still corny that the def jam partly kanye-produced record won but what r u gonna do
dude this btw is why you will always be indie rock deej to me whether you listen to indie rock or not. you may not dig the jams but the ideology is u to a T my friend and game recognize game ok. because going out of one's way to try and position one's taste somehow above the fix just because it's kanye-produced is indie-ism at its most pernicious. you know why people voted the fix? because it's a fucking awesome, solid album with great lyrics & performances & rad grooves, and fretting about about whether kanye produced it makes you mr.

except that 'liking the better stuff' is sorta the attitude of 'discerning person' not 'indie rock guys'

id'ing oneself as "discerning" for having an opinion that differs with the popular opinion...jeez, what kinda music to cats who cop this attitude often enjoy...answers on a postcard to indie rock j0hn
xp fair enuf on the wayne tapes remark but you really do have a lot of the indieism about you man, take it from me, I run that block

only whiney would sit around all day complaining about rock critics and then say something like "mixtapes aren't albums because critics don't remember them after 9 months"

the popular opinion ... on ilx, not neccessarily among scarface fans specifically or rap fans in gen?

lol you have to be kidding. name me one rap head besides yourself whose first reaction on hearing the fix mentioned is anything other than "classic album, no questions" instead of something about how it's corny for people to dig it. everybody who's ever loved rap knows this album is all time. only dudes with Heart of Malkmus are gonna get all "sniff sniff, oh no, kanye west, can't have that" about the fix winning a scarface poll. how many mics did it get deej? any critics of note you can name who think it's anything less than classic?

...I mean...if you were, like, saying "here are the tracks that make the diary a much better album" or "here's what the diary has the the fix doesn't" or even, if you gotta insist on goin the overrated/overpraised/how-indie-dudes-talk-all-day route, "here is why the shit that most people agree is kanye in great form on the fix is actually wack, and I will now hip you to why it's wack" instead of "oh, it's kanye...true heads hate on kanye" (when you know and I know that when the fix dropped every head worth his salt considered kanye a true player & there wasn't really anything corny about it) then that'd be cool...but that is not what yr doin...you know?

lol san te
― flaccid house (The Reverend), Saturday, 18 September 2010 22:48 (thirteen years ago) link
its more that kanye is an NY-approved critically respected artist who 'legitimized' scarface to a degree among ppl who had considered him 'ok for the south' before that, thus the 5 mic source award, thus the average ilxor appreciation
its a good record & some ppl -- like yourself -- i would have no problem w/ voting for it w/ well-argued positions. but the reason it won this poll doesnt have anything to do w/ 'convincing arguments' & everything to do w/ the major label def jam record w/ kanye beats getting more attention from a coastally biased rap media + critics deference to such
