?

Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Tuesday, 28 September 2010 01:27 (fifteen years ago)

Thank unperson. Some stuff I'm curious about - I'll see if any of the guys at my local store are buying copies - they're usually pretty good about letting me listen.

Glad to see "Until the Light Takes Us" is coming out as I do want to see it.

hoos wears orange camo pants ffs (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 28 September 2010 03:01 (fifteen years ago)

Almost as excited for the Enslaved as I am for the new Neil Young, but that may be for another thread (although, after hearing some snippets, it isn't COMPLETELY off-thread).

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 28 September 2010 03:03 (fifteen years ago)

wait, Neil Young's releasing a vaguely metal record tomorrow?

markers, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 03:04 (fifteen years ago)

Not really "metal", but an album produced by Lanois that is just Neil and an electric guitar, with tons of layers and Lanois loopy production tricks. Sounds really awesome.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 28 September 2010 03:09 (fifteen years ago)

wow, I'm going to go look into that right now -- thanks jon!

Iirc, NPR of all places was streaming it recently.

So the new Agalloch album is killing me right now. No surprise there.

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

Ever so slightly envious here.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

Listened to a few tracks from the new Atheist today. Almost all of the McLaughlin-esque jazz-fusion side of them is gone; it's a much harder, heavier brand of tech-death they're playing now, which is probably why they chose to work with Jason Suecof. I'm not at all sure I like it, at least not yet.

Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Tuesday, 28 September 2010 20:55 (fifteen years ago)

That defeats the whole purpose in my opinion. If I'm going to listen to Atheist I want jazz-fusion-death, not dime-a-dozen Suecof tech-death.

I've since moved on to the new Salome album. It's alright. My indifference is probably due to my mood, I want to keep listening to Agalloch. But they mix it up decently enough, some little EHG touches breaking up the doomy monotony.

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 21:41 (fifteen years ago)

Ohhh new Salome! Do you have the Slough Feg too?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 28 September 2010 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, for a while now, and it's terrific. Scalzi's as commanding a presence as ever.

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

I'm just gonna wait and order them all together with the dawnbringer and mans gin cds. Will save up.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 28 September 2010 21:57 (fifteen years ago)

You've gotta buy these first, though... amirite?

My buddy Jeff who did the short film "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" is back with another one, kinda a prequel -- "Heavy Metal Picnic."

Hour Of 13 signing to Earache makes them the best band on their roster for... how long a timespan can we get for this? Longer than a decade?

love that s/t hour of 13 record from a couple years back. good for them! (if they get paid.)

original bgm, Wednesday, 29 September 2010 18:19 (fifteen years ago)

It's not precisely metal, but I'm enjoying the newest Unheilig album, Grosse Freiheit. It's like they listened to Vision Thing and muttered "Zis ist nicht GERMAN ENOUGH!"

Kinda guardedly into the new Mael Mordha, too. Thought before that their singer is terrible, but somehow this time I feel like the terribleness is working for them as personality.

But still basically it's Enslaved and BXI destroying all, around here in my head.

glenn mcdonald, Wednesday, 29 September 2010 18:46 (fifteen years ago)

anybody heard the new stargazer on profound lore? it's pretty weird, and pretty awesome, but i haven't seen much mention of it anywhere. only other thing i've heard by them is the split with invocation from 1999, which is also pretty great.

TODAY IS THE DAY - In the Eyes of God (CD/DVD reissue)

I'd never heard of Salt Lake City 80s band Crisis, but their first album (newly re-released on Shadow Kingdom) is EXACTLY the kind of post-NWOBHM I was listening to in the mid-80s. Needless to say I love it.

Yeah, they're a great band overall. You need to go get The Scream that Tore the Sky! Also recommend their caveman alter-ego Cauldron Black Ram, the only pirate metal band worth listening to.

short-haired valium crazies (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 1 October 2010 08:44 (fifteen years ago)

And the new one is really cool, but I feel like the production is a little less clear than the last one. Kinda worried their next album will be their equivalent of Atheist's "Elements," though.

short-haired valium crazies (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 1 October 2010 08:46 (fifteen years ago)

Listened to the new Hail of Bullets on my tram ride to work this morning. I still like them. Easy-listening death metal.

Nate Carson, Friday, 1 October 2010 21:16 (fifteen years ago)

I heard something Adrien & Smithy might like today.
