dude this btw is why you will always be indie rock deej to me whether you listen to indie rock or not. you may not dig the jams but the ideology is u to a T my friend and game recognize game ok. because going out of one's way to try and position one's taste somehow above the fix just because it's kanye-produced is indie-ism at its most pernicious. you know why people voted the fix? because it's a fucking awesome, solid album with great lyrics & performances & rad grooves, and fretting about about whether kanye produced it makes you mr.

lol you have to be kidding. name me one rap head besides yourself whose first reaction on hearing the fix mentioned is anything other than "classic album, no questions" instead of something about how it's corny for people to dig it. everybody who's ever loved rap knows this album is all time. only dudes with Heart of Malkmus are gonna get all "sniff sniff, oh no, kanye west, can't have that" about the fix winning a scarface poll. how many mics did it get deej? any critics of note you can name who think it's anything less than classic?

yeah totally. obviously there's a high baseline of quality for pretty much all of his albums, but i think conventional wisdom about their relative quality could really stand to be reevaluated. The World Is Yours and The Untouchable are probably my favorites, Last of a Dying Breed totally doesn't deserve to be forgotten like it has, and The Diary kinda leaves me cold.

About the Book
From Geto Boys legend and renowned storyteller Scarface, comes a passionate memoir about how hip-hop changed the life of a kid from the south side of Houston, and how he rose to the top-and ushered in a new generation of rap dominance. Scarface is the celebrated rapper whose hits include "On My Block," "Mind Playing Tricks on Me" and "Damn It Feels Good to be a Gangsta" (made famous in the cult film Office Space). The former president of Def Jam South, he's collaborated with everyone from Kanye West, Ice Cube and Nas, and had many solo hits such as "Guess Who's Back" feat. Jay-Z and "Smile" feat. Tupac. But before that, he was a kid from Houston in love with rock-and-roll, listening to AC/DC and KISS.
In Diary of a Madman, Scarface shares how his world changed when he heard Run DMC for the first time; how he dropped out of school in the ninth grade and started selling crack; and how he began rapping as the new form of music made its way out of New York and across the country. It is the account of his rise to the heights of the rap world, as well as his battles with his own demons and depression. Passionately exploring and explaining the roots and influences of rap culture, Diary of a Madman is the story of hip-hop-the music, the business, the streets, and life on the south side Houston, Texas.
