everything i've heard by hammers of misfortune—the two (three?) mentioned above and "the bastard"—are all good. i think i like "bastard" best.

i think i need a chart to keep all the members of hammers and slough feg (and ludicra) straight.

mte, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 15:38 (fifteen years ago)

Everything by Hammers is top notch, but man those Scalzi albums are something special. Can't go wrong with any of those.

A. Begrand, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:22 (fifteen years ago)

A little birdy told me that the Unholy Cadaver record (pre-Hammers) is being reissued on Shadow Kingdom...

Nate Carson, Thursday, 16 September 2010 04:02 (fifteen years ago)

Cool...

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 16 September 2010 12:53 (fifteen years ago)

shadow kingdom is the best best best label even though some of their stuff is like "ok, wow, are you really gonna sell more than 5 of those" but they are the best

aerosmith: live at gunpoint (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Thursday, 16 September 2010 13:04 (fifteen years ago)

I'd buy some Shadow Kingdom stuff but I'm too busy listening to the Beatles.

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14612-songs-for-singles/

haven't read it yet, but here's Breihan's review of the new Torche

markers, Thursday, 16 September 2010 15:30 (fifteen years ago)

The Miami trio sits near the top of the underground-metal heap, but they're also the rare underground-metal band happy to come off as regular dudes rather than medieval warriors or swamp monsters.

ugh son

being a ringmaster's crul (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:01 (fifteen years ago)

The rest of the review seemed fine but what a dumb statement, really

being a ringmaster's crul (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:02 (fifteen years ago)

yeah breihan should know better

call all destroyer, Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:04 (fifteen years ago)

obviously writing for his readers

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

Big announcement coming tomorrow. Very excited. :)

Nate Carson, Thursday, 16 September 2010 19:30 (fifteen years ago)

the rolling metal thread is splitting up? will there be a farewell tour?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 16 September 2010 19:34 (fifteen years ago)

Say your goodbyes now.

Nate Carson, Thursday, 16 September 2010 19:36 (fifteen years ago)

where will sockpuppets go now. Do they go to sockpuppet heaven?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 16 September 2010 19:42 (fifteen years ago)

I ordered a demo tape by Dispirit http://www.dispirit.org/ You can hear samples there.

Founding member John Gossard has also been a member of Weakling, The Gault, and Asunder.

So I think his new BM project will interest most of you.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 16 September 2010 19:49 (fifteen years ago)

Dispirit is reportedly amazing. I have them confirmed to play a show in December that I'm also not allowed to announce til early next week.

Lots of announcements coming in the next few days! :)

Nate Carson, Thursday, 16 September 2010 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

I knew you would know them. I've got mp3s of the demo tape and it's every bit as good as you would hope.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 16 September 2010 19:53 (fifteen years ago)

whoa, I have to check this out. weakling and asunder were both pretty great.

original bgm, Thursday, 16 September 2010 20:12 (fifteen years ago)

I have the gault lp too, its great.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 16 September 2010 20:26 (fifteen years ago)

never heard of that act. another one for the memory banks!

original bgm, Thursday, 16 September 2010 20:56 (fifteen years ago)

The Gault was gothic metal at its best. Swans fans take note!

Nate Carson, Thursday, 16 September 2010 22:12 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't mentioned Dispirit much because Gossard wants the band to make a name on its own (without alluding to his previous projects). It's sort of an impossible mission though.

Ultra psyched to see them live!

Nate Carson, Thursday, 16 September 2010 22:13 (fifteen years ago)

so aquarius records acidentally sent my two copies of njiqahdda - "yrg alms." i notified them of the error and offered to send one back, but they told me to just pass it along to someone who might like it. rolling metal, i offer it to you.

njiqahdda are a couple guys from illinois who play a spiritual, k.i.p. mix of black metal and post-rock. they also sing in a language that they made up. it's not the most amazing stuff ever, but i dig it. post here and ilxmail me if interested and i'll gladly ship it to you!

call all destroyer, Saturday, 18 September 2010 02:24 (fifteen years ago)

Sounds intriguing for sure. I trust aQ's taste in stuff they pimp, for sure.

Why am I typing like that? I'm exhausted.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Saturday, 18 September 2010 04:41 (fifteen years ago)

That sounds pretty interesting. How's their made up language? Sigur Ros? Cocteau Twins?

Duran (Doran), Saturday, 18 September 2010 08:21 (fifteen years ago)

according to them, their made up language is a mix of germanic and scandanavian languages, greek, arabic, and english. there is an entire lyrics sheet in the made up language, so they have obv put some effort into this.

anyways, first person to ilxmail me a shipping address gets it. no shipping cost or anything.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 18 September 2010 14:13 (fifteen years ago)

Love Njiqahdda. Several EPs behind (they're uber-prolific), but loved everything I've heard so far. Good to see them getting a mention here.

Wandering Boy Poet, Monday, 20 September 2010 12:23 (fifteen years ago)

Haven't seen any mention of this on ILM, but it's fucking awesome.

That's the UK Sacrilege - Reaping The Demo(n)s - 2 discs of demos and live stuff from 84-87 - really excellent crusty thrash metal with female vocals.

a fucking stove just fell on my foot. (Colonel Poo), Monday, 20 September 2010 13:31 (fifteen years ago)

super lame that the Kylesa isn't coming out for another month

I'm just Grinderman, y'all never mind me (markers), Monday, 20 September 2010 15:56 (fifteen years ago)

EZ Snappin, Monday, 20 September 2010 16:24 (fifteen years ago)

I'm just Grinderman, y'all never mind me (markers), Monday, 20 September 2010 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

Nate is the drummer for Gay Dad Witch Mountain.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 20 September 2010 21:34 (fifteen years ago)

I'm just Grinderman, y'all never mind me (markers), Monday, 20 September 2010 21:35 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks guys. We are flabbergasted to be in such good company. 13 years we've been waiting for an opportunity like this.

It's funny that we're between Saviours (who played right before us at last year's Fall Into Darkness fest) and Isis (who we played main support to on the Celestial tour). It's like metal history is cyclical or something.

Nate Carson, Monday, 20 September 2010 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

the heaviest bands in existence! congrats dude.

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Monday, 20 September 2010 22:05 (fifteen years ago)

right on, nate!

original bgm, Monday, 20 September 2010 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

It's like you're the tasty iron filling in a heavy metal sandwich. Congrats!

Duran (Doran), Monday, 20 September 2010 22:21 (fifteen years ago)

Wow, that's pretty damn heavy.

sounds like Dream Theater (J3ff T.), Monday, 20 September 2010 23:06 (fifteen years ago)

Congratulations Nate! And the song sounds great.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 01:27 (fifteen years ago)

New Torche is good and I'm currently enjoying new Envy!

btw since there's chat on ILE about an I Love Football board, anyone for or against an I Love Metal? (not im not for or against it, just wondering what everyone thinks)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 21 September 2010 01:33 (fifteen years ago)

against--no reason to break up ilm
